I’m really late getting today’s review up but this book is definitely worth it!
*****
They meet on a beach. . . .Β Abby Davis isnβt wearing a skimpy bikini or sipping umbrella drinks, not when sheβs busy chasing around four little ones. And Matt McKinney isnβt looking for funβheβs a Navy SEAL, a grown man with a long list of missions . . . and fallen brothers.
They only have a week. . . .Β Abby has brought her children to this beach to start over, to give them the enjoyable memories they deserve. Mattβs been sidelined by a combat injury, and haunted by the best friend he lost and the promise he made: to remain a SEALβfocused and dedicated. This leaves no time for what heβs always wanted: a family.
But a week is all it takes. . . .Β Matt opens her heart while Abby soothes his soul. And though they plan to say good-bye when the week is over, something magical happens on that beach, something neither can forget. Something utterly, completely worth falling for.
Worth the FallΒ is theΒ kickoff to Connorβs βThe McKinney Brothersβ series and it is a captivating start.
Matt is dealing with quite a bit of guilt over his best friendβs death, even years later, and heβs starting to question where his life is going.Β Β Like all military heroes, heβs strong, dedicated and hard-working.Β Β Heβs also charming and funny and very, very sexy.Β Β Heβs great with kids, smart as a whip, and is wonderful for Abbyβs self-esteem.Β Β In other words, the perfect Navy SEAL romantic lead.
Abby is widowed with four kids and another on the way.Β Β Her childhood was spent revolving thru foster homes and her marriage did very little to give her the feeling of being loved.Β Β A week with too-good-to-be-true Matt finds her more attracted than she wants.Β Β And when things continue after their week is over, Abby struggles very hard to not continue to run from what could be a great thing.
Iβm not sure that Abby ever really lets go of her fears that sheβs not good enough and will be left.Β Β But I found the ending to be extremely touching and my heart squeezed a little at how they get to their HEA.Β Β Her kids are adorable and Matt connects with them just as much as with Abby.Β Β Heβs got a whole herd of siblings and itβs going to be interesting to see more of them in future stories.
A touching story about two people dealing with regret and fear,Β Worth the FallΒ is a moving tale of learning to let go and embrace the good things that the future can hold.
