She fell for the nice guy, but will she fall for the real guy?
Ex-ballerina Ellie Bell has twenty-four days left until her self-imposed man-less year is up. No more falling for the wrong kind of guyβcharming, sexy, bad. Why canβt she find someone sweet like Charlie Johansson, her soldier pen pal? His e-mails meant the world to her, and she canβt stop thinking about himβ¦until she meets Hunter, whose muscles and cocky smile threaten to have her relapsing.
Before Charlie βBig Game Hunterβ Johanssonβs last tour of duty, heβd gone through women like crazy. But after connecting on a real, emotional level via letters with his best friendβs sister, Charlieβs ready for a relationshipβwith Ellie Bell.
But then her brother introduces him as Hunter. Proving heβs no longer a player by becoming Ellieβs dance partner for an Army benefit seems like it could convince both siblings heβs changed, but the harder he falls for Ellie, the harder it is to come clean. Can he convince her to fall for the real him before itβs too late?

Excerpt:
If he wasnβt so frustrated, he would really enjoy being close to her like this. He should be enjoying himself, for hellβs sake.
βThe music is throwing me off,β he complained, stepping back in frustration.
βThere has to be music,β Ellie said. βThatβs one hard-and-fast rule.β
βWho is this singer? His voice is bugging the crap out of me. I canβt hear myself think.β
βItβs Michael BublΓ©. And youβre projecting blame.β She folded her arms. βDonβt blame BublΓ©.β
βI sure as hell blame BublΓ©. Elvis would be better.β
Ellie lifted her eyebrows. βYou like Elvis?β
Charlie shrugged. βHeβs the king.β
βSorry, I donβt have any Elvis on my phone, so BublΓ© has to do.β
βBublΓ©,β Charlie muttered, pronouncing the word like it was profanity fit for a drill sergeant. βI can step, I guess, but I canβt feel when I should. Does that make sense? How do we do it so our bodies move together?β
She didnβt reply, but was kind of staring at him. Then he realized what heβd said.
Dammit, he was throwing out Hunter lines without even meaning to.
βCome here, letβs try something.β Ellie took his hand and moved them into starting position, the only move heβd halfway mastered. βRest your forehead against mine.β
Charlie lifted his eyebrows and looked at her staring up at him. He didnβt know what this had to do with learning a damn box step, but he wasnβt about to complain. He didnβt have to stoop very much; Ellie was nice and tall.
When their foreheads touched, he couldnβt help taking in a long, deep breath, smelling her shampoo, her skin. He shut his eyes and inhaled.
βClose your eyes,β Ellie said in a quiet voice.
βI am.β
βListen to the music.β
βBublΓ©,β he muttered.
He felt Ellieβs body vibrate in a silent giggle.
βIβm going to start,β she said. βIβll move you backward using only pressure from my forehead. Just feel it.β
Charlie nodded an inch. A moment later, he felt Ellieβs weight shift forward ever so slightly. His bodyβs natural response was to move forward to meet hers, but he knew that wasnβt the intention, so he swayed back on his left foot.
Ellie followed forward. Then he felt her shift to the side. Again he followed. Then forward. Side again. Back.
βYouβre doing it,β she whispered.
βQuiet, woman, youβll throw me off.β He readjusted his grip on her hand, his forehead still pressed to hers, breathing her in, being guided. Forward-slide-together, back-slide-together.
He didnβt have to repeat it in his mind anymore, he was simply moving with her. And he suddenly realized he was doing the leading, guiding her back and to the side with only the slightest shift of weight.
He was leading them, and she was following. His fingers slid from her waist and splayed across her lower back, pulling her closer. He rearranged their grip, easing her hand to rest against his chest. At some point, her other hand had moved from his shoulder to behind his neck. It was a little bit of paradise, feeling her breath on his face, though he was barely breathing himself.
With eyes closed, his other senses were full of her. Her silky skin, the whisper of her breath, the memory of her laughter and face behind his closed eyes. He ran his fingers down her spine, then up her arms, their foreheads still together. He felt his heart pounding under her hand pressed to his chest.
βEllie,β he whispered, heat flooding his body.
She didnβt speak, but he heard her breathing hitch. He moved his hands to the sides of her long neck, touching the softness of her skin, her pulse racing with his. Every breath he took pushed the ache in his chest further down to the pit of his stomach. Part of his brain realized their feet were no longer moving, but the rest of his brain went blank when her fingers slid up the back of his hair. He dipped his head and pressed his cheek to hers, easing her in until her chin rested against his shoulder.

Once she was fully educated, she decided to settle in Florida, but her car broke down in Texas and she’s lived in Dallas ever since. A cupcake and treadmill aficionado (obviously those things are connected), she spends her time watching arthouse movies and impossibly trashy TV, while living vicariously through the characters in the books she writes.
