Review:
This one isn’t technically a romance, although there is a HEA at the end.Β Instead readers get more of a journey piece as Hazel, with the help of her absolutely adorable troublemaking dog & a handful of good friends, picks herself up and makes herself over into a woman that she can be proud of.
I didn’t think I was going to like Hazel much at the very beginning.Β She’s a little too old not to have figured things out and even though she’d recently had a bit of bad luck she really hadn’t done much over the last decade or so to even attempt at adulting.Β But I got over it pretty quickly as she showed that at her heart she was a person that was lost and needing someone to help her want to grow up.Β Thankfully Atticus came at the right time, bringing the right people and the right motivation into her life.
While Atticus’s antics bring a good bit of humor to the story, it’s the small family that he helps Hazel create that really touches the heart.Β While blood doesn’t bond them, love and understanding cements their relationship into a motley crew that is going to be there in the good times and the bad.
Atticus is an emotion filled book about love and loss and growth.Β Full of ups & downs, tears & laughter, and all sorts of things that will make your heart sing.Β Grab your box of tissues, glass of wine, and get ready to fall in love with a furry goofball and those he calls his.
