Practice Proposal

Liza Sutherland had a huge crush on Cole Collins when they were teenagers.ย ย Now heโ€™s a professional baseball player and, thanks to her mother, Liza has won a date with him from a charity auction.ย ย When his agent offers her $500,000 for charity to date Cole, but not fall for him, she reluctantly takes the deal.ย ย After all, sheโ€™s still grieving for her fiancรฉ, who died in the line of duty as a Secret Service agent, and sheโ€™s definitely not looking to get involved with a womanizer like Cole.ย ย Up for a new contract, Coleโ€™s reputation has taken a bit of a beating with the Nationalโ€™s front office.ย ย His late nights and wild parties donโ€™t set well with the family oriented ball club. ย Then his agent suggests using the date with Liza as the chance to improve his rep with a fake relationship with a good girl.ย ย But Cole didnโ€™t plan on Liza being so attractive. ย As they spend time together, their feelings start to deepen and they might get more than they bargained for.

I love a good sports romance.ย ย There is just something so appealing about a hottie on the ball field or the race track or the ice โ€ฆ heck, anywhere that heโ€™s buff and sweaty.ย ย The Practice Proposalย lives up to my expectations.ย ย Cole is hunky but heโ€™s also troubled and sweet and amusing.ย ย His steadily developing relationship with Liza is fun to watch and, although you know their secrets will come out at the end, they are handled well and are not as big a deal as they could have been. ย Although I got a little confused by some of the timing, as it isnโ€™t really that clear on how many, or even if, days pass. ย And there are some issues with Coleโ€™s father where the resolution isnโ€™t fully explained. ย But most of the book is spent, satisfyingly, on Cole and Liza getting to know each other again and learning to love.ย ย Well, and some fun baseball thrown in to keep things hopping.

The Practice Proposalย is a delightful way to get into the baseball spirit, with a little love, a little humor and a lot of fun.

Megan Frampton brings readers an โ€œemotional and powerfully erotic tale of love and redemption.โ€ ย Vicarโ€™s daughter Mary Smith finds herself drugged, abused and for sale in a dingy pub, thanks to her vile half-brother. ย Alasdair Thornham, Lord Datchworth, is slowly killing himself with alcohol and drugs.ย ย Addicted to opium to dull his memories of the war, and his guilt, he manages to rouse himself enough to come to Maryโ€™s rescue.ย ย Thrown together, on their way to Scotland to get married, and running from not only her half-brother but his cousin (who is trying to have Alasdair committed so he can inherit his title), Mary starts to see the tortured man beneath Alasdairโ€™s handsome faรงade.ย ย And in return for saving her, she plans to help him save himself.ย ย Can Mary prove to Alasdair that life is worth living again?

Hero of My Heartย is a raw and sensuous story.ย ย I enjoyed it immensely, although I think that Alasdairโ€™s opium addiction was resolved a little too quickly. ย After meeting Mary, he replaces his addiction for the drug with an addiction to her, realizing that he doesnโ€™t crave the drugโ€™s oblivion when heโ€™s with her.ย ย But, while it fits nicely with the flow of the story, I would have liked to have seen more withdrawal problems from him.ย ย More importantly, Iโ€™m not sure that the issues which caused his emotional need for drugs were fully resolved.ย ย It worked when I didnโ€™t over-think the drug addiction part of the story and just accepted that he has addictive behaviors that are switched from opium to Mary, which is one of the main issues she has with their relationship. ย At its heart, it is just a story of two strangers falling in love who have a range of obstacles to overcome.

That being said, the book was very entertaining.ย ย The characters were delightful and I enjoyed the sparring between the two.ย ย Their flight to Scotland and back to London, running from both his family and hers, was a thrill ride.ย ย And quite a fiery and passionate one, too.ย ย Their love affair gave off enough heat to almost sizzle the pages, so keep that glass of chilled wine handy.ย ย As is typical, they misunderstood things said and/or done by the other, which caused some assumptions to be made that were incorrect. ย But they had just met and there was a lot stacked against them โ€“ his addiction, the difference in their stations, why they had to get married, and their beliefs about themselves and each other โ€“ which colored their relationship from the beginning.

Iโ€™m still trying to decide how I feel about how it was all resolved.ย ย On one hand the ending seemed to be too fast, like there should have been more involved in their getting to their HEA, but on the other it flowed well with the rest of their relationship and the characters as they had been portrayed.ย ย Iโ€™m still on the fence.ย ย But it is definitely worth the time, so give it a chance and let me know what you think.

Hallie Bennett, shoe shop girl, gets an offer on Valentineโ€™s Day that is pretty much too good to pass up โ€“ for $10,000 sheโ€™ll pretend to be the wife of oh-so-sexy Nick Cooper on a business trip to China.ย ย She needs the money to finish her art degree โ€ฆ and he is quite yummy, so with a few ground rules limiting how โ€œpretendโ€ this marriage really is, what could go wrong?

The Trouble with Valentineโ€™sย is an absolute treat.ย ย Hallie is funny, charming and upbeat โ€“ a passionate, fiery redhead who fairly sparkles with life.ย ย Nick is handsome, witty, and engaging.ย ย Heโ€™s a good match for Hallie and their interactions made me alternately laugh and sigh.ย ย Hunter does a fantastic job of making their flirtations full of heat, heart and humor โ€“ keeping readers on their toes and coming back for more.

Thereโ€™s also a secondary relationship with the daughter of Nickโ€™s business partner, Jasmine, and her bodyguard, Kai.ย ย There are a lot of nuances to their history that makes a romance between them complicated, but they are so compelling that you quickly find yourself rooting for their happy ending.

The art and culture of China is so deftly brought into the story that it is a supporting character all on its own โ€“ full of vibrancy and life, adding depth to an already enchanting story.ย ย Readers are also given glimpses of Hallieโ€™s four brothers, tantalizing tidbits that make me hope that we will see them in future stories.

Hunter weaves two emotion-packed stories into a delicious, not-to-be-missed treasure.ย ย The Trouble with Valentineโ€™sย is full of humorous dialogue, irresistible characters, and heartwarming romances, which all combine to make one engaging story.ย ย Once you pick it up, youโ€™ll find it hard to put it down.

Craving Her Soldier’s Touch

A little over a year ago, nurse Jaci Piermont took a chance and became intimately involved with her friend, Staff Sergeant Ian Eddelton. . . only to have him run away, heading back to war.ย ย Now heโ€™s come home, wounded both physically and mentally, and just as sexy and irresistible.ย ย When Ian volunteers to help Jaci make calls to help low income patients in the aftermath of a tropical storm, she canโ€™t say no.ย ย But neither of them counted on the emotions that being together again would stir up.

I really enjoyedย Craving Her Soldierโ€™s Touchย because it has so much emotion and depth.ย ย Jaci comes from an abusive background and now spends her time helping those less fortunate.ย ย She spends some of her time as a traveling nurse and the rest running a shelter for abused women and their children.ย ย Ian has a serious case of PTSD and survivorโ€™s guilt following a bomb that killed four of his friends and left him with a severely damaged leg.ย ย He was lucky not to have it amputated but, being the only one that survived the incident, he doesnโ€™t feel very lucky.ย ย Both have a desire to help people and it almost makes me feel guilty for not doing more.ย ย They are strong but also have some issues that require therapy sessions. ย Jaci has some very definite, and understandable, ideas about her independence and Ianโ€™s ingrained need to protect definitely rubs her the wrong way.ย ย They do a great job of coming to a compromise that works for both.ย ย Ian also agrees to go to therapy to address both his physical problems and his emotional ones.ย ย I always like it when fictional characters admit that they need professional help, that love doesnโ€™t fix everything, and that sometimes their problems are too big to handle alone.ย ย It adds that touch of realism to a book. ย My only complaint is that Jaciโ€™s issues arenโ€™t addressed as completely. ย Sheโ€™s started on the path but I would have liked to see a little more about that. ย There are a couple of other loose ends but this is part of a duet so the rest should be addressed in her sisterโ€™s book,ย Secrets of a Shy Socialite. Overall, though, I was very satisfied by the way everything was handled.

Inย Craving Her Soldierโ€™s Touch, Wendy S. Marcus delivers a hard-hitting, heart-warming, sexy story about two people coming to terms with guilt over past actions and learning how to go forward together.

A Most Scandalous Proposal

Miss Julia St Claire wants nothing to do with love or marriage, especially after watching her older sister, Sophia, pine for a man who hardly realizes sheโ€™s alive. But her parents have other plans and agree to a proposal from the newly named Earl of Clivesdon โ€ฆ. The very man her sister has loved for years. Benedict Revelstoke has been Juliaโ€™s best friend since childhood. When he realizes Clivesdonโ€™s plan, he tries to save her. Only to realize that his feelings may be more involved than mere friendship.

A Most Scandalous Propsal is Ashlyn Macnamaraโ€™s romance debut and it is a historical treat. Not only do we get Julia and Benedictโ€™s story but Sophia also has her happy ever after in the book. All of the characters are well developed and engaging. They have a lot of depth and emotion to them and readers will find themselves quickly drawn into their trials. Because it tells two interwoven stories, the book is a very emotion packed and fast read.

Julia has a certain, understandable, concern with matters of the heart. She has not seen very many positive examples of relationships built on love and it isnโ€™t exactly a common occurrence with Ton marriages. Itโ€™s also very easy to understand why Sophia lets herself get caught up in her feelings for Clivesdon. And the relationship that she develops with a man that has been in a similar situation is delightful. Overall, this was an extremely captivating story about two women re-evaluating their views on love and finding where their hearts truly lie.

A Most Scandalous Proposal is a not to be missed first book from an author that is sure to quickly become a reader favorite. Macnamara has an eloquence and charm to her writing that will lend to a long lasting, and popular, career.

Hank Cooper is only in Thunder Point because of the death of his friend, Ben.ย ย Heโ€™s there to pay his respects and find out what memento his old army buddy left him in his will. ย But the little something he was expecting turns out to be hundreds of acres of prime beach front property.ย ย Thunder Point is full of small town appeal and welcoming people but it could prove very lucrative to developers if Cooper sells the land.ย The fate of the town largely resting on him, Cooper decides to take some time to figure out what his friend would want and what the possibilities mean for him.ย ย A nomad by nature, Cooper hasnโ€™t spent a lot of time in any single place since his childhood but as he gets more involved with the town and its people, things could change.

Robyn Carrโ€™s Virgin River series is one of my favorites and I was excited to hear that she was starting a new series.ย ย If youโ€™ve never read one of her books this is the perfect place to start because she gives you practically a clean slate.ย ย There are some references to the Riordans from Virgin River but they are just wink wink moments and donโ€™t really affect this book.ย ย But those who have enjoyed her other books will be pleased to have a new one full of her trademark style of unforgettable characters and intense emotions.

A Carr book is always more than just a romance.ย ย The worlds she create are so powerful that you are convinced you can just get in a car and go for a visit.ย ย The town of Thunder Point is charming, with a cast of engaging characters who take care of each other.ย ย They have their issues but they work together to help where they can.ย ย And Carrโ€™s readers are never given just the story of one person or couple.ย ย Cooper may be the catalyst for our trip to Thunder Point but there are so many people that make up the town and every one of them is a delight.

For old fans who love Robyn Carrโ€™s Virgin River series and new fans who havenโ€™t read one of her bookโ€™s before,ย The Wandererย is a fantastic start of her new Thunder Point series.

What She Wants

What She Wantsย is a fun and unusual take on romances.ย ย This time, we follow three men on their road to romantic happiness.ย ย Jonathan Templerโ€™s fifteen year high school reunion is fast approaching and itโ€™s the perfect opportunity to tell Lissa Castle how he feels.ย ย Jonathan has loved her forever but sheโ€™s never seen him as more than a friend.ย ย Kyle Long has a crush on the gorgeous receptionist at work but sheโ€™s always overlooking him for other guys.ย ย Heโ€™s convinced she just needs to see beyond his short stature to see the great guy he is underneath.ย ย Adam Edwards might be successful in the traditional ways but when he comes home from a business trip to find himself locked out of his house, heโ€™ll need to dig deeper to win back his wife.ย ย Realizing that romance novels are written by women and contain what they are looking for in a man, the poker buddies start reading to figure out what women want.

Roberts brings readers a cute look at the world of romances.ย ย Itโ€™s not too unusual to have books told from both points of view, but it is a nice surprise to have this one told exclusively from the menโ€™s side.ย ย And even better, they arenโ€™t the quintessential hunks that usually populates these books.ย ย Jonathan is a nerdy computer geek who wears glasses and graphic tees.ย ย Kyle is short and also a little geeky.ย ย Adam might be the more traditionally good-looking of the group, however he is definitely lacking as a husband. ย All three need help to see where they need to improve and learn the things that are important to women. ย They have different issues but at the core they are men looking for a mate, someone to make them complete, and it makes for an intriguing read.

What She Wantsย is a captivating and entertaining look at the menโ€™s perspective on finding love.ย ย They learn a lot about whatโ€™s important about themselves, about the women they love and how to be a good partner.

Dating the Devil

PR Assistant Lucy Oโ€™Neill thinks sheโ€™s met the perfect guy โ€ฆ. even if he does like to leave his socks on in bed. ย Lewis Mephisto is sexy, good-looking, and seems to be very into her. ย So what if he occasionally suggests that she does things that she doesnโ€™t agree with โ€“ like stealing her bosses only client and leaving for a different firm or taking money from her rich roommate so she can fly with him to Vegas. ย Overall heโ€™s just about perfect โ€ฆ until she finds out heโ€™s Satan.

Dating the Devilย should be taken in the fun manner in which it is intended. ย Donโ€™t try to poke holes in it, just enjoy the ride. ย Both Lewis and Lucy are fun and interesting, although out of necessity everything is from Lucyโ€™s point of view. ย She does have issues with who he is once she finds out, but amazingly enough it is handled in a very realistic and engaging manner. ย Lewis gives Lucy a logical and moving story about balance in the world to explain his job. ย This is the part where you need to just take it as it is intended. ย It makes sense and his reasoning that people damn themselves, he just gives them the opportunity, works for me.

Let me say it one more time, just have fun withย Dating the Devil. ย It isnโ€™t a serious discussion on right & wrong, good & evil, God & Satan. ย You could substitute his job for any less than desirable, kinda sketchy, one and the theory would be the same โ€“ what can you overlook to be with the one you love? ย If you like a little paranormal in your romance and enjoy stretching the bounds of realism just a little, this is a great pick. ย In the end, itโ€™s a cute, entertaining romance about an everyday woman dating the devil, and should be handled as such.
