cover60634-mediumTHE SEXIEST DRAGON OF THEM ALL

Adopted at birth, Ivy Morales always suspected she was more than human. Still, she keeps the outlandish thought to herself-even though she can’t ignore her powerful dreams of an ancient blood feud . . . or the darkly erotic turn of those hallucinations. Kidnapped in Mexico for her visions, Ivy has only one chance to escape: find the wickedly sexy man in her dreams.

Welsh dragon shifter Ian Madoc doesn’t understand the strange dream connection he shares with an unknown, beautiful woman. Yet after the seductive images turn into pleas for help, Ian rushes off in the middle of the night, hell-bent on rescuing her. But will she turn out to be the soul mate he’s always longed for . . . or the downfall of his entire clan?

For once I’ve actually been reading a series since the beginning … yea me!  This time I think it does make a difference.  Lopez does the best she can to keep you up to date on all of the goings on in the dragon world but it is just so much better when you’ve read Dead Sexy Dragon and Red Hot Dragon.  Luckily for new readers both books come in under 100 pages so it won’t take much to catch up 🙂

The stories up to this point have been HOT and Wicked Dark Dragon is no different.  We got a peek at Mad’s story in Red Hot Dragon and I knew it was going to be a doozy.  With Ivy imprisoned by the Knights and Mad out to rescue her it gets a little suspenseful.  And of course you have to have a climactic ending battle – one that actually has a huge surprise for the dragons.

In between the fighting though Mad and Ivy get to know each other, which is very sweet … even if it is done behind bars.  Together they have the perfect amount of humor and passion that kept me turning pages – there were some great giggle moments but also a lot of sexy ones.

Lopez seemed to deliver more action and danger with this one, which is a lot of fun, but she doesn’t scrimp on the heat and heart.  If you like your paranormal romance with a kick (and sizzle), the Dragon Heat series is a winner.  It’ll keep you on the edge of your seat one minute, fanning yourself the next and laughing out loud when you least expect it.

cover56992-mediumGrand Passion…or epic disaster?

Lord Nevinstoke revels in acting the young wastrel, until his father is killed in a drunken duel. Never one to do anything halfway, Nev throws off his wild ways to shoulder a mountain of responsibility—and debt—vowing to marry a rich girl and act the respectable lord of the manor.

Manufacturing heiress Penelope Brown seems the perfect choice for a wife. She’s pretty, proper, and looking for a husband.

Determined to rise above her common birth, Penelope prides herself on her impeccable behavior and good sense. Grand Passion? Vulgar and melodramatic. Yes, agreeing to marry Nev was a rare moment of impulse, yet she’s sure they can build a good marriage based on companionship and mutual esteem.

But when they arrive at the manor, they’re overwhelmed with half-starved tenants, a menacing neighbor, and the family propensity for scandal. As the situation deteriorates, the newlyweds have nowhere to turn but to each other. To Penelope’s surprise, she begins to fervently hope that her first taste of Grand Passion in her husband’s arms won’t be her last.

First published by Dorchester in March 2010.

Warning: Contains kisses in the breakfast room, account books in the bedroom…and murder in the garden. Featuring a heroine who’s used to settling, a hero who’s used to getting what he wants without trying, and a love for which they’ll both have to fight tooth and nail.

In For a Penny is an absolutely delightful romance about two engaging people who find themselves tied together in a marriage of convenience.  Fortunately they are both likable and have good hearts, which of course quickly leads to them dealing with sticky emotions like love and affection.

Nev finds himself in over his head when his dad dies, but he has good intentions and a lot of integrity.  He may not be the most savvy in matters of money but he’s good with people and wants the best for everyone.  Luckily he has Penelope to help him.  Both of them bungle their way thru situations that neither are really prepared for but with the support of each other they manage to figure things out.  Their unorthodox courtship and deepening feelings are the center point of the story and it is fantastic.

There’s some suspense toward the end and a little more politics involved that I usually enjoy in my historical romances but Lerner does a fantastic job of fitting everything into the story so it works.  I hate to say it but I’m not very knowledgeable on history so even though I get the basic idea of what is going on it didn’t resonate as well as it might have.  It is described well though so I could easily keep up and understand the impact.

A fantastic read for those who like historical romances – not a lot of society trials but a refreshing look at life (and difficulties) in the country for a land owner.  In In For a Penny, love, laughter & trouble highlight a sweet story of a boy, a girl and their path to a HEA.

Excerpt:

“What else are you good at, besides grilling and throwing a football?”

“Do you want the PG version or X-rated?” He snickered, his dark eyes dancing with mischief as they skimmed over her skimpy robe, making her shiver.

She laughed.

Griff slipped his hand over her free one. “Or should I show you?” His gaze settled on her lips.

She finished chewing and sat back, checking him out again. His muscles were nicely defined, and the sprinkling of dark chest hair tempted her fingers. She ached to touch him, but resisted. He’s a womanizer. He’ll leave you. He’ll hurt you. “Don’t think so.” She removed her hand to cut another piece of meat.

Character Bios:

GRIFF MONTGOMERY – His journey from the tiny town of Adams, Indiana to national fame as a top quarterback, playing for the Connecticut Kings, had been one of hard work and dedication to the game of football. He became a family man when he moved in with his widowed sister to help her raise her two kids.

Totally focused on his career and being a stand-in dad, Griff worked hard. He believed that allowed him to play hard, too, at least when it came to women. A natural athlete, handsome and sexy, he’d been called a man-whore with a girl in every road-trip city. But once his family left for the West Coast, his compartmentalized existence fell apart.

Putting his life back together meant committing to a woman, marriage and kids. But could a “player” become a man-whore no more? He wouldn’t put money on a new beginning happening with a woman who had sworn off marriage for good. But there she was, beautiful and hiding something. He couldn’t ignore her, no matter how hard he tried.

LAUREN FARRADAY – Reeling from a personal tragedy and a recent divorce, Lauren wanted peace above all else. Tending to her ailing father, and trying to make a living as a freelance decorator didn’t leave time or energy for men. Love had kicked her in the teeth, so she wanted no part of it. Not now. Not ever.

Forced, by the court, to let seductive Griff Montgomery into her life, she built a wall around her heart. No way was she going to trust the man with a girl in every port. Despite their chemistry, she tried to keep the quarterback at arm’s length. Fearing heartbreak, she kept her secret hidden. How could she expect him to abandon his relationship deal-breaker for a woman like her?

The Assassin’s Revenge series by Tara Crescent

COVER REVEAL

March 16, 2015

AssassinCovers

I have a mission. Kill the man who kidnapped me. Kill the guards who raped me. I have guns and knives and I’m not afraid to use them. Nothing will stop me.

Then I walk into a bar and I notice him. He is gorgeous.

For four long years, my only response to anything sexual has been revulsion and fear. This time, it feels different.

I could use him. I want to use him. I could sleep with him and make a pleasurable memory as a counterpoint to the painful ones. I’m not a frightened young girl anymore. I’m a trained assassin, capable of killing him with my bare hands. This time, I’ll be in control.

He’s just supposed to be a distraction, this mysterious man in the bar that I have a one-night stand with. But I can’t predict the secrets he is hiding… secrets that are about to intersect my world in painful, unanticipated, and dangerous ways.

~*~ABOUT TARA CRESCENT~*~

Hello, I’m Tara Crescent. I’ve always fantasized about being a mysterious spy, leading a secret double-life, and now, I find that that’s come true!

Sort of.

By day, I’m a mild-mannered corporate drone in Toronto, but by night, I’m limited only by my imagination; I sit, and I type, and I am a daring writer of BDSM, erotica and romance.

In my spare time, I write of course. I also read, garden, travel, cook, and almost never clean. I just started watching Walking Dead on Netflix (zombie erotica, anyone?), and I’m impatiently awaiting the next episode of Doctor Who. (I would kill for a TARDIS.)

I’ve scribbled bits and pieces all my life, chiefly inspired by what I’m reading, which tends to be mainly science-fiction and fantasy, with a healthy sprinkling of romance and erotica thrown in.

I’m a huge believer in happily-ever-after, but tempered by real life, where happily-ever-after is possible, but takes work. My favorite kind of romance stories are ones that are somewhat believable; I like strong men and women who know what they want out of life, and are driven to get it.

I love reader email; I can be reached at taracrescent@gmail.com.

Happy reading and writing!

Book Review – The Spinster Bride

cover57521-mediumMr. Charles Norris needs help finding a wife…

For he has the unfortunate habit of falling for each Season’s loveliest debutante, only to have his heart broken when she weds another. Surely Lady Marjorie Penwhistle can help him. She’s sensible, clever, knows the ton, and must marry a peer, which he is not. Since she’s decidedly out of his reach, Charles is free to enjoy her refreshing honesty and her unexpectedly enticing kisses…

Lady Marjorie Penwhistle doesn’t want a husband…

At least not the titled-but-unbearable suitors her mother is determined she wed. She’d rather stay unmarried and look after her eccentric brother. Still, advising Mr. Norris is a most exciting secret diversion. After all, how hard will it be to match-make someone so forthright, honorable, and downright handsome? It’s not as if she’s in danger of finding Charles all-too-irresistible herself…

I’m going to do something I rarely do – start off my review with a complaint.  The reason I’m putting it first is because I really like Charles and Marjorie and their romance so I just want to get it out of the way.

About three quarters of the way thru the book, a side story is thrown in that seemed a bit of an oddity.  It is a pretty important bit so I’m not giving any details but it kinda came out of nowhere and didn’t really seem to do all that much for the story.  Granted there were a couple of things that happened because of it but if this plotline had been in more of the book I think it would have not only been more enjoyable it would also have done more to progress the main story.  Now, I know that all of this is vague but I kinda have to throw it out there because it shook the flow of the book for me and I think it might do the same for others.  The real shame is that I think it could have made a fantastic secondary plot if it had been developed more.

Now then, with that out of the way I can get to the praise.  I really enjoyed these two together.  They form such a great friendship which develops into so much more.  Together they are fun and sassy and full of life, making a perfect romance that at first seems to be fated to not be but of course you know everything will work out in the end.

From what I can tell, we’re continuing in a world that has already been created – I found When a Lord Needs a Lady on Amazon, which comes out in February, and I know that couple is featured here.  But the nice thing is that other than some references I didn’t fully understand it didn’t really make a difference.

Goodger’s writing is quick and witty, her characters are entertaining and realistic, and the romance is both sweet and sexy.  If you like your romances packed full of lords and ladies, The Spinster Bride is a fantastic choice.  A little ill-fated love and some romantic ingenuity blend perfectly to create a decidedly enjoyable love story.

Viking Warrior. Immortal Slave. Freed by Love.

An original contemporary fairy tale inspired by Norse mythology

Penny pleads for divine intervention from overwork and mountainous debt one desperate, lonely night. She sings songs of praise, chants like a yogi, and rubs her belly like Buddha until the crystal charm on her navel shimmers, hoping to draw the attention of someone up there.

From the place between heaven and earth, in the west beyond the seas, an immortal hears Penny’s cries. Once a fearless Viking warrior, Gunnar has been cast into eternal servitude by an angry god and made a Light Elf. While Penny sleeps, he comes to earth from Alfheim for a single night to complete her tasks. When she awakens and confronts him, the handsome immortal kisses her, sparking a night of forbidden passion. By dawn, the couple has fallen in love.

Dark forces target Penny, seeking revenge for Gunnar’s earthly misdeeds. To protect his mortal lover, Gunnar takes up his sword to defend her. Though his strength and courage are unmatched, it might be the power of Gunnar and Penny’s love that saves them both.

Excerpt:

He smoothed her hair and rubbed a thick tendril between his thumb and forefinger. “I am Gunnar.” He pronounced the name Goo-nar.

An emblem of the sun, surrounded by a circle, had been branded on the back of his powerful hand. Penny touched the scar while he held a length of her hair, recognizing Freyr’s sacred insignia from her textbooks. “The pain must have been excruciating.” Without thinking, she lifted the old wound to her mouth and laid kisses along its perimeter before pressing a kiss to the icon inside.

Tremors vibrated across her lips when they touched the ancient symbol and her body tingled with the contact. The brand grew warm and then hot against her mouth, though it did not burn. She ran her tongue over the thick scars to erase the heat, and then licked the center, finishing with a tiny swirl.

Gunnar’s gasp of surprise was the last thing she expected when she lifted her head. He released her hair and drew away.

“I’m sorry. I don’t know what got into me. Have I offended you?” She’d always been popular with men, and comfortable around them, but her behavior with Gunnar was bold, even for her. She sat up. “Am I under some kind of spell?”

Gunnar shook his head. “I used my powers to heal you, but your free will remains intact.”

She searched his face for clues about what to do next, because desire shone behind the wary expression in his eyes. Something else shone there, too. Gratitude. Penny waited for Gunnar’s reply without letting go of his disfigured hand.

He said, “Kindness isn’t something I’m used to finding. Perhaps you’d be less inclined toward compassion if you knew what I’d done to deserve this brand of servitude.”

She reached out and draped an arm around his neck to bring him closer. Their gazes locked and held. Gunnar’s eyes were like pools of ice blue water that pulled her in and down.

Her breathing slowed while the sound of her heartbeat rushed blood through her ears. “I am Penelope. And if you’re from Alfheim, I know who and what you are. I just don’t understand why you’re here.” How could she deserve his rare, benevolent gifts? She was just an ordinary woman from an ordinary town, barely scraping by.

His warm breath grazed her cheek in shallow rushes, lifting goose bumps across her skin. His wide, firm mouth smelled of sweet ground parsley and fresh-picked mint. “Sometimes we get what we need, simply because we ask. That’s the beauty and power of the unexpected.”

Guest Post – The Captain’s Bluestocking Mistress

Tags

, , ,

A few days ago you might have checked out my review for Erica Ridley’s newest (link below), so I’m thrilled that she stopped by today to answer a few questions.

*****

What do you like the most (and least) about writing romances?

I love writing romance because it gives me the freedom to put complex characters in impossible situations and help them find love anyway. The hardest part about writing regency romances in particular is the constraints of historical accuracy. I research what they’re wearing, what they’re eating, what’s happening in the world during the dates of the story, money, travel, legalities, and whether the words I use existed in the time period. It’s impossible to catch everything, but I spend hours poring over every page. Attention to detail is simultaneously the best and worst thing about writing historical romance.

What is your favorite romantic story?

I’m not sure I can pick a single book, but I can pick an author. Some of the first historical romances I ever owned were written by Julie Garwood, and I bet I read every one of them at least six times. The heroes were strong, determined, and very alpha, and the heroines were just as strong and determined, and never failed to drive the heroes batty until they ended up in love. I really enjoy stories with humor.

If you could be any romantic character, who would it be and why?

It may not strictly be a romance, but I loved the hero in Anne Rice’s The Mummy: Ramses the Damned. Ramses was an Egyptian pharaoh cursed with immortality, entombed, and forgotten… until he awoke in the heroine’s parlor in Edwardian London. So I guess my answer is that I want to be Julie, so I could spend some serious quality time with that fascinating hero.

Which of your characters/books was the most fun to write?

Oh, man. That’s a hard call. I had an absolute blast writing Amelia and Benedict in The Viscount’s Christmas Temptation. Their banter was fast-paced and fun throughout the whole book. In The Captain’s Bluestocking Mistress, the eponymous captain is more the strong, silent sort, but Jane–the heroine–is an absolute riot. I loved her from the moment she walked onstage in The Earl’s Defiant Wallflower. Getting my strong, angsty army captain snowbound with spinster Jane and her demon cat serves up plenty of wacky fun!

If you weren’t a writer and could be anything you want, what would it be?

I love to travel, and I love languages, so my non-writer dream job would be traveling the world, learning and teaching other languages. I have a friend who was born in Italy, studied in Spain, then moved to the United States, and now teaches French. My kind of lady! I would happily be a fry cook, if it included travel around the globe. 😉

Dukes of War series

by Erica Ridley

Blurb:

Enjoy the witty, emotional second book in USA Today bestselling author Erica Ridley’s new Dukes of War regency romance series!

Captain Xavier Grey’s body is back amongst the beau monde, but his mind cannot break free from the horrors of war. His friends try to help him find peace. He knows he doesn’t deserve it. Just like he doesn’t deserve the attentions of the sultry bluestocking intent on seducing him into bed…

Spinster Jane Downing wants off the shelf and into the arms of a hot-blooded man. Specifically, the dark and dangerous Captain Grey. She may not be destined to be his wife, but nothing will stop her from being his mistress. She could quote classical Greek by the age of four. How hard can it be to learn the language of love?

Excerpt:

In this scene, Captain Grey has rejected Miss Downing’s offer to become his mistress—and her assertion that he is a hero. He doesn’t feel like one, and believes sending her home with her virginity intact will be the first step toward becoming a better man. However, the two are snowbound in his remote cottage for the foreseeable future, and Jane isn’t willing to give up the hope of sparking something between them. She’s been invisible her entire life, and has finally found someone who truly sees her…

Captain Grey glared back at Jane in silence.

She lowered her voice. “War is terrible. I recognize that. But now it’s over. What happens next is up to you.”

He pushed to his feet and piled the dishes and silverware into a stack. “It’s not that simple, and we’re done talking about it.”

She gathered the cups and the teapot and followed him into the kitchen. “Of course it’s not simple. Did you know Major Blackpool was one of only two people who ever bothered to stand up to dance with me at a ball? That moment will literally never happen again. He no longer attends balls at all. He’s missing a leg. From what I understand, he can barely walk and shall never dance again. But his life isn’t over.”

Captain Grey submerged the plates into a bucket of water and pushed it out of her reach. “Who was the other man you danced with?”

“My brother. Why won’t you let me wash the dishes?”

“Scullery work is hard on the skin, and you have pretty hands.” He began to scrub the first plate. “Blackpool is a hero. I am not. You’d do well to remember that. It would be the height of foolishness to trust a man who doesn’t trust himself.”

She shook her head. “Fighting for innocents and defending your country is inherently heroic. I believe in you. Closing yourself off won’t change that. No matter what you do, your heroism will always—”

He grabbed her face with wet hands and closed his mouth over hers with bruising force. No doubt he expected her to swoon, or slap him, or some other such nonsense.

She gripped his arms and held on tight.

His lips were wide and firm. The rough hands cradling her face dripped with water, but all she felt was warm. Desired. He was holding her in place as if he never wanted to let her go. Hope soared within her. She pressed herself even closer and let her eyes flutter closed.

Even through his clothes, the muscles of his arms were tight and firm beneath her ungloved hands. What would it be like to feel them wrapped around her? Would he hold her close with the same desperate passion that had begun this kiss? Or would his embrace be tender, as his lips were now, brushing against hers with gentle insistence?

As he suckled her lower lip, her mouth parted—not in surprise, but in eagerness. Just because it was her first kiss didn’t mean she was ignorant of what pleasures it might bring. She rose on her toes to meet him.

She had researched the matter extensively, and was delighted to discover that he had been right about book knowledge failing to communicate the complete picture. No mere words on parchment could remotely convey the heat and immediacy and… dizziness of having his mouth mold to hers. The heady sensation of need and shared desire.

Being kissed was more than she’d ever imagined. Being kissed by him was more than she’d ever dreamed.

Her fingers trembled—her entire body trembled—and she clutched his neck with abandon. She could no longer stand. She couldn’t feel her legs, her knees, anything except her mouth on his and their bodies cleaving together. The rest of the world melted away. It was as if she’d been waiting for this moment, this man, all of her life.

She licked at his lower lip and thrilled when a raw groan escaped his throat. Her heart hammered against her ribs, pushing her bosom against his chest with every staccato beat. All she could think was that she never wanted their kiss to end. This was heaven.

His tongue met hers and a delicious shiver shot down her spine, electrifying her skin. He tasted of tea, but also of a spice she could not define. He tasted of virile man, she supposed. Of Captain Xavier Grey. Everything about him was strong and sure and masculine and completely irresistible. She wanted to be his. She wanted him to be hers.

Her knees weakened. He felt like home and danger and hope all wrapped into one. Her breath escaped in tiny bursts when she remembered to breathe at all. He didn’t just make her feel desirable. He proved with every consuming kiss, with the thundering of his own heart against hers, that his desire for her was powerful enough to devour them both.

She was already lost.

He pulled away, gasping, and ran a shaking hand through his hair.

It was all she could do not to sway right back into his embrace.

“Was that heroic?” he rasped. “Or was it a selfish man doing what selfish men do?”

She gazed back at him in wonder. Her lips were tender from his kiss. “It was beautiful.”

“It was foolish.” He turned back to the bucket and reached for the next dirty saucer. “It shan’t be repeated.”

Excerpts:

Ward Sisters - Book 1 Cover - Back To DecemberBack to December

Emily looked at Rob and couldn’t read what he was thinking. She could tell there was something on his mind, but she had no clue what it was.

“Care to share?” she asked, curious.

“Can I kiss you?” he replied, his voice steady.

Em was stunned. She didn’t know what to say. It had been over five years since she had been asked to be kissed. She nodded slowly, so as not to appear too eager, though she was, in fact, dying to kiss him. She had been looking at his mouth quite a bit these last few hours, and it always seemed so kissable.

Rob leaned toward her, and she met him halfway. That heady forest scent invaded her nostrils more thoroughly now and her brain swam. He looked at her with a sweet smile, just a little grin that said he was looking forward to this. She met his eyes and his smile with one of her own, though she suspected that, as soon as he’d asked, he’d known what her answer would be by the expression on her face.

His lips brushed against hers, gentle at first, with just a little bit of pressure. The gesture implied respect without stifling the desire that raced through Emily’s blood. Her skin heated and the dampness between her thighs, which had been present since dinner, bordered on embarrassing. How could she want someone so much from just a simple kiss?

Ward Sisters - Book 2 Cover - Only OneOnly One

They walked back to the car, hand in hand, in an unusual silence. Jenna started to step around the car to the passenger’s side, and Liam tightened his grip on her hand so she couldn’t let go. Her expression said she was curious as he drew her toward him and leaned against the car hood. She let him guide her until her body was pressed against his and their faces were inches apart.

His heart raced again, which Liam found odd – he hadn’t felt nervous before he kissed a girl since junior high. Swallowing hard, he brushed the hair from her face like he’d done earlier. Her breath hitched, and he knew she wanted him to kiss her as much as he wanted to do it. He looked at her mouth, then into her eyes. They leaned in at the same time, crushing their lips together in a long-overdue kiss.

Heat rushed through his body and his dick hardened before she even slid her tongue into his mouth. As their tongues danced, one hand found her ass and pulled her pelvis to his, while the other threaded into her hair, bringing her mouth closer, and deepening the kiss. She whimpered and gripped his neck.

The kiss lasted a few minutes and then they needed air. They leaned apart, touched foreheads, their breath labored.

“Wow,” Jenna whispered.

“Yeah. I agree,” Liam said.

Meghan stared back at him as intently. Finally, she said, “What’s going on here, Neil?”

“What do you mean?

“This. What’s happening between us? Am I reading you wrong? Are you not interested in me?”

Neil couldn’t let her think that. No. Never. He’d wanted her for too long to let her ever believe he wasn’t interested, even for a moment. He pulled back, stood still and looked at her. He looked at her mouth. He wanted to kiss her, but if he waited until they were alone, she might give up on him. Danny was right, he had to stop sabotaging this.

Neil threaded his hands in her sun-kissed hair. In her eyes, he saw a desire to kiss him as powerful as his own. He leaned in, pressed his lips to hers and a wave of heat washed over him. Meghan leaned into the kiss, opening her lips, and as he slid his tongue into her mouth, Neil had to use every ounce of restraint his military training had afforded him to keep it from getting indecent.

Meghan pulled away and saved Neil from himself.

“Are you okay?” she asked.

He nodded slowly and swallowed.

“Uh huh,” he muttered.

His dilated pupils said he liked what he saw. She grinned. In two strides of his long legs, he was right next to her and it was Annie’s turn to gasp – he towered over her.

He looked at her, shook his head, then he crushed her to his body, his face a breath away. She opened her mouth and his tongue plunged inside. Unlike the other morning, he knew this was her and not Em. Yet, he kissed her with even more passion, stealing her air.

Before she knew what was happening, he lifted her off the ground, wrapped her legs around his waist and carried her to the bed. They collapsed onto the mattress, and when his pelvis pressed into her core, they moaned in unison.

“God, you’re beautiful,” he breathed around her lips.

Review:

(Because this is a box set of four stories, and I’ve only read the first two, I’m going to give my feelings as I read them so they are independent of each other.)

I really enjoyed the first book – Emily and Rob’s story.  It’s an interesting look at the celebrity life and the difficulties that arise when you bring someone in who isn’t used to it.  The characters are interesting (both the main and supporting), with an immediate connection.  But both of them are insecure and when faced with a big issue, neither of them handles it very well.  I got a little frustrated at the two of them but I think the ending was sweet enough to make up for it.  Since all of the stories in the box set are in close proximity, both from a time and character perspective, it will be interesting to see them from other’s perspectives in later stories.

I absolutely LOVED Liam in the first story.  The friendship that he has with Emily is such a great part of her story and I was curious to see what it would take for him to find The One.   Having said that, unfortunately I didn’t like him as much when his story was finished.  Through the majority of his story I just wanted to smack him.  Granted he’s never been in a serious relationship but he’s old enough to know how this works.  One stupid decision after another on his part just frustrated me to no end.  Luckily I did like Jenna, at least through the majority of the story.  I totally see why she thinks the way she does about her relationship with him (see above stupid decisions) but it definitely goes downhill for me once they get together for good.  As much as I was looking forward to seeing Rob and Emily from someone else’s viewpoint, I didn’t enjoy where the story went.  Unless it comes into play in Book 3 or 4, I think we could have done without a lot of the soul-searching that was done.  I’m also not sure how I feel about the storyline going from present to the past & then working its way back to present, alternating between characters.  I can kinda see why, since we’ve seen some of this before with Book 1, but it was awkward at first.  Once I got into it though it flowed a lot better.  And, like with Rob & Emily’s story, the supporting characters help so much to make this a wonderful read.

I’m looking forward to giving Book 3 a shot – the story of Emily’s friend Meghan.  She played just a little role in Emily’s story (and hardly appeared at all in Neil’s) but I’m curious about her.  The little we’ve seen about her is intriguing.  And Book 4 is definitely on my radar – it gives the other side of Emily’s story and I’m curious to see more of what happened from Josh’s perspective.

Excerpt:

Ainsley Simmons chewed on the end of her pencil, her fingers hovering over her laptop, wondering if she had the nerve. Staring at the screen, she tapped her foot nervously on the polished limestone floor. The rapid beat echoed through her sprawling penthouse. Pausing to pick up a business card, she flipped it over like a playing card, thumbing the linen card stock between her fingers.

All too aware that today was Valentine’s Day, the last thing Ainsley wanted to do was spend the evening alone. Not when her friends were being whisked off by their lovers and significant others to exotic locales, all while she sat in her vast Beverly Hills penthouse. Alone. At least Charles hadn’t taken her home from her when he’d cleaned her out and scampered off to Dubai with his newest flame.

Her gaze lingered on the business card and the elegant, embossed print.

Fantasies Inc.
No fantasy will go unfulfilled.

That was all it said. Nothing else.

Her closest friend, Tara, had discreetly handed Ainsley the card at her annual posh cocktail party last weekend. The who’s who of Hollywood had been in attendance that night, not that Ainsley had noticed—she’d been too busy drowning her sorrows in her martini glass. Glasses plural was more like it. No wonder she’d had a wicked hangover the next day. The card didn’t specify the kind of fantasies they specialized in, but Tara had told her. Sexual.

Maybe Tara was right—Fantasies Inc. might just be the perfect diversion from her troubles, if just for one night. Drumming her manicured nail on her desk and scanning the elaborate website, Ainsley was more than intrigued by the promise of a fun-filled rendezvous in the privacy of her own home, with no questions asked.

The company assured anonymity, and even provided a short online questionnaire to assist in the creation of the client’s perfect evening of pleasure.

The list of questions alone thrilled her. Preferred age, race, hair and eye colour, build, sexual preferences, not to mention an impressive list of sexual specialities. Next to each choice there was a ‘surprise me’ option. Ainsley frowned. Not one for surprises, she knew just the type of lover that made her heart beat faster. The type of man she’d never had before. Mid-twenties, fair and muscular. Oh, and yes, one who wasn’t afraid to take control, to make her weak at the knees—at his command.

A flicker of desire wicked through her, right to her core. Deep down in her belly was an insistent need ached to be satisfied, tempted by blissful hours in the arms of her perfect fantasy lover.

Taking a long, slow swig of her champagne, the bubbles catching in her throat, she gathered her courage. Courage to do something rash, almost reckless—that was so unlike her, but then after Charles had left her, she’d been forced to be the new Ainsley. And the night of discreet pleasure might very well be her last five thousand dollars, but hours spent allowing herself—no, more like treating herself—to an evening all about her… Well, that was just what she craved. She’d think of it as a Valentine’s present to herself.

Quickly ticking off a few preferences, she noted the Valentine’s special, an upgrade to a second night of pleasure for a few thousand more. Two nights of mysterious erotic pleasures was just too much for both her body and her bank account to imagine. She’d best stick with one night and see how it went. Gulping down the rest of her champagne, she pressed the send button.

She exhaled as her credit card was approved for the deposit. The rest would be put on her tab and could be settled at the end of the fantasy. Plus gratuity. Oh, how does one tip for that? Her cheeks flushed and her pulse raced with the thought of what she’d just done.
