southern-nights-secrets-teaser-4

Excerpt:

Virginia turned left and headed toward the area that contained the gym equipment, the smell of pool chemicals giving way to the combined aromas of gym mats, sweat, and disinfectant. She pulled the door open to the state-of-the-art facility that was touted as a perk to those recruited to work at this hospital. She nodded to the desk attendant, scanned the well-lit room, and let her ears guide her eyes. Sure enough, Alex had been right. All she had to do was follow the sounds of fists hitting a bag and there he was¾Dr. Beckett Sutherland.

She stood by the edge of the mats, hoping to catch his eye but it wasn’t going to happen. Virginia stooped to remove her heels before stepping on the rubber flooring and making a beeline for him.

He was wholly absorbed in his task, the sounds of his fist impacting violently with the bag and punctuated by grunts of effort expelled on each jab. His longish dark hair hung around his face, wet with the sweat that also ran down his bare torso and disappeared into the waistband of his gym shorts.

Virginia stopped a few feet away and waited for him to notice her, not crazy enough to surprise him within range of his fists. She took the time to continue her catalog of things the past nine years had changed in Beckett Sutherland.  The body, always lean and muscled due to his dedication to all things sports and his inability to sit still, was sharper, more predatory in build and size than she remembered. His face, always handsome, was stronger—a fiercer rendition of his trademark boyish good looks.

The tattoo—a black, red and orange stylized dragon—covered his right side and that half of his back. When she’d asked about it back when they were lovers he’d replied as he thrust into her slowly that his destiny was to be a dragon slayer and that was his reminder. He’d never offered anything more than that cryptic explanation, and she’d never pushed for more. But the nipple bar piercings were new and her breath caught in an almost painful clutch with the impact of just how sexy they were.

He moved quickly, battering the bag with jabs and thrusts that would make any sane person afraid to get in between his fists and the target. Each move was quicksilver, exploding from different angles with each practiced shift of his body. If you blinked you would miss him and that would be a shame because he was gorgeous. Just simply gorgeous.

But she’d been fooled by the beautiful exterior before.

by Robin Covington

Publication Date: July 14, 2015

Genres: Contemporary, Romance

Blurb:

Crown Prince Nicholas Lytton was never supposed to be ruler of Callanos. He was the “spare to the heir,” pursuing a decadent life of the rich and royal – extreme sports, physical pleasures, and glorious irresponsibility. Until his brother died. Now Nick is to be coronated king, and no one believes he’s ready. The best way to secure his crown is to do the unthinkable…find a queen.

While Isabel Reynolds works in the palace gardens, she has no desire to draw the attention of the way-too-flirty, would-be king. For she’s not the woman everyone thinks she is. Even if she wanted – or was tempted by – the promise of love, it would only end in disaster. Because while Isabel may be able to catch a king, her secrets would only destroy him…

Excerpt:

He breathed a sigh of relief when the door closed behind her and turned to find Isabel watching him with an exasperated expression on her face. Nick walked over to her, cupping her face in his hands and kissing her. She resisted at first, stiff against him but he coaxed her response with nips of his teeth, soft swipes of his tongue along the seam of her lips. When she finally gave in an opened to him, it was the sweetest reward he’d ever earned.

“They can take my medals and the cover of the Wheaties box,” he said, pressing a last lingering kiss on the dimple to the right of her full lips. “That was so much better.”

“You’re being charming again,” she teased, her smile bursting through in spite of her obvious attempt to stay disgruntled with him. “Do they teach that in prince pre-school?”

“It’s actually a genetic thing. All of the delivery room nurses were wrapped around my finger.”

“You’re an ass,” she swatted at his chest and started to walk away but he pulled her back against him wrapping his arms around her waist.

“As long as I’m your ass,” he said, switching gears when she stiffened at his words. Isabel was not going to respond well to any attempt on his part to keep her around for any period of time. He’d read the memo but he had hard time agreeing to live by the terms with her. But if he had any chance to keep her here, he needed to play it whole lot cooler. “Temporarily your ass. Is that better?”

She nodded. “Better.”

“My flight leaves in an hour and a half so let’s get this tour underway.”

Isabel followed along, slipping her hand out of his when they left his office. Nick bit back a pang of regret but he knew she was right. The palace had ears, eyes, and the biggest mouth in the Mediterranean.  The private tour would raise eyebrows but doing it hand-in-hand would guarantee him a spot on the front banner of TMZ.

“Will you be gone long? She asked as they entered the public wing of the palace.

“Are you going to miss me?”

“Not if you keep answering my questions with a question.”

“Are you always this grumpy after several orgasms?” She slid eyes wide with shock in his direction and he bit back a laugh. “Because if I have to step up my game, just say the word and I’ll get right on that self-improvement plan.”

She bit back her giggle by biting her lower lip between her teeth and punctuated her disgust with an eye roll.

“You are a ridiculous man.”

“You are absolutely correct…” He put his hand on the doorknobs for the ornate double doors and pushed them open to reveal a room full of glittering gems, crowns, scepters and assorted gem covered items in glass cases all around the room. “…but I hope that having my very own jewelry store might make up for it.”

Isabel gasped, her hands flying up to cover her mouth. He would never forget the look of pure delight on her face, no trace of her troubles and none of the secrets. She took a couple of steps into the room, lowered her hands and cut him a look that made his dick hard and his heart race.

“Can I try some of them on?”

He grinned. “I think that can be arranged.”

Review:

According to Amazon, The Prince’s Runaway Lover is supposed to be almost 200 pages long, but it read like a much shorter story.  I found myself just flying through it, which is a great sign.  The plot is pretty simple and Covington does a great job of keeping things tight.  There isn’t a whole lot of extra things thrown in – besides the romance, we have Nicky’s troubles with adjusting to being the new king and the political issues that brings.  It all makes sense and ties together very well.

Nick is rich, gorgeous, confident and a Prince (now soon-to-be king), which all adds up to a man who gets what he wants when he wants it.  And he wants Isabel … the girl doesn’t stand a chance.  She resists but you know he’s going to win, mostly because she wants him to 🙂  With the death of his brother, he’s a little lost and that lets down his guard so that Isabel also gets to see the very appealing man under the crown.

I’m not sure why Nick is so surprised when everything goes wrong.  He was the one pushing Isabel into getting involved (like the spoiled, sexy man that he is) and she told him all along that she had troubles that she couldn’t talk about.  I did like that it was his mother who helped him get his head on straight and that had to be one of my favorite scenes in the entire book.  Their heart-to-heart was just what was needed and adds something so very sweet to the story.

Book Review, Playing the Part, Robin Covington

9781622667833_p0_v3_s260x420Playing the Part is hot … and I mean HOT, so if you don’t like a LOT of sizzle in your romance then this isn’t the book for you.  But for those that do just sit back, grab a glass of wine and prepare to be charmed.

After the public end to her high profile Hollywood romance, Piper James will do almost anything to keep her publishing deal … even agree to help action star, and well-known playboy, Mick Blackwell act like he’s in love.  Being the lead in the film adaption of Piper’s romance novel is Mick’s chance to do a more serious movie, if only he can figure out how to be convincing.  He wants this role bad enough that he is willing to take advice from Piper, but one look at the gorgeous author has Mick thinking he can teach her a thing or two about love.  Caught in Mick’s seductive draw, Piper agrees to a no strings affair, but on her terms – no publicity, no sleeping over, and it ends when she goes home.  But Mick keeps changing their agreement … and Piper isn’t sure she has the willpower to stop him.

I loved these two.  Piper is very understandably gun-shy with publicity after the destructive end of her previous relationship.  She was hung out to dry in the press and it damaged not only her reputation, but also her self-confidence when her fiancé was caught, by her, sleeping with her former best friend.  Now, feeling sexy again thanks to Mick, she’s willing to have a little fun as long as it stays just between them.  Good luck with that!  Mick is a hot commodity in Hollywood – he’s gorgeous, sexy and just the right touch of bad boy to make everyone, including Piper, drool.  He plays by his own rules but he’s that delicious, seductive combination of confident rebel with just a touch of uncertain little boy.

Now, I’m sure you can imagine just what issues pop up for these two – the press, rumors, their feelings, uncertainty over a future – but Covington does a fantastic job of giving readers a well-developed, fast-moving, enthralling story regardless of the predictability.  With  bold and irresistible characters, a steamy and heartfelt storyline, and vivid writing, Playing the Part is a guaranteed pleasure to heat up a sultry summer night.

"Like everything else in the Rosewood River series, I enjoyed the heck out of this one." Full review at romanticread.com 🔥COVER REVEAL & PRE-ORDER ANNOUNCEMENT🔥 "From their Hallmark Channel worthy meet-cute to Holly finally finding herself, it’s just so sweet." Full review at romanticread.com "So emotional and with characters that captured me from the first page." Full review at romanticread.com "Loved, loved, loved me some Travis" Full review at romanticread.com Coming soon - REBOUND CONTROL by @jodioliverauthor releasing January 9th! "There’s a reason Piper Rayne is on my must read list and it shows from start to finish here. So much of the feels (heartache and sweet moments alike), steaminess, humor, and love from family, both born & found." Full review at romanticread.com "I just loved the two of them together – the way they kind of accidentally slide into a relationship, complete with teenagers, pets, and a fixer-upper house is just priceless." Full review at romanticread.com "While this the first in this series I’ve read (and this author for that matter), I really enjoyed myself ... their courtship and HEA made me happy."
