Excerpt:

No way in hell his body should be so keyed up at eight-thirty in the morning sitting across from Naomi Starr.

Two days after first meeting the woman, Reid swore under his breath and subtly uncrossed his legs, growing uncomfortable. Sitting across from Naomi at her desk in her tidy little office, he took a moment to glance around.

The place fit her. Frames of local businesses accented the slate blue walls of her office. Bold, clean lines in her furniture and in the way the small room seemed to be so much bigger than it actually was indicated a woman who knew how to show her best side. And that was to say nothing of the woman herself.

Naomi sat in a navy jacket and form-fitting skirt that reached her knees. Personally, Reid wouldnโ€™t have minded if sheโ€™d hiked the thing higher, because damn, but she had some nice legs. The understated blouse she wore under the jacket covered her from the neck down while giving tantalizing impressions of the full breasts beneath.

Sadly, Reid had always been a breast and leg man, and Naomi continued to tick off all the boxes on his โ€œideal womanโ€ list.

A knock at the door interrupted them, fortunately before Reid got caught staring.

โ€œSorry,โ€ her assistant apologized. โ€œNaomi, I need your help with something thatโ€™s urgent. It wonโ€™t take long.โ€

Naomi frowned.

โ€œTake care of whatever you need to,โ€ Reid said to her and held up the decadent coffee sheโ€™d offered him. โ€œIโ€™m just going to nurse this for a while.โ€ Because he needed the caffeine. Who the hell voluntarily scheduled appointments before nine if they didnโ€™t have to?

She gave him a tight smile. โ€œIโ€™m sorry about this. Iโ€™ll be right back, and while Iโ€™m gone, take a look at my proposal.โ€ She pushed a blue folder toward him.

He looked through her ideas, agreeing with the direction she intended. Yet his concentration remained on the woman whoโ€™d left, as well as the amazing cup of coffee heโ€™d been given upon arrival.

In his office, when Reid had asked if he could get her something to drink, he would have offered her bottled water or some crap coffee from the tiny refreshment station heโ€™d insisted they add to the office. It was a step up from car dealer coffee but several steps down from Storyville, one of his favorite coffee bars in the city. Naomi could give them a run for their money with her gourmet coffee, served in a fancy ceramic mug. Heโ€™d also noticed the spring water in the hallway in a water cooler she no doubt paid through the nose for.

Probably why her fees were a little on the high side. To him, at least. According to Evan, she had more than reasonable prices for what she offered. Her clients couldnโ€™t say enough about all sheโ€™d done to help their businesses. The woman was a workhorse, no doubt about it. They had that in common. And, if he wasnโ€™t mistaken, a mutual attraction.

Or that could just be wishful thinking.

She returned, appearing as poised and put-together as sheโ€™d been before the interruption. โ€œIโ€™m so sorry for that. A new client panicked about something weโ€™d already agreed upon then wouldnโ€™t speak to anyone but me about it.โ€ Naomi shrugged. โ€œBut itโ€™s no big deal. Now, back to you.โ€

He watched her saunter back to her seat, enjoying the sight. When she sat and faced him, he kept his gaze above her chin at all times.

She nodded to the folder open in front of him. โ€œThis is the proposal Iโ€™ve outlined for you. Like I said, weโ€™ll do three months and revisit the terms. But I think this is what you need to get started.โ€

He glanced back down at it. โ€œLooks solid. I wanted to ask what you thought about TV ads, too.โ€

โ€œThey can be expensive but worth it. Iโ€™d definitely like to see your people on television. Cash and Hector stood out on the news, because they sure as heck grabbed my attention. If I needed movers, Iโ€™d hire them from that segment alone.โ€

Of course she would. Cash had that kind of presence about him. Competent, protective, mission-orientedโ€ฆ So long as he kept his big mouth shut, they might make things work.

โ€œYeah, about that. Iโ€™ve had a request for an interview, a spotlight on our company.โ€

She grabbed a pen and pad of paper. โ€œWhen did you schedule it for?โ€

โ€œI didnโ€™t, not yet. Thought Iโ€™d see what you thought.โ€

โ€œDo it.โ€ She stared at him. โ€œFrom the small group I saw at your office, youโ€™ll represent well. Now, if youโ€™re all photogenic too, weโ€™re golden. We know Hector and Cash look great on camera. Hector is much more charming than your brother. As appealing as your brother may be as the strong type, heโ€™s not exactly silent. A lot of censoring in that piece the news ran on your company.โ€

โ€œTell me something I donโ€™t know.โ€

Her continuous stare made him a little uncomfortable. โ€œSomething wrong?โ€

โ€œHmm. I think we need to brand you as a family company first. You and your brother, together, would really work to sell Vets on the Go!.โ€

โ€œMy cousinโ€™s also a partner. We all kind of look alike, so youโ€™d see the family resemblance.โ€

โ€œEven better.โ€ She made a few notes. โ€œSo we highlight you three, then pepper the interview with your brawny, good-looking employees. And bam, youโ€™ve already made an impression on the hundreds and thousands of single women needing to move.โ€

โ€œNow weโ€™re targeting women?โ€

โ€œYes. And families, and veterans themselves. You have an original appeal, and not just because youโ€™re handsome.โ€ She flushed and hurried to add, โ€œAnd by you, I mean your team and your business.โ€

โ€œSo Iโ€™m not handsome, then?โ€ he asked to tease her, loving that blush.

Naomi cleared her throat and said dryly, โ€œI think youโ€™re well aware of your looks. My point is we use every weapon in your arsenal. You have fit, appealing employees whoโ€™ve served our country. Thatโ€™s three for three. Now looking at your ratesโ€ฆโ€

She swiveled her computer monitor so he could see it. โ€œLeo, our data guru, sent me a comparison to see who your major competitors are.โ€

โ€œWe went through this before we started the company,โ€ he said.

โ€œBear with me.โ€ They went over more numbers, enough to make his head spin. In certain demographics, they seemed to hit the mark, while missing entirely in others. โ€œSo you see, if you raise this rate but drop this fee, youโ€™ll still come out even.โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s if this marketing works.โ€

She gave him another of those penetrating looks that caused the sparks in his belly to start up and dance. โ€œOh, itโ€™ll work.โ€

โ€œConfident in your abilities, huh?โ€

โ€œYou know what, Reid? I am. Now, Iโ€™ve got the same issues as most women.โ€ Her charming smile disarmed him. โ€œI often wonder, does this outfit make me look fat? Is my hair the mess I think it is? Will he call like he said he would?โ€ She smiled then turned uber professional between one breath and the next. โ€œBut one thing Iโ€™m not is deluded about my professional abilities. I wonโ€™t promise what we canโ€™t deliver. I know how to help businesses grow and flourish, and yes, Iโ€™m damn good at what I do.โ€

He believed her a hundred percent. โ€œOkay then.โ€ He studied her right back, noticing the plump curve of her lips. The sparkle in her blue eyes.

He took his pen and signed the contract, then pushed the folder back to her, irritated that he had to work to maintain control, aware of his racing pulse. Reid was man enough to handle being attracted to a beautiful woman. Didnโ€™t mean he had to follow his dick where it led. โ€œBut for the record, the outfit is flattering, your hair is beautiful, and if heโ€™s dumb enough not to call back, he doesnโ€™t deserve you.โ€ He stood before he made a bigger fool of himself. โ€œIโ€™ll set up the interview with the news station and let you know.โ€

The Only Thing

The Donnigans series

by Marie Harte

Blurb:

What do you do when a “fake” relationship is so much better than the real thing?

Hope Donnigan is finally getting her life together. She’s working a job she likes, has some amazing friends, and is steering clear of Mr. Wrong. Now if only she could get her mother to understand that. Maybe a hot tattoo artist from the other side town is just the ticket to teach her mom a lesson.

J.T. Webster fell for Hope months ago at his sister’s wedding. So when she propositions him to be her fake boyfriend to get her mother off her back, he’s all in. The only problem is J.T. had no idea their pretend relationship would be better than anything real he’s ever hadโ€ฆ

Excerpt:

Hope lost herself in J.T. He smelled like an invitation to sex and tasted like honeyed caramel. Good Lord, but the man knew how to kiss.

The moment heโ€™d touched her lips, sheโ€™d forgotten her own advice to steer clear of men and latched onto him. And now she could do nothing but enjoy a real man concentrating on her.

He moaned, slanted his mouth at an angle that gave him deeper access, and followed her tongue with his, dipping into the recesses of her mouth and stimulating every damn cell in her body.

He was hard. All over. His broad chest swelled. Arms that she could barely fit her hands around tightened. As did the rest of him when he drew her into his body.

She felt caged in his embrace, totally controlled by a man much more powerful than herself. But she sensed nothing but arousal and safety, oddly enough. Nothing overbearing, like what sheโ€™d experienced with a few of her exes.

A smart woman would put a stop to the kiss. Especially when he put his large hand at the small of her back and pulled her closer still, allowing her to feel the impressive bulge between his legs. Their disparity in size was evident, especially that big part of him she felt all too clearly when he rubbed against her belly. She gasped, caught between his kiss and his shocking dimensions.

He trailed his lips down her cheek to suck at her neck.

She moaned, tilting her head back, doing her damnedest to find the will to push him away. But her body had other plans.

Her breasts ached. The place between her legs throbbed. And the rest of her tingled, every part of her needing to lie down on the nearest horizontal surface so she could spread her legs in welcomeโ€ฆ

โ€œNo.โ€ She pushed weakly at his chest.

J.T. froze, panting. โ€œNo?โ€ he choked out.

โ€œYes. I mean, no. We canโ€™t do this,โ€ she managed between large intakes of breath.

He slowly put her away from him and stared at her from under hooded lids. All she could think was that he looked kissable.

โ€œStop.โ€

โ€œHuh?โ€ She shivered.

โ€œDonโ€™t look at me like that.โ€

She licked her suddenly dry lips, and he glanced away and swore.

โ€œL-like what?โ€

โ€œLike you want me toโ€ฆ Never mind.โ€ He blew out a harsh breath. โ€œYeah, um. Good idea to stop that. Weโ€™re just pretending, right?โ€

โ€œHuh?โ€

โ€œAbout dating. So we can fool your mom if we have to kiss in front of her to be believable.โ€

โ€œRight. Yes. Uh huh.โ€ Think, Hope. With more than your ovaries. โ€œIโ€™m sorry. I didnโ€™tโ€ฆ I wasnโ€™t trying to put out the wrong signals.โ€ That I want you? That sex with you is on my must have list? โ€œI told you I had some tough relationships in the past.โ€ She swallowed the lump in her throat. โ€œIโ€™m trying to do better and be focused on me right now.โ€

โ€œSure. I get you.โ€ He nodded and tucked his hands in his pockets, which did nothing to mask the raging hard-on under his fly. โ€œSmart move. I met Greg. I feel you.โ€

She sighed. โ€œYeah.โ€

They all started out nice, then slowly morphed into monsters. J.T. seemed amiable, sexy, safe. What would he turn out to be in the end?

โ€œOkay then.โ€ He cleared his throat and guided her toward the front door. โ€œWe wonโ€™t do this again. But we know we can pull it off for your mom if we need to.โ€

โ€œRight. I really do appreciate you doing this for me.โ€ She stopped and faced him, feeling bad for pulling him into her mess. โ€œYou donโ€™t have to, you know.โ€

โ€œUm, yeah, I do. Where else will you find a tattoo artist with several baby mommas and jail time on his resume?โ€

She stared. โ€œReally?โ€

โ€œWell, no. Thatโ€™s not all true.โ€ He winked at her. โ€œBut to find out which parts Iโ€™m lying about, you have to buy me a beer at Rayโ€™s.โ€

She gave him a smile, unable to help herself. Charming should have been his middle name. That and handsome. โ€œItโ€™s a date.โ€

โ€œWednesday at six work for you?โ€ he asked. โ€œItโ€™s a little less crowded in the middle of the week, and less scary for a first timer.โ€

โ€œI wonโ€™t be scared.โ€ Sheโ€™d heard from her brothers about the rough types who hung out around the place.

โ€œHoney, I was scared my first time. And my second, my thirdโ€ฆโ€ They shared a laugh. โ€œRayโ€™s is good people. Tough, but good. Iโ€™ll pick you up. Will that be okay?โ€

She thought about it and realized she didnโ€™t care if he knew where she lived. โ€œYouโ€™re practically family,โ€ she teased. โ€œI trust you.โ€

She couldnโ€™t read the look he shot her as he walked her to her car and waited for her to belt up. Once all secured, she rolled down her window. โ€œOkay. Whatโ€™s with that look?โ€

โ€œJust remember, Hopeโ€”we arenโ€™t family.โ€ He shook his head and bent to stare her in the eye. โ€œBecause Iโ€™m not down with kissing my family like I kissed you.โ€ He stroked her cheek, sighed, and straightened. โ€œNow go home before I forget why I shouldnโ€™t give you what youโ€™re asking for.โ€

Heck, sheโ€™d been the one to say no earlier. But when his eyes narrowed, she obeyed. Better to keep him happy since heโ€™d agreed to help. Plus, she trusted what she knew of him. If he thought she should leave, sheโ€™d go. Because if she stayed any longer, she might assault the man and have her wicked way with him. And that would pretty much shoot her independent,ย  no-men stance all to hell.

Turning on the radio, she sang all the way home, feeling better about life than she had in a long time.

The next day, she arrived at work early, in a cheerful mood. She wore a business casual outfit of dress pants, heels, and a silk blouse. Even Linda would have trouble making an issue of her clothing, styled hair, and makeup.

Instead of annoyance at thoughts of her domineering mother, Hope smiled, recalling J.T.โ€™s warmth, the feel of his firm yet soft lips guiding her. Melting her. She sighed as she took the elevator to the office on the second floor. โ€œDatingโ€ J.T. would prove to be a challenge, because everything in her wanted to be with the man for real. To see if he could make good on his reputationโ€™s promise as a marvel in bed.

Just the Thing

Donnigans #2

by Marie Harte

Blurb:

A fling might be just the thing …

Gavin Donnigan left the Marine Corps a shell of a man, hounded by guilt for deaths he couldnโ€™t prevent. But teaching a self-defense class at the local gym brings some stability to his lifeโ€”along with a gorgeous leggy woman who wonโ€™t give him the time of day.

Zoe York lost her twin sister to a freak car accident a few months ago. Sheโ€™s been struggling to bury her grief, but it isnโ€™t until she signs up for a self-defense class with its distractingly hot instructor that she begins to come out of her shell again. With the memory of her sister telling her to live a little, Zoe decides a fling with buns-of-steel Gavin Donnigan might be just the thing.

Soon theyโ€™re sparring both in and out of the gym. And for the first time in a long time, each is looking forward to tomorrow.

Excerpt:

Thursday evening, Zoe gaped at the address Gavin had sent her to. Sheโ€™d been lucky enough to dodge her motherโ€™s phone calls, had missed Cleo stopping by earlier this evening, and had ignored Piperโ€™s texts. Otherwise, she would have shared news of a date she wanted to keep to herself.

Now she had to get through said date without jumping the poor man. Every time she thought about how long sheโ€™d sat on him in the gymโ€”knowing exactly what he felt like in those thin shorts, every inch of him excited to be with herโ€”her world turned upside down. Not a prude by any means, sheโ€™d still never ground over an aroused man in a public place when she barely knew more than his name.

Well, sheโ€™d wanted to do a one-eighty from her normal routine. Cleo and Piper would be pleased. Or at least, they might be if Zoe decided to confide details about this date. Then again, depending on how tonight went, she might never speak to Gavin again. She sure the hell wouldnโ€™t be sleeping with him on their first night out together.

So sad she had to keep reminding herself of that. No one-night stands.

Ever?

Ignoring temptation, she shut her fantasies down tight. No, never.

After parking in the stone driveway of a huge old Victorian house on a nice piece of property in Magnolia,โ€”a pricey area of Seattle that boasted quiet streets, lots of greenery, and amazing views of Puget Sound,โ€”she cautiously left the car. She stared at the house with suspicion, wondering just what Gavin had in store.

He opened the door to greet her. Wearing a pair of well-worn jeans and a faded blue sweatshirt, he looked at home and way too handsome for her peace of mind.

Sheโ€™d dressed down in jeans and a sweater over a thin T-shirt. With the cool spring evenings, she normally dressed heavier for comfort. A smart idea, considering she had no idea if theyโ€™d be indoors or outside tonight.

โ€œThis is your place?โ€ she asked, not believing for a second he lived in such a grand, landscaped home. It just seemed all wrong for him.

He chuckled. โ€œNah. It belongs to a friend of my sisterโ€™s. Hopeโ€™s house-sitting, but sheโ€™s letting me borrow it tonight.โ€

Zoe followed him into the huge house. It had rich mahogany furnishings, a few sculptures that looked like they cost in the thousands, and the feel of a professional interior designer. No dust, no mess, and everything had its place.

Following him through the entrance and down the hallway, past the stairs to the kitchen, she stopped and gawked. The kitchen had to be as large as her living room, dining room, and pantry combined. It had an island, marble countertops, two sinks, stainless-steel appliances, and a Viking stoveโ€”the same high-end one Piper had in her kitchen. A large vase of flowers sat on the island, while the glossy oak table off to the back looked over an expansive patio, which in turn overlooked the ocean.

โ€œHoly crap. This is amazing.โ€

โ€œI know, right?โ€ Gavin nodded. โ€œGo on, check it out. But keep your sweater on. The funโ€™s outside.โ€

โ€œNot sure what that means, but give me a minute. I need some time to take this in.โ€ She walked around the kitchen some more, while he went out to the patio and down some steps to the backyard.

After sadly affirming that sheโ€™d never have a kitchen this grand, she made mental notes to share with Cleo, a fellow HGTV addict who would go gaga over this house.

A few moments later, Zoe stepped outside on the patio, looking for Gavin. She still had no idea why heโ€™d brought her to someone elseโ€™s home, but it had been worth the drive just to see that kitchen.

โ€œGavin?โ€ The stone deck ran the entire length of the back of the house and had plenty of room for a table and chair, potted flowers and plants, and a snazzy fire pit embedded in the ground. It was surrounded by rock that had been built up, no doubt to provide a measure of safety.

A glance beyond the deck showed the Sound in all its glory. The sun was setting, and an indigo sky surrounded a blanket of clouds trying to block out the rising moonโ€”and failing. The wind picked up, bringing a chill to the air. But the crisp scent of salt water cleaned everything around her.

Zoe breathed in and out, knowing a sense of serenity sheโ€™d been missing of late.

โ€œOver here,โ€ Gavin called.

She gave up her view of the water and found him on the side of house, in a corner of the lot with trees on one side and the patio on the other. Talk about a nice amount of privacy. The clearing had several boxes filled with green and growing things. And there, in the distance, a small greenhouse.

She blinked, feeling as if sheโ€™d stepped into her version of heaven.

โ€œWell? Donโ€™t just stand there.โ€ Gavin nodded at a small assortment of gardening tools on the ground beside him. A trowel, a weeder, a spade, and a shovel. โ€œThe gloves are for you.โ€

They looked brand new. She picked up the pink set, tugged off the tags, and put them on. โ€œPink?โ€

He smiled. โ€œYou like โ€™em? Maybe you can wear them with your yoga pants at the gym sometime.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re obsessed with those pants, arenโ€™t you?โ€

He chuckled. โ€œCome on. We need to weed.โ€ He crouched down and reached a hand out to some overflowing green. โ€œBut Iโ€™m not sure if thatโ€™s a plant orโ€”โ€

โ€œStop. Thatโ€™s not a weed.โ€ She gently nudged him out of the way before he could kill the coreopsis and garden phlox around some limp tulips. He handed her the snips, and she clipped the spent tulip blooms, then did a bit more pruning and pulled a few real weeds. She showed him the difference, then answered his questions about what to plant when and how to separate a few daylily bulbs that really should have been split before now. So lost in the gardening, it took Zoe a good half an hour before she realized this was to be the extent of her date.

Peering over her shoulder, she frowned at Gavin and turned to face him, standing so that they could look eye to eye. Or rather, eye to throat. She had to glance up to see his gaze. โ€œThis is our date?โ€ Gardening?

The pleasure seemed to leach out of him as he looked down at her. โ€œUh, yeah. Why? You donโ€™t like it? We donโ€™t have to play around all night in the dirt or anything.โ€

โ€œYou thought Iโ€™d like weeding someone elseโ€™s garden for hours?โ€

He sighed. โ€œStupid idea, right?โ€

โ€œNo, not at all.โ€ She stared at him. โ€œHow did you know Iโ€™m into plants?โ€ Fascinating. Heโ€™d chosen one of her favorite things to do, and he seemed to be interested in her explanations about planting and zones and soil type.

โ€œI overheard you at the gym. You and Loretta talk about gardens as if theyโ€™re the second coming. I wanted to do something different with you, and I thought you might like this.โ€ He smiled. โ€œYou did say sex was off the table.โ€

She nodded absently, disconcerted that heโ€™d read her so well. โ€œI like this. Do you?โ€

He flexed his dirty fingers, because he apparently hadnโ€™t bought himself any gloves. โ€œSurprisingly, yeah. It feelsโ€ฆgood.โ€ He looked bewildered. โ€œItโ€™s just dirt and flowers. But I like putting it all together, maybe seeing it grow.โ€ He stared at her as if she had the answers.

โ€œThatโ€™s what I like about it too. I have a small garden in my backyard. I spend a lot of time caring for my flowers and veggies. Itโ€™s fun for me, and I like knowing my hard work will pay off in tomatoes or green beans, maybe even cucumbers.โ€

โ€œFresh is best,โ€ he agreed.

She smiled with him. The moon darted behind clouds, then broke out over them both once more. She shivered when the wind made another pass.

โ€œWait here,โ€ Gavin ordered. โ€œI mean, donโ€™t stop digging and stuff. Iโ€™ll be back.โ€

He left, and she assumed a new spot by another bed, where lilies and clusters of out-of-control lavender congregated. He returned with a tray of cocoa and marshmallows, all served on some fancy-looking crockery. โ€œWasnโ€™t sure if you liked coffee or tea, but thought I couldnโ€™t go wrong with cocoa.โ€

โ€œYes.โ€ Chocolate, one of her major weaknesses. She tried to eat healthy, but the heaven known as liquid milk chocolate constantly called to her. As did those mini marshmallows.

He handed her a mug and watched her with intense eyes.

After a few decadent sips, she frowned. โ€œDo I have marshmallow on my lip or something?โ€ Then she licked her lips just to be sure they were clean.

โ€œDid you have to do that? Iโ€™ve been so good, behaving myself.โ€ He took the mug from her and set it on the wooden border of the flowerbed, then moved into her personal space.

She refused to back up, so they stood so close that she nearly bumped his chin when she tilted her face up to see him better.

โ€œYouโ€™re so pretty. Even when youโ€™re not wearing pink,โ€ he teased, his voice soft on the cool wind.

The moment seemed like a freeze frame from the most romantic scene ever. She still tasted chocolate. The moon overhead lit everything with a preternatural glow. The scents of earth and lavender and Gavin filled her head, until she could focus on nothing but him.

โ€œGavin?โ€ She didnโ€™t know what she was asking him for, but the promise of safety in his eyes drew her closer.

โ€œIโ€™m gonna kiss you now,โ€ he said, his voice low, warm.

She nodded.

He leaned closer at the same time she did.

Their coming together felt amazing. Perfect. Right. The kiss shook her. Deep, sensual, yet not as close as she wanted. His tongue swept her mouth, caressing while he took charge of the embrace. But not once did he overwhelm her. Instead, she followed him, sip for sip, and let the rush of her heartbeat pull her into a tide of longing she couldnโ€™t suppress. Not now, surrounded by all her favorite things.

โ€œGavin,โ€ she murmured when he kissed his way from her mouth down her cheek to her throat.

He pulled her to him, but their clothes kept them too far apart. Gentle bites down her throat ended in a soft kiss that caused a full-body shiver.

โ€œCold?โ€ he whispered as he straightened.

She shook her head, unable to speak, and blinked into his shuttered gaze. Then he made everything worse. He tucked her head under his chin and hugged her with affection. No way she could chalk this up as a gambit to get her to bed, not when he had the gall to make her feel.

With a sigh, he ended the embrace and pulled back. โ€œNow show me which ones I can pull and which ones I canโ€™t.โ€ He nodded at the third flower bed they hadnโ€™t gotten to yet, not winded or affected by their kiss, apparently. Hell. Zoe couldnโ€™t feel his heartbeat through their clothes, but hers raced like a thoroughbred intent on taking the Triple Crown.

The bastard had the nerve to wipe a clean thumb over her lower lip, causing that thoroughbred to run past the finish line with no signs of stopping.

โ€œI have the urge to flip you again, right here,โ€ she rasped. For starting something he wouldnโ€™t finish. And for making her want to finish it, regardless of their newness.

He smirked, as if reading her mind. โ€œI know. I canโ€™t stop thinking about us in the gym either.โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s not what I meant.โ€

He wiggled his brows. โ€œI think it is. Next time Iโ€™m flat on my back, Iโ€™ll be thinking only of you, Mistress.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re such a pain.โ€

โ€œI know. Itโ€™s a gift.โ€

She wanted to smack him, so she did. When his laughter ended, she pulled him close and planted a kiss on him that had him panting and grabbing for herโ€”but this time she had the presence of mind to disentangle herself. โ€œNow,โ€ she said, her voice hoarse, โ€œgrab that trowel and letโ€™s get back to work.โ€

He kept staring at her mouth. โ€œTrowel?โ€

She groaned, because she wanted to get back to that kiss as well. โ€œWhy me?โ€

Itโ€™s lust at first sight when Brody Singer first lays eyes on Abby Dunn. The dark-haired beauty looks a lot like a woman he once knew, who died years ago. At first Brody fears his attraction is a holdover from that secret crush, but Abbyโ€™s definitely different. Sheโ€™s a lot shyer, a lot sexier and, despite her attempts to dissuade his interest, absolutely mesmerizing.

SHE CANโ€™T GET HIM OUT OF HER BOOKS

Abby isnโ€™t having it. Sheโ€™s still trying to put her last disastrous relationship behind her and overcome the flaws her ex wouldnโ€™t let her forget. But somehow Brody isnโ€™t getting the hint. It doesnโ€™t help that when writing her steamy novels, she keeps casting Brody as the hero.ย

Brody is more than happy to serve as her muse and eager to help make sure her โ€œresearchโ€ is authentic. But when their research turns into something realโ€ฆwill she choose her own happily ever after?

I really liked both Abby and Brody.ย  They are regular everyday people with regular everyday problems and it is fun seeing them give in to their feelings for one another. ย (I missed the first book in this series, but I think that it might only have given me a little more insight into the characters, that’s about it.)ย Abby had a bad relationship that has left her feeling less than sure about herself and her appeal.ย  Brody has some serious baggage from his childhood that causes him to feel unworthy and he hides any serious feelings behind a goofy facade.

I was completely captivated by these two as they worked thru these issues and figured out whether they can make a go of a real relationship.ย  You have to be ready for some heartache to go with the romance though because they have theirย troublesย to go along with fun.

How to Handle a Heartbreaker is steamy and heartwarming and funny and sweet – a totally delicious package.ย  And even better we get (or continue) our introduction to the other McCauley brothers, who are guaranteed to delivery just as fantastic future stories. ย I’m so looking forward to seeing the other two brothers find the women whoย are their matches.
