Duke

Lucky River Ranch

by Jessica Peterson

Blurb:

One chance meeting on a Texas ranch.

One wild, too-charming cowboy.

One snowed-in night that changes everything.

Wheeler Rankin isnโ€™t here for romanceโ€”sheโ€™s come to Lucky River Ranch to visit her best friend, wrangle a business deal, and prove herself to everyone who ever doubted her. But when she collides with Duke Riversโ€”resident heartbreaker, restless cowboy, and brother to her best friendโ€™s new flameโ€”sparks fly hotter than a Texas summer.

Duke has always dreamed of more than dusty trails and small-town life. Heโ€™s itching to see the world, but one unforgettable night with Wheeler changes his course. When a blizzard and a business road trip leave them stranded together, their no-strings flirtation ignites into something deeper.

But passion brings complicationsโ€”and unexpected news threatens to upend everything Wheelerโ€™s built. As family pressures, old wounds, and new dreams collide, Duke is determined to stand by her side, ready to forge a future neither of them ever imagined.

Can two fiercely independent souls trust in love, face their fears, and find home in each otherโ€™s arms? Or will the ghosts of the past keep them apart for good?

Welcome back to Hartsville, where family is found, love is hard-won, and every cowboy has a story worth telling.

Review:

Poor Wheeler is going to get all the negativity for this one, I think. Duke is just a big ol’ walking green flag, everything that you could ask for in a partner, and she just can’t get out of her own way. It’s understandable – between her dad & older brother and some poor past relationships (although she may be a little at fault there, she does have a habit of self-destruction & running away) she doesn’t have a lot of faith in herself and her appeal.

It just breaks my heart because she seems fun and loving and good hearted, everything that you would want for one of the Rivers brothers. And her first meeting “date” with Duke is just swooney. It may be a bit much for some because it does go on for so long, tho.

While she puts up a good fight, Duke isn’t going to let her go too easily. With patience, love, and grit, he’s willing to put in the work, to show not just tell, and prove to Wheeler that he’s genuine in his pursuit. And it is a beautiful thing to see. Those boys have been through a lot but they all grew up to be real good men. Dirty talking, big hearted, good men and I love every one of them.

Peterson delivers another fantastic entry to her Lucky River Ranch series. It’s a slow burn, but it does bring the feels and a deserved HEA. Just one more brother to go – we’re ready for you Ryder!

Book Review, Jessica Peterson, Lucky River Ranch series, Sawyer

Dirty dancing leads to a chance at forever in this sizzling single parent, found family, small town romance by Jessica Peterson.

Sawyer

A Lucky River Ranch Novel

by Jessica Peterson

Blurb:

As a recently divorced single mom, I have zero interest in flirting with guys while on a rare girlsโ€™ weekend away with my sisters. I just want to have fun, celebrate my new job, and listen to live music at a honky tonk.

But when I literally stumble into the most gorgeous guy ever on the dance floor, those plans go up in smoke. Growing up on the barrel racing circuit, Iโ€™m not immune to the charms of a cowboy. But this particular one is hot as hell: Sawyerโ€™s got a mustache, some sexy tattoos, and a very filthy mouth.

Needless to say, we end up naked in his swanky hotel room. Itโ€™s the best sex of my life. And the way Sawyer treats me like a queen? Letโ€™s just say a girl could get addicted to that kind of adoration.

Good thing heโ€™ll always be just a one night stand I can look back on with a smile. Iโ€™m rebuilding our life from scratch, and I need to focus on my three-year-old daughter and the dream job I just landed.

Imagine my surprise, then, when I move to Hartsville and run into a tattooed cowboy with an endearing daughter of his own. Now Sawyer wants more than the occasional playdates between our girls. But the closer we become, the more determined this sexy single dad is to keep me forever.ย

As much as I am falling for Sawyer, Iโ€™m terrified. Iโ€™ve been down this road before with my ex, and I wonder if I can trust this cowboy. Will he rope the moon for me? Or is my heart destined to be trampled all over again?

Review:

Oh my, the Rivers boy … *sigh* I love these dirty talking, big hearted, noble cowboys. Sawyer is trying so hard to be a good dad, good brother, and good cowboy. He’s struggling with feeling like he’s not enough and should be able to do more. But meeting Ava helps take some of that stress away for a little while.

I liked Ava and I liked her with Sawyer but I am not sure I quite understand why she hangs on to her concern about getting involved with him as long as she did. I get that her previous relationship was awful and toxic and abusive but … surely she understands that not every relationship is like that? Maybe it is because they got together so young that it imprinted those feelings about herself.

Their night together at the beginning was steamy, fun, and a chance for them to let go & remember themselves as people not just parents. And it is a feeling that they are able to keep going once they meet again later. They work well together, as adults and as parents, and I enjoyed their relationship a lot.

There’s not a lot of drama in this one. Mostly it’s whether Ava can let go of her issues with relationships to give Sawyer a real chance. He does have a few hang ups of his own, especially with stretching himself too thin. Overall, it’s about them creating an amazing little family together and learning to trust in others – to trust they truly accept them and are willing to bet there when needed. And I enjoy seeing them create connections and relationships with each other & those around them

Full of adorable kids, sassy women, and sexy cowboys, Sawyer is a cute (and hot) addition to the Lucky River Ranch series. Sawyer is such a good man and Ava is the perfect person to help him remember to enjoy life and I’m here for it. And I’m also here for what comes next thanks to that little tease at the end!

Wyatt

A Lucky River Ranch series

by Jessica Peterson

Blurb:

Wyatt Rivers is the perfect no-strings hookupโ€”a cowboy Casanova who rocks a Stetson, looks smokinโ€™ hot in his Wranglers, and never rests his head on the same pillow twice.

Heโ€™s exactly what Iโ€™m looking for. If only Wyatt wasnโ€™t also my best friendโ€ฆ

Iโ€™m back in my hometown of Harstville, Texas, for a few months while I wait for my dream job to start thousands of miles away. While Iโ€™m here, I hope to end an epic dry spell in the bedroom, preferably with a local cowboy. If the rumors are true, they really do ride harder and stay on longer.

Wyatt and I have been best friends since second grade, and Iโ€™ve been in love with him for almost as long. But heโ€™s as wild and untamed as a colt that canโ€™t be brokenโ€”not to mention, totally out of my league with his good looks and heartbreaker reputation.

Then I get to thinking: since Wyatt is such an expert, why doesnโ€™t he teach me the ropes of how to find a hookup? He begrudgingly agrees, and a little fake flirting suddenly leads to fake dating, which leads to real kissing, which leads to realโ€ฆwell, everything else.

And let me just say, the rumors are absolutely true.

Now, I want so badly to be Wyattโ€™s last rodeo. But Iโ€™m leaving town, and even if I wasnโ€™t, Iโ€™m not sure Wyatt would ever change his playboy ways.

I know cowboys canโ€™t be tamed. Apparently, neither can heartsโ€ฆ

Review:

I’m not a huge fan of romances where both characters have feelings for each other but they feel like they have to hide it for some reason. I understand where they are coming from, and it is definitely hard to put yourself out there, but it can get a little old after a while.

I think that Peterson does a great job with her story though. Pacing is well done, with a good flow from friendship to something more. The characters are believable in their actions & feelings and the way they approach a change in their relationship as well. So while it isn’t my personal favorite, I feel like it will delight those that enjoy that kind of thing.

While Wyatt wasn’t quite the home run for me that Cash was, I did enjoy it a whole heck of a lot. Peterson gives us another dirty talking Rivers cowboy and a sassy woman to keep him on his toes. The relationship between Sally and Wyatt is the sweetest – the connection they have and their history together – and I was so happy for them to figure things out.

Cash

A Lucky River Ranch novel

by Jessica Peterson

Blurb:

Butting heads leads to knocking boots in this wildly sexy enemies-to-lovers, grumpy/sunshine, small town cowboy romance by Jessica Peterson.

My dad and I have been estranged for years. But as his only living relative, itโ€™s no surprise I inherit his massive cattle ranch when he dies. Something that is a surprise? The stipulation in his will, which requires me to live on the ranch and actively manage it for a year before I can access my inheritance money.

I havenโ€™t stepped foot in Hartsville, Texas, population one thousand, since my parents split when I was six. Now a city girl through and through, I never imagined having to move back to cowboy country. But I need the money to invest in my company, and a girlโ€™s gotta do what a girlโ€™s gotta do.

Thereโ€™s just one giant roadblock to my plan: the ranchโ€™s foreman, grumpy cowboy Cash Rivers. I donโ€™t care how good he looks in his Wranglers and chaps. Heโ€™s rude, heโ€™s growly, and he wants me gone. Iโ€™d fire him in a heartbeat, but I need this cowboy to teach me the ropes of running a ranch.

Weโ€™re enemies from the get-go. But turns out, Cash is really good at this ranch thing. Heโ€™s got strong hands, an intelligent mind, and letโ€™s just say everything really is bigger in Texas. Working alongside him leads to conversations beneath the stars. Throw in some cheek-to-cheek dancing at the local dive bar, and it all feels so right that I start to fall in love with life on the ranch. And maybe with him, too.

But my stay in Hartsville is only temporary. And you know what they say about cowboys: they may break horses, but they also break hearts. If only Cash hadnโ€™t already lassoed mineโ€ฆ

CASH is the first standalone book in the brand new steamy, interconnected Lucky River Ranch Series!

Review:

Y’all, I’ve never read a Peterson book before and I’m super glad that Cash was the first. Cash & Mollie are a lot of fun together. I liked that while they rubbed each other wrong at the beginning it really didn’t take them long to develop a more positive relationship. Peterson could easily have leaned into the enemies-to-lovers trope but chose to pulled back a little there and I enjoyed that it was lighter on the angst.

Cash is a good person and while he’s disappointed by the way things have turned out he just doesn’t have it in him to take it out on Mollie for long. Drawn to her gumption and how she obviously cares about others, including him, Cash is there to support her too, to help her come to terms with her feelings about her dad, and to be there as she figures out where her heart lies.

It may be predictable but it still has all the feels … and all the dirty talking cowboy that a reader could ask for. I’m looking forward to seeing what Peterson has in store for the rest of the Rivers boys. She’s definitely teed us up for a good one with Wyatt ๐Ÿ™‚
