Excerpt:

MAX

โ€œIโ€™m a big girl, Maxwell. I donโ€™t need you and Gavin coming in here and fighting my battles for me. Iโ€™m not some idiotic college girl anymore.โ€

I flinched and softened my tone. โ€œI never said you were, Lee-L ee. Never once gave you that idea.โ€

โ€œNo, but you came here and picked a fight when I already had it handled.โ€ She shrugged one shoulder.

โ€œI saw that asshole put his hands on you at the bar. I was going to let it lie, butโ€ฆโ€ I ran my hand through my hair and took a step back, pulling at the ends to keep myself in check. Only Lia could push my buttons like this. Only Lia made me want to explode with every emotion known to man.

โ€œBut what?โ€ she asked, her voice going hard.

My thoughts took me back, reminding me what she hadnโ€™t heard from that idiot punk kid. I closed my eyes, willing the rage away, fighting with what I wanted to say versus what I needed to say instead.

I didnโ€™t want to tell her what that guy said, but because I kept nothing from this girlโ€”because she needed this knowledge to prepare herself in case something happened when I wasnโ€™t aroundโ€” I told her anyway. โ€œThose guys, Lee-L eeโ€ฆ They said shit, planned on coming after you after work. I heard them talking about it.โ€

She froze. โ€œOh.โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s what you say when I tell you some guys were planning on doing God only knows what to you?โ€

I pulled her closer by the shoulders this time, slowly lowering my hands to her upper arms. Goose bumps pebbled her pretty skin as I slid my palms down to her elbows, proof that what I said affected her, regardless of her donโ€™t-give-a-shit attitude.

โ€œJust stop, okay?โ€ She lifted her finger and pressed it to my lips, those eyes I dreamed of night after night locked with mine. โ€œGuess itโ€™s high time I start paying you back for some of what I owe you. First bail, nowโ€ฆthis?โ€

โ€œWhat?โ€ I jerked my head back, confused. โ€œWhat you

owe me? You donโ€™t owe me shโ€”โ€ And thatโ€™s when she kissed me. Fingers in my hair, lips parting, tongue dancingโ€ฆ

Holy. Hell. Lia fucked with her mouth, and it was the hottest thing Iโ€™d ever done in my life.

She moaned. I mightโ€™ve too. Wet, sweet, hotโ€ฆeverything Iโ€™d ever imagined our kisses could be. I bit down on her lip, her fingers grazing my neck, digging into my skin, then my hair. I lowered my hands to her ass and squeezed, jerking her close, grinding my cock against her stomach.

More, more, more. I need more.

Fingers aching, I tucked my hands into the back of her shorts, finding the string of her thong. I tugged it aside, damn near ripping it with my fingers. Our teeth rammed together, my body wound up, hers pliant.

This was it. Our moment. The one Iโ€™d been dying for. The one that showed me she wanted me tooโ€”t hat I wasnโ€™t losing my mind after all. This was the moment when everything changed.

That is, until she stopped. Froze was more like it. Then her hands were on my chest, shoving me back. Not hard, but just enough to break our connection.

I panted like a dog, reaching for her, growling at her. Needing her.

But then she winked. Fucking winked at me. โ€œThat work for you, Soldier Boy?โ€

โ€œUhโ€ฆโ€ I blinked, confused and in a hell of a lot of pain from my dick pressing hard against my zipper. Unconsciously, I adjusted my cock, forgetting she could see, that she was waiting and watching for my reaction. Maybe even waiting for me to say something charming. Which I couldnโ€™t, because Lia had mouth-fucked the words right outta me.

An adorable smirk grew on her face, stealing what little brainpower I had left. Instead of talking though, trying to figure out why sheโ€™d done that, I leaned forward, needing moreโ€”a spoiled, greedy man with a one- track mind. Thatโ€™s all Iโ€™d ever be when it came to her.

Before I could get another good taste, she turned her back to me, reached for the door handle, and said, โ€œNow thatโ€™s one less favor I owe you.โ€ Then she unlocked the door and left me behind like a dumb-ass.

Excerpt:

Addison

He answered on the third ring. โ€œHey, Gav. You busy?โ€

โ€œNot Gav.โ€

My face warmed at the sound of Collinโ€™s voice.

โ€œYou there?โ€

โ€œUm, yes. But I need to speak with Gavin, please.โ€ Keep breathing, keep calm. Youโ€™ve got this.

โ€œBut I need to talk to you first.โ€

I clenched my teeth. โ€œMay I talk to him, please?โ€

โ€œNope.โ€

I threw my head back against the couch and groaned. โ€œWhy not?โ€ If he was going to be short with his answers, I would be short with my questions.

โ€œNeed to talk to you about something first. Told you that.โ€

Couldโ€™ve sworn I heard the words Needs to eat your pussy is more like it in the background, but my mind was scrambling like the eggs Iโ€™d cooked for breakfast.

โ€œShut up, asshole,โ€ Collin barked.

I spun a loose string around my finger. โ€œWhat did you just say to me?โ€

Total dรฉjร  vu.

The wind slapped against his speaker. โ€œAre you driving?โ€ I unraveled the string from my finger and bounced my knee. โ€œBecause in the State of Illinois, itโ€™s illegal to drive and talk on a cell phone unless itโ€™s hands free.โ€

โ€œDamn it, no. Sheโ€™s putting that shit in her mouth.โ€ He grumbled something else, and the sound of baby giggles tugged on my already floppy heartstrings.

I couldnโ€™t help but smile as I thought about Chloe. Iโ€™d only been around her twice, but I kind of missed the little thing.

โ€œNot driving. Just playinโ€™ at the park.โ€

Playing at the park. Why did the image make me grin? Collin pushing Chloe in her swing, her little baby legs bouncing up and down as he did.

โ€œWhy are you calling Gavin anyway?โ€

โ€œNone of your business.โ€ My smile fell. โ€œCan you just put him on?โ€

โ€œI told you I needed to talk first.โ€

I rolled my eyes. โ€œFine. Then talk.โ€

โ€œGonna take you out tonight.โ€

Shock pulled me into an upright position, and I stood so fast that a pile of clean towels fell to the floor. โ€œUm, take me out?โ€ I scrambled to pick them up.

โ€œGonna apologize. Again. Buy you food, return your sweater too. If you have plans, then cancel them.โ€

โ€œUh, no. Donโ€™t think so.โ€ At the simple thought of seeing him again, my stomach clenched in both excitement and unease. โ€œYouโ€™re not going to pull that in-charge bullshit on me. And besides, what makes you think I want to see you anyway?โ€

โ€œYou donโ€™t wanna see me, sweetheart?โ€

I slapped my hand over my eyes. Sweetheart? Seriously? โ€œNo. I donโ€™t want to see you, pumpkin. Not when you got me fired from my job the other night with your ultimate-fight-club thing.โ€ I blew out a quick breath. โ€œBesides, I justโ€ฆcanโ€™t.โ€

โ€œI need a better reason.โ€

โ€œAre you serious right now?โ€ What was with this guy and his incessant need to be an asshole?

โ€œDead serious.โ€ He laughed. โ€œIโ€™ll be by your apartment at six to pick you up. Dress casual. Gonna take you to dinner, and then weโ€™re gonna talk. Youโ€™re going to get a free meal and an apology. Canโ€™t get much better than that, am I right?โ€

A Long Time Coming, David Anderson, Heather Van Fleet, Mason Daniel, When It's Least Expected

I don’t usually cover New Adult romances but this one definitely appealed to me and we getย theย special treat of a character interview withย David Anderson (from A Long Time Coming) and Mason Daniel (from When It’s Least Expected).ย  Check out all of Heather’s books at http://sunshinepressbooks.com/product-category/young-adult/.ย  And enjoy this inside look at Heather’s boys andย her new book, plus a fantastic contest.

*****

Meet David Anderson and Mason Danielโ€ฆtogether. It could get spoilerish in this interview, so bewareโ€ฆ

Just know that nothing good can come out of this interview.

— Heather Van Fleet

Me: *smiles as two of my favorite boys step into my kitchen. David gives me his serious nod, and sits. Mason on the other hand, flips the chair backwards, settles his elbows on the back and winks. I think I might be nuts bringing them both here.*

Hey gentlemen. Itโ€™s very good to have you both here in my humble abode. I never thought Iโ€™d get you two together in the same room alone again without causing a riot!

David: Yeah, donโ€™t count on it very often. Mason and I have a mutual understanding. For Harleyโ€™s sake, I donโ€™t kill him.

Mason: *Grins and leans forward even more* Dude, You know you love me. I make your sister happy.

David: *Slouches lower in his seat* That hasnโ€™t always been the case you knowโ€ฆ

Mason: Aw, hellโ€ฆIโ€™m the shit. Donโ€™t deny it. Harley is my wife now. You and I? Weโ€™re brothers all the way.

David: *Rolls eyes and looks at me* See what I have to put up with? *throws a thumb towards Mason* Lucky we donโ€™t have to see each other very often anymore.

Me: Come on you two, I feel like your mom. Letโ€™s just relax, and let by gones be by gones, okay?

David: Fine. *waves me along with his hand* Have at it. Why did you want us both here?

Mason: Leave Ms. Van Fleet alone. *grins widely* She didnโ€™t screw you up too badly, ya know. You got the wife, the kid, the whole packages. Granted you lost a leg and shitโ€ฆ

Me: *Glares at Mason* I wanted youboth here because I missed my boys. Not really understanding why that is at the moment, but, whatever. Anyway, David, you first. Tell me one thing you like about Masonโ€”besides the fact that he makes Harley happy.

David: *Scoffs* Um, can I plead the fifth here? *runs a hand through his messy hair.*

Me: Nope. Canโ€™t do it.

Mason: *taps a beat out on the tabletop* I know what I like about him! *Jabs a thumb in Davidโ€™s direction*

Me: Oooookay thenโ€ฆMason. You go first.

Mason: *Grins* All righty then. The one thing I like about David is that he doesnโ€™t take anyoneโ€™s shit. He stands up for himself. Heโ€™s a pretty powerful dude in that sense.

David: *laughs* So heartwarming, Mason. *leans over and pats him on the back*

Me: Okay, Mr. Smarty Pants David. Your turn.

David: Fine, *groans* I guess you could say heโ€™s pretty decent because he tries really hard to be a good guy. Heโ€™s always there for people too, not just my sister, but his own sister Maisy, and his mom too

Mason: *Leans over close to Davidโ€™s ear to whisper* Thatโ€™s more than one. You really like me, donโ€™t you? *winks at me*

David: *Shakes his head and grins* Donโ€™t press you luck. I donโ€™t know if Iโ€™ll ever like you so to speak. I just tolerate you.

Me: *clears throat* Moving on you two. David, if you met Mason on the street and no idea who he was, what would you say if you saw him?

David: Easy. Iโ€™d tell him to get a haircut. That shit isnโ€™t right!

Mason: *Frowns, brushing his chin length hair from his face. Itโ€™s impossibly long, even for Mase* Itโ€™s not so bad. Gives Harley something to hold onto when weโ€™reโ€”โ€

Me: Mason Daniel, enough! *Runs hand down my face and shuts eyes*

David: Christ, you better shut your mouth.

Mason: Sorry dude, crossed a line. Wonโ€™t step over it again. *grins evily*

Me: Fine. Mason, only fairโ€ฆyour turn. But keep it clean, okay?

Mason: *blue eyes widen, smile grows huge. And yes. The dimples are there. I didnโ€™t realize how much I missed this boy until now* If I saw David, Iโ€™d think to myself that he was inspirational. Having only one leg and all is pretty bad ass. I mean, I donโ€™t know what I could do if that was me. Surfing would be impossible and I donโ€™t know what Iโ€™d doโ€”โ€

David: Shut the hell up. *rolls his eyes and grins*

Mason: *leans over and pats him on the shoulder* Iโ€™m just saying, dude. You inspire me. Youโ€™ve been through a shit storm, but came out of it a lot better than I ever would. I mean, seriously. Iโ€™m proud to call you my brotherโ€“inโ€“law.

Me: *gets all teary and swoony over the surfer boy* Mase, Iโ€™ve missed you.

Mason: *winks and leans back in his chair* And Iโ€™ve missed you, Ms. Van Fleet.

David: Can we get a move on it here? I need to get home. My girls need me.

Mason: *Leans forward* My god though dude, you and Abs make some beautiful kids. *looks at me* have you seen their baby Ms. Van Fleet? Because if you can make their kids that cute, I canโ€™t imagine what youโ€™ll do when me and Har decide to go on our babyโ€“making spree. I think I want four. Har says two, minimum. We might compromise at three but who knows.

David: *shakes head* try one first. Then go from there. Do you even realize how much a baby shits in one day, dude? Cuz they donโ€™t come out potty trained. And the no sleep is wicked too. But damnโ€ฆ*sits back in his chair. Dark eyes go distant and dreamy. I havenโ€™t seen him this in love since him and Abigail first decided to get together. I am one lucky girl, lemme just say* When you hold that baby in your arms for the first time, thereโ€™s nothing else like it.

Mason: Better than sex, eh?

Me: *closes eyes and sighs. Leave it to Mason to ruin a perfect moment*

David: *Laughs* Yeah, dudeโ€ฆit really kind of isโ€ฆ

Me: *smiles*

Mason: *nods and grins*

David: So yeah, I think Iโ€™ve had enough of the mush for now. Letโ€™s go, Mason. My sister is probably wondering where you are.

Me: When do you and Harley head back home?

Mason: My guess is sheโ€™s never gonna want to leave her niece now. *grins and stands*

David: Yeah, but can you blame her? *stands up and moves to grab his coat*

Mason: Nope. Not a bit. My niece beats the waves in a heartbeat.

David: Damn right she does *slaps Mason on the back*

Me: Bye boys. Be nice to each other. Iโ€™ll be watching. And you never know when I might see you again.

Mason and David: *both freeze and glare at me in unison from over their shoulders*

Me: *cackles* Love you two!! *waves*

Abigail Orson has a problem. A love problem to be precise; and she has absolutely no idea how to go about fixing it.

For years now, she has been chasing her best friendโ€™s brotherโ€”demanding things from him that heโ€™s never wanted to give. For one? A real relationship that surpasses well beyond that dreaded โ€˜just friendsโ€™ zone. You see, David Anderson is her idea of perfection to a T. The one and only guy who has ever had the ability to make her heart beat faster; make her toes curl with the simple blink of his long, girly lashes. Abigail is a fighter though, and losing the one guy who has ruined her for every other is no longer an option.

A guy with one leg who has lost his motivation to liveโ€”to loveโ€”to actually be a man. David believes heโ€™s a waste of space. If only the beautiful girl of his unattainable dreams would get that through her perfect, blonde, stubborn head! Heโ€™s not the right guy for Abigail. Heโ€™ll never be worthy of what she deserves. However, staying away is almost impossible, especially when heโ€™s just as in love with her as she is with him. But Abigail has a life ahead of her, one thatโ€™s definitely livable without a nineteenโ€“yearโ€“old gimp like him holding her down. What makes her want to stick around is beyond questionable to Davidโ€™s mind.

Choices will be made. Lines will be drawn. And together, they will face challenges that nobody saw coming. David and Abigail may have had almost fourteen years to fall in love, but the thing is, timing and love have never exactly worked in their favor.

David 2Excerpt:

She spun around, nibbling on her lip, grabbing both of his hands as she pulled him slowly along with her. Her eyes were so focused and shiny that he barely remembered his own name, let alone what he was about to say.

โ€œNo crutches, David.โ€

They made it to the edge of the floor, just as the tempo of the music slowed, to that of a seductive, rhythmic beat. She pulled his hands towards her, and he took that nonโ€“verbal command, wrapping his arms around her waist. His fingers knew just what to do, settling into the curves of her body right above her perfect ass. Those damn traitorous body parts had a mind of their own.

โ€œI wonโ€™t let you fallโ€ฆโ€ she whispered in his ear, running her fingers through the back of his hair like a vixen who he wanted to steal away forever, only, though, so he could lock her up with him in the backseat of her car again.

Shit โ€ฆit wasnโ€™t the fear of falling that worried him. Oh noโ€ฆit was the fear of never wanting to let her go again.
