Envy & Favor, Faye Hall, Sins of the Virtuous series

I’m so excited to have Faye Hall here today to tell us a little about herself and her newest book!

*****

*What do you like best about writing romances?

I love being able to know that unlike in real life, I can put the characters through numerous obstacles and they will always find their happy ending.

*What is your favorite romantic story (movie/book, fact/fiction, whatever you love most)?

Favorite movie would be Beauty and the Beast, book would be anything by Amanda Quick, fact would be the turbulent whirlwind of abuse, domestic violence, and lies that I had to live through in order to find my own happy ending.

*If you could be any romantic character, who would it be and why?

I love Elizabeth Bennet from Pride and Prejudice.  I can relate to her in so many ways.

*Which of your characters/books was the most fun to write?

I really enjoyed Lust & Chastity, Book 1 from Sins of the Virtuous series.  Everything from the research, to the involved plot was just a pleasure to write.

*If you weren’t a writer and could be anything you want, what would it be?

Wow, that’s a hard one.  I help take care of my aging parents, and I find such a sense of achievement in that so I guess caring for the elderly.

Envy & Favor

Sins of the Virtuous

by Faye Hall

Genre: Historical Romance

Blurb:

What happens when a resentful man is determined to win the favor of the one you love?

For years Atol Livia has desired only one thing—to move north, far from the corruption of his father’s business, and start a life with the woman he loves. That is if Anna Jenel can look past his poverty and will agree to marry him. When Anna informs him that she gave her heart to him long ago, never once caring about any wealth he might have, he’s elated. But their plans are delayed when Atol’s father is found murdered. Once Atol has finally settled his obligations and is able to leave town, he goes to collect Anna but discovers that she is gone.

Anna doesn’t understand why her father whisked her away in the middle of the night to travel north. When they arrive, she finds a fully operational cattle station, and an associate of her father’s willing to do anything to gain possession of it—even marry her.

When Atol arrives up north, all he can think of is being reunited with Anna. But he soon discovers that the man who murdered his father now has his eyes set on Anna and will do whatever is necessary in order to have her as his wife. This man is determined to gain possession of Anna’s cattle station and the orange sapphires hidden there.

Will Atol and Anna be able to protect each other from a murderer, or will they fall victim to the envy of this man and lose each other forever?

Excerpt:

“Damn it, Anna,” Atol cursed. Hurrying to mount his horse, he flicked the reins on its rear and sped off after her.

As he closed the distance between them, he knew he was being a fool running after this woman yet again. He needed to stop dropping everything every time she beckoned him. He needed to, but he couldn’t. Anna was everything he could ever want in a woman, and he would follow her to the ends of the earth should she ask him to.

His heart ached as he reminded himself how pointless such a sacrifice would be. Their fathers would never allow any kind of relationship to eventuate between them other than the friendship he had insisted they keep.

It wasn’t just her friendship that he wanted though. He wanted… His fingers brushed against his lips, remembering her soft kiss moments before. It was one of only a few he had been blessed with since they’d moved to Rockhampton, but he treasured them all, fearing this was all

He would ever be able to share with Anna.

Remembering how easily this most recent show of affection had come about, he again began to wonder if he shouldn’t just defy their fathers and confess his true feelings to her. After all, a woman didn’t give a man such affections unless she desired—

“Hurry up, Atol,” she yelled to him from up ahead, interrupting his thoughts.

Looking in the direction of her voice, he saw her dismounting and tying her horse up before undressing down to her chemise and drawers. Captivated by the image she made, he slowed his horse to a walk and approached the swimming hole.

He dismounted and tied his horse near Anna’s, then he slipped off his shoes and removed his shirt, throwing it over a branch of a nearby bottlebrush tree. Strolling toward the bank of the creek, he stalled and rolled up the legs of his jeans before entering the cool water.

“You took your time getting here,” she chided him in a playful tone. “I was starting to think you’d changed your mind.”

He waded toward her, suddenly forgetting the distance he usually insisted stay between them. “If a beautiful woman asks you to go for a swim, only a fool would refuse.”

“Will Father really be mad when he finds out you didn’t finish those papers?” she asked.

He shrugged, no longer caring about where he should be right now. All he cared about was this woman and how she was making him feel. “No doubt he will be furious, but I’m certain he’d be more furious to learn where I am with his daughter right now.”

She held his gaze. “But we’re just swimming. There’s nothing wrong with that.”

He studied her, unsure if she meant what she was saying. “Surely you know there’s nothing so innocent about a man and woman sneaking away to swim. The assumption would be that any man left alone with a woman of your beauty would be unable to control himself.”

“Yet you seem to have ample control.” She waded toward him, stopping a breath away. “I’ve invited you to swim with me so many times and never once have you touched me inappropriately.”

His hand cupped her cheek, his thumb brushing her lips. “Even you must know every man has their limits.”

She leaned into him, her lips touching his briefly before breaking their embrace. “And have I pushed you to yours?”

Author Info:

Faye Hall spent her early years listening to stories about the families – including her own – who settled townships in and around her hometown in North Queensland, Australia.  The local townspeople, including her own parents, told her stories of corruption and slavery, along with family secrets and forbidden love.

Desperate to remember what she’d been told, along with her already growing love of writing, Faye began to write about the history of her local area.  Never could she have imagined the history of her small home town in Australia would become a growing list of published books.

Faye’s passionate stories combine controversial subjects and provocative encounters as her characters struggle to survive the lifestyle in early rural townships throughout Australia.  She explores slavery and abortion, drug addiction and murder, as well as forbidden love and passionate affairs of the heart.

When she’s not writing, Faye enjoys sharing a bottle of wine with her husband in their ever-growing garden, and encouraging the varied interests of their combined family of nine children.

Deceit & Devotion, Faye Hall

We’ve seen Faye Hall’s work before with Shrouded Passions and this time she’s back with something a little different than what we normally see … and I’m definitely intrigued.

by Faye Hall

Genre(s): Historical Romance / Interracial Romance

“I will pay you to sleep with my wife.”

Jarrah Miyan, a young half-caste aboriginal man, is supposed to seduce a white woman into an affair so her greed-driven husband can gain full control of her inheritance, including the rare collection of black opals she keeps under lock and key. When he walks into the study to meet the poor chit he’s to take advantage of, he expects to find an aging woman who smells of stale perfume and gin. Who he finds though is the most beautiful woman he’s ever laid eyes on—the same woman whose pale thighs had been wrapped around him just a few hours earlier as she’d begged him to give her pleasure.

After their night of passion together, Emily Holtz doubted she would ever see Jarrah again. To have him standing before her now, asking for employment at her cattle station, was not a situation she had prepared herself for. She agrees to hire him on one condition. He has to spy on her husband and get her the incriminating evidence she needs to apply for a divorce. She’s spent years in a miserable arranged marriage, and she’s desperate to escape. But her husband is a dangerous man, and he will stop at nothing, including murder, to get what he wants.

As they begin to develop feelings for each other, Jarrah worries about what will happen when Emily discovers that he’s been working for both her and her husband. Not that they could ever really be together, as society would never accept that.

Excerpt:

Lifting the pillow to his nose, he breathed deep the sweet scent he knew to be Emily’s. His senses instantly responded, his groin aching for the mere touch of her skin against his again.

“My husband and I don’t share a room, Jarrah,” she remarked from the doorway, forcing him to turn around suddenly. “You’ll find no trace of him in here. If you wish to search through his belongings, then you’ll have to go down the hallway.”

“I have already inspected his room,” he replied, placing the pillow neatly back on her

bed.

“Then what are you doing in here?”

He walked toward her, his steps measured. “I want to know who you are. I want to know why a woman as beautiful as you was burdened with a husband who doesn’t love her.” Stopping before her, he lifted his hand to her face, his fingers caressing the soft skin of her cheek. “And I want to know what sort of business requires your attention at such a late hour?”

Emily took a step back from him. “You’ll find none of the answers you seek in this room, Jarrah.”

“Then why don’t you tell me what I want to know, Emily?” Jarrah begged, aching to pull her back to him. “Please.”

He watched the beauty of her face as she smiled slightly at him, and for a moment, he thought she might tell him at least some of her secrets. Slowly, she shook her head.

“You don’t want to hear what I have to tell you,” she said firmly as she went to walk past him and into her room.

His hand came out, gripping her elbow, stopping her. “I want to know where you were tonight,” he said again, more insistent this time.

“Why?” she asked, her stare holding his. “Why would you care how or where I spend my nights?”

He felt as if he were drowning in the greenness of her eyes, a feeling so very unfamiliar to him. How was he to explain to this woman that he did in fact care quite a lot about her whereabouts when he didn’t even understand it himself?

“Because…” He paused, knowing what he was about to admit. Never before had he allowed himself such a familiar feeling toward any woman. He hadn’t intended to now either, but studying Emily’s slightly freckled, pale skin, her brilliant red hair highlighting her exquisite features, Jarrah knew he could no longer deny what he was feeling. Letting out a steadying sigh, he knew he had little choice but to tell her the truth. “I care because I don’t want you visiting other men and luring them into your bed.”

She raised her brow, her expression unfaltering. “And is that where you think I’ve been the last couple of hours? Trying to lure men to come home with me?”

Faye Hall’s passion driven, mystery filled books are set in small townships of North Queensland, Australia during the late 1800’s.

Each of her novels bring something symbolically Australian to her readers, from Aboriginal herbal remedies, to certain gemstones naturally only found in this part of the world.

Each of her books tell of a passionate connection between the hero and heroine, surrounded and threatened by deceit, scandal, theft and sometimes even murder.

These romances swerve from the traditional romances as Faye aims to give her readers so much more intrigue, whilst also revealing the hidden histories of rural townships of North Queensland.

Faye finds her inspiration from the histories of not only the township she grew up in, but the many surrounding it. She also bases most of her characters on people she has met in her life.

Faye was able to live her own passion driven romance, marrying the love of her life after a whirlwind romance in 2013. Together they are raising their 9 children in a remote country town in northern Queensland, Australia.

ShroudedPassions_MediumShrouded Passions

by Faye Hall

Blurb:

It was love at first sight when Devon Munroy first laid eyes on Lotte Higgins as she swam in the local waterhole.  He wanted nothing more than to spend his future with her.  He would have defied his father to do so too had she not been shot, lying bleeding and dying in his arms.

The woman he loved was dead and Devon no longer cared what was to become of his future.

Four years passed and Devon’s life had become little more than a drunken haze.  All he wanted was the woman he loved back in his life and in his bed.  When he reluctantly went to the local Hotel to spend the night with a woman, he didn’t expect her to look so much like Lotte Higgins.  He certainly didn’t expect her to turn up at his estate as his wife’s new handmaiden.

When Lotte started work at Devon’s estate, she thought only to uncover the secrets and reveal the monster who had tried to kill her four years before.  She could never have imagined the whirlwind of passion she would be swept up in with Devon Munroy, the man who still owned her heart.

Lotte knew if she were to succeed in targeting her attempted murderer, she would have to keep her true identity hidden from Devon, never revealing to him that she was in fact the woman he had thought died in his arms all those years ago.  Lotte wanted nothing more than to tell him the truth, but she feared if she did than Devon’s wife, the woman whom had already tried to kill her once, would discover she had survived that night.

When more bodies began turning up around the town, all brutally murdered, Lotte knew she had let things go on long enough.  She would have to tell Devon the truth about his wife and about herself and hope he loved her enough to forgive her deception.

Excerpt:

He walked up behind her, his arms going around her waist and down to the apex of her thighs, his fingers gathering up her skirts searching for the bare flesh beneath.

She struggled against him, finally pulling away freeing herself.

His stare was dark and confused.  “Is my touch no longer welcomed?”

“I am not some whore for you to play with at your will!” she spat at him, her anger obvious.

Slowly he stepped towards her, again closing the distance between them.  “Are you so sure of that, my dear?”

“You bastard!” she cursed at him.  “You would fuck near on anything if you were given half the chance!”

Reaching out to her, he again pulled her to him, her rear pressing into his already strained mound in his trousers.

“I would fuck you…here…now…but it appears my attentions are no longer welcomed.” He whispered near her ear, his breath hot against her face, his hands holding her hips as he ground himself into her suggestively.

Pushing against him, she struggled to again free herself.  He grabbed at her arm, holding her wrist, stopping her escape.

“You son of a bitch!” she spat at him, holding her tears at bay.  “You have fucked your way through your serving staff until there is none left.  You would even fuck that woman…that thing…you share your bed with…the thing you call…”

“My wife.” He finished for her.

He stood there for what seemed hours holding her, studying her.  Finally he let her wrist drop from his hand.

“You should get back to work,” he said steadily, knowing he was not ready for this moment.

She stood there, a single tear falling from her eye.  “You should go back and crawl between your wife’s thighs.”

Stepping towards her, his hands went to her face cupping it, his fingers lacing in her hair, his lips hungrily taking hers.  Walking her backwards, he laid her on the bed behind her, one hand leaving her face to gather up her skirts.  Despite having returned his kiss, she fought against him as he gathered up her skirts.

“Get off me!” she shouted at him, her hands trying to push him away as her feet kicked at him.

Struggling against her, he finally grabbed both of her wrists in his hands, holding them above her head.  Looking down at her, her cheeks flushed, her breasts moving with her ragged breathing – never had he seen her look more beautiful.  And never had a wanted her more.

“If I wanted little more than a quick fuck I would go to the tavern and pay for it.”

“Why not go to your wife?” she asked, her fight calming.

“My wife was a contract, nothing more.  Our parents thought we’d make a profitable match.”

“Yet you will still sleep with her.” she spat at him.

He couldn’t stop his slight smile at her words.  “Until I met you…until you came here…the only woman my body burned for was a girl from my youth…a girl so uninhibited and unconvential…you are so much like her…yet you are so much more as well.”

His words trailed off.

“What happened to her?”

His smile began to fade as reality returned to him.  “I killed her.  There was a struggle…my gun went off…and she died in my arms.”

“If you loved her so much…desired her so much…why did you marry Elizabeth?  Why come to me?”

He let go of her wrists, his hands moving over the swell of her breasts.  His fingers began unbuttoning her blouse.

“Since you have come into my life, I desire no other woman.  You are everything I have ever wanted and more…”

“Your wife…” she reminded him.

“You are the only woman to have touched me since I shot that girl.”  Unbuttoning her blouse, he let the fabric all away from her, revealing the light shift covering her, still hiding her breast from him.

“I have not lain with my wife…ever.”

She tried to stay strong.  “When you can fuck your way through your servants, I suppose why would you?”

His fingers circled her nipples, hardening them, making her reveal her want for him.  “If I wanted to ‘fuck’ you, I would have when I first walked in this room.  I would have bent you over that table you were cleaning until I spilled myself inside you.”

She bit her lip.  “Why didn’t you?”

His fingers stilled, his gaze holding hers.  “I want to give you pleasure.  I want to see your passion.”  He held his breath.  “I want to give you what was taken from me all those years ago.”

“I-If your wife comes in here…if she sees us…” she tried.

He kissed her softly.  “I do not care who sees us.”

“I am not this girl from your past, Devon,” she tried to remind him.

Gathering up her skirts, he revealed her naked thighs to him.  “I know who you are, Lotte…and what.”

He kissed her then, silencing her, his fingers caressing her thigh.

FTC Disclaimer

I have received ARCs of books free from NetGalley (and many moons ago from BookTrib.com) to review but the majority of the stories are either bought by me or provided for free from the publisher, author, or PR company. The opinions I share are my own and in no way are influenced by an author or publisher. There is no promise of a positive review by any party and there is no additional compensation. Unless otherwise noted, I am not affiliated with any contest or other event mentioned on this blog and I do not receive a paid endorsement for any post.
