Rags to Royals

Royals Gone Rogue series

by Erin Nicolle

Blurb:

A small-town single mom like me has no business believing in fairy tales.ย

But the very handsome, charming, dirty-talking prince (yes, seriously) I met nineteen months ago now has his fine ass and panty-melting grin planted on my front porch.

Heโ€™s been searching for me ever since I snuck out after our fantasy-filled weekend together.

And, dammit, thatโ€™s a little romantic.

Now that heโ€™s found me, he wants to pick up where we left off.

Because he thinks heโ€™s in love with me.

Oh, and because he needs to get out of the marriage, his grandfather, the king, has arranged for him.

But heโ€™s in love with an illusion. I lied to him about everything except my first name.

The carefree, adventurous woman he burned up the sheets with for three days is actually a stressed-out mechanic back in my small hometown, raising a sassy fifteen-year-old daughter, and trying to make amends for my mean girl past. I just donโ€™t think my grease-streaked work boots scream princess material.

Of course, he wonโ€™t take no for an answer.ย

Instead, he proposes a deal: I give him nineteen days and let him get to know the real me.

Then heโ€™ll either be over me, go home and marry someone else.

Or Iโ€™ll walk down that aisle.

The thing is, can a girl whoโ€™s made all of my mistakes really go from rags to royal anywhere but in a storybook?

Rags to Royals is a modern royal romance with a feisty single mom, a golden retriever prince who falls first and hard, and lots of delicious dirty talk and spice on the page. It is the third book in the Royals Gone Rogue series, but can be read as a stand-alone.

Review:

There’s just SO much to like about Cian’s story – all the girl power, sweet Cian in love, dirty talking Cian in bed, adorable teenagers, supportive family, the set up to Henry’s story … SO much goodness.

I loved the fact that Cian is the one who won’t give up on Scarlett. That their connection is such that he’s still looking almost two years later and has no plan to give up on her. And once he finds her, he’s throwing everything at her to get her to admit that she feels the same. Giving her all the charm, support, and encouragement she needs to fully embrace herself and to realize that they belong together.

I kinda understand where Scarlett is coming from. It’s a lot, finding out that Cian is a prince and everything that comes with that. She’s got an idea what her life should look like and he definitely doesn’t fit in. But the man isn’t taking no for an answer and before long she’s seeing just how well they fit. And how much he needs her support just as much as she needs his.

There’s a lot of mean girl moments, past and present, but also strength and confidence, believing in yourself & your convictions, and how you can make the world a better place. It’s uplifting and powerful and has me pulling for all of these characters. For Scarlett being a better person, for Mariah standing up for what’s right, and Cian finding where he can make a difference and the support & recognition from those he loves.

Erin has a definite style – one of humor, steam, and emotion. He characters are larger than life, with big hearts and big feels, embracing life & love wholeheartedly and without apology. I’m looking forward to seeing what she has in store for Henry, and hoping Ruby makes him work for her love.

Royals Gone Rogue series

by Erin Nicolle

Blurb:

A marriage proposal from a deliciously handsome and wickedly charming prince sounds like a fairytale.

But for a nerdy scientist with severe social anxiety, itโ€™s a horror story.

Prince Torin Oโ€™Grady, with his mischievous blue eyes and cocky grin, is always in the spotlight. And he needs to marry me to inherit the crown.

But we have nothing in common. Heโ€™s a future king. And Iโ€™m perfectly happy slogging through mud in my work boots.

So why canโ€™t I stop thinking about him?

Maybe because he wonโ€™t stop texting me. And sending me gifts. And making me feel like everything I find awkward and weird about myself is special and amazing.

And thereโ€™s also that little detail of him offering me my dream job and telling me that together we can change the world.

Well, I could probably ๐˜ธ๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ๐˜ฌ for him.

And if I have to marry him ๐˜ต๐˜ฆ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฑ๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ๐˜ข๐˜ณ๐˜ช๐˜ญ๐˜บ to get what we both want, then fine. Itโ€™s for the greater good.

It has nothing to do with the way he kisses me. Or that dirty mouth. Or the ๐˜ณ๐˜ฐ๐˜บ๐˜ข๐˜ญ ๐˜ต๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ๐˜ข๐˜ต๐˜ฎ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฏ๐˜ต  he gives me in the bedroom.

Fine. Maybe it does. Still, itโ€™s only a year. Then I can turn in my tiara and come back to my normal, boring, behind-the-scenes life.

But Torin is determined to turn me from reluctantly royal to royally ๐˜ฉ๐˜ช๐˜ด.ย

Excerpt:

โ€œI want more than dances, Abigail.โ€

She presses her lips together, takes a breath, then asks, โ€œWhat else do you want?โ€

I decide to be honest. โ€œI want to whisk you away on my private plane to an actual palace and give you everything and anything you could ever want or need.โ€

Her eyes widen. โ€œYou donโ€™t even know me.โ€

I tuck my hands into my back pockets. To try to look casual. But also to keep from reaching for her.

โ€œIโ€™ve read all about your work,โ€ I tell her. โ€œI started by just wanting to know about that job you said you hated so much. But then I kept reading. I know all about you.โ€

Sheโ€™s staring at me. Sheโ€™s sitting up straighter now and even in the pale light, I can see her shock.

โ€œYouโ€ฆread about me?โ€

โ€œNot just about you. I read all of your papers. Your work in college. Your dissertation. The articles youโ€™ve published. I even stumbled upon some social media posts.โ€

โ€œIโ€ฆOhโ€ฆโ€ She shakes her head. โ€œI thought you wanted to sleep with me.โ€

I chuckle softly. โ€œOh, Abigail, I most definitely want to sleep with you.โ€

She swallows hard.

โ€œI wanted that before I knew you are a damned genius who could come to my country and revolutionize agriculture and completely overhaul our economy.โ€

I can see that sheโ€™s breathing faster now.

โ€œSo you want to hire me?โ€ she asks. โ€œWhich means we canโ€™t sleep together because youโ€™ll be my boss.โ€

I step up on the first step.

โ€œI donโ€™t want to hire you. But I do want to bring you to Cara to do your work.โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t understand.โ€

I step up onto the next step, but she doesnโ€™t back up. Thereโ€™s only a step between us now. โ€œI want you to marry me.โ€

Her eyes widen. But she says nothing.

โ€œBe my princess,โ€ I go on. โ€œYouโ€™ll have influence and resources. You can do anything and everything youโ€™ve ever wanted to do.โ€

Sheโ€™s staring at me. Then when she realizes Iโ€™m done talking, she laughs.

โ€œMarry you? Is that how things work for you? You just smile that smile, waltz a couple of waltzes, and women just say yes to anything? Even marriage?โ€

Wellโ€ฆ

โ€œIโ€™ve never asked anyone to marry me before, so I donโ€™t really know,โ€ I answer.

Sheโ€™s still smiling. โ€œThank you for the offer. But Iโ€™m not going to marry you.โ€

โ€œAs princess of Cara you can see your plans in action. Right now, theyโ€™re all just on paper. Youโ€™re not actually doing any of it. Donโ€™t you want to see it come to life?โ€

Now sheโ€™s not smiling. Sheโ€™s just watching me. She takes a deep breath. โ€œOf course I do.โ€

โ€œThis is the perfect way. Thereโ€™s no red tape. Nothing between your amazing brain and making it all happen for real.โ€

โ€œWhatโ€™s the catch?โ€

โ€œNo catch. My country needs a prince and princess in place before my grandfather steps aside. The country deserves to know who will be there to step up and take care of them. My grandfather needs a successor in place before his heart gives out.โ€

โ€œHe has a bad heart?โ€ she asks.

โ€œHeโ€™s already had three heart attacks. I really need to get married to give him and the country peace of mind.โ€

โ€œSo youโ€™re serious about finding a wife?โ€

โ€œI am.โ€

She steps down a step.

โ€œAbigail.โ€

โ€œYes?โ€

โ€œIf you step down one more step, Iโ€™m going to kiss you.โ€

She wets her lips.

โ€œSo if you want to just keep talking, you need to keep your sweet ass right there on that step.โ€

She looks down at the step that would start the kissing.

โ€œAnd if you donโ€™t want to keep talkingโ€ฆor anything elseโ€ฆ you need to go back inside.โ€

Sheโ€™s staring at me. But she seems more fascinated than anything. โ€œOkay. I understand.โ€

โ€œGood.โ€

Two heartbeats pass.

Then she steps down onto the step right above mine.

I groan and cup her face, bringing her mouth in against mine.ย

Review:

Pretty sure that there isn’t a better book boyfriend (or husband) than Torin. He’s hot, caring, and intelligent. He listens to Abi, really listens, and does his best to make her world perfect. He supports her and helps her navigate difficult situations. He gives her gifts that actually matter to her and makes sure that ALL of her needs are met *wink, wink, nudge, nudge* ๐Ÿ™‚

Not that Abi doesn’t do what she can to support him in return. She believes in him and helps him embrace his future as a monarch, leading Cara into a delightful future. But no one can do it with the flair that Torin does.

I appreciate that we avoid what could have been a huge conflict towards the end. Instead we are given a satisfying slide into a HEA and a glimpse of a delightful future. Erin has always delivered the heat and the fun, continuing to do so with a new series and a new name, and I’m so looking forward to what she has in store for us next.

(Can be read as a stand alone but there are character appearances and references to previous books.)
