Beauty and the Bayou

Boys of the Bayou #3

by Erin Nicholas

Blurb:

Sawyer Landry knows he’s been beastly to be around for the past few months. But he can’t seem to remember how to be fun-loving and friendly. Until he sees Juliet Dawson on his boat dock… and realizes that hip waders are, apparently, one of his turn-ons. But despite the beauty in the boots, the last thing he needs right now is a city girl in his way for the next two weeks.

But he’s not really getting a vote. Juliet is determined that her little brother rebuild the dock he and his idiot friends smashed. She’s quirky, klutzy, independent…and possibly an even bigger pessimist than Sawyer is. He’s incredibly drawn to the cynical fish-out-of-water, who seems to be the one person who isn’t intimidated by his growling.

The big, gruff boat captain is the first person in a long time to want to watch out for her and Juliet finds that hotter than his grandma’s jambalaya. Well, that and his sexy scar, his emotional baggage, and the sense of humor and fun that is buried deep.

But Sawyer doesn’t need any more people to worry about long-term and the things that make him feel protective of Juliet aren’t going to go away. So, this two-week adventure can’t be anything more than a fling. With Juliet down on the bayou, there’s an even bigger threat than alligators and hurricanes. There’s the very good chance of someone ending up with a broken heart.

Excerpt:

โ€œI guess when we need relief from the heat, we go, you know, into the actual shade.โ€ He looked amused. โ€œAmong other things.โ€

โ€œOther things?โ€

It wasnโ€™t so much that she needed to know other ways to keep cool. But she really liked the way he looked when he was mildly amused. It was a very good look on him.

โ€œLots of water and sweet tea,โ€ he said.

She gave an involuntary shudder.

His amused smile grew. โ€œNo to sweet tea?โ€

โ€œNot my favorite,โ€ she admitted. โ€œBut donโ€™t tell Ellie,โ€ she added quickly.

He chuckled at that. โ€œI would never.โ€

Yeah, the chuckling was nice, too. โ€œIโ€™ve got the water covered though,โ€ she said.

โ€œGood.โ€

โ€œAnything else?โ€

โ€œWell, when we get hot there area couple of other things we do,โ€ he said.

Had he moved closer?

Juliet swallowed. โ€œLike what?โ€

โ€œWe take clothes off,โ€ he said.

Yeah, his voice was definitely deeper now.

โ€œI gueโ€”โ€ She cleared her throat. โ€œI guess that makes sense, but there are bugs and sunburn to consider.โ€

He gave her a nod. โ€œSunscreen and bug repellent are important. Cora makes bug repellent thatโ€™s amazing.โ€

Huh. Homemade bug repellent. She might have to give that a try. These people intrigued her, she had to admit. โ€œWhat about the flying debris?โ€

Sawyer glanced at the boards behind her. โ€œYeah, well, I guess we do take some risks down here.โ€

Ah, ha. โ€œIโ€™d rather be a little hot than dealing with an infection from a piece of wood imbedding itself in my skin and muscle tissue.โ€

Sawyer paused, then shook his head, almost disbelievingly. โ€œOkay, girl. Then that only leaves one other thing to do when you get too hot.โ€

โ€œWhatโ€™s that?โ€

โ€œSwimming.โ€

For a moment, looking into Sawyer Landryโ€™s eyes, for the first time since sheโ€™d been ten years old, Juliet wanted to take her clothes off and jump into a body of water.

That lasted about twelve seconds. But that was twelve seconds longer than sheโ€™d considered doing it to that point.

โ€œI donโ€™t have a swimming suit.โ€

โ€œYou donโ€™t need one. The fewer clothes the cooler you get.โ€

โ€œSkinny-dipping?โ€ she asked.

โ€œSkinny-dipping,โ€ he confirmed.

โ€œYou actually skinny-dip?โ€ she asked.

โ€œOf course.โ€

Sawyer Landry naked.

She just took a few seconds to relish that thoughtโ€ฆand the images that went with it. Skinny-dipping with Sawyer might be the one way she would ever even possibly consider any of that. โ€œDo you have a private pool with lots of chlorine and a maximum depth of three feet?โ€ she asked.

She wondered if being naked but with a life jacket on still counted as skinny-dipping.

โ€œDonโ€™t need a pool when Iโ€™ve got a whole bayou in my backyard.โ€

She shuddered. โ€œThere is no way Iโ€™m jumping in there. Clothes or not.โ€

โ€œSo, the naked part of skinny-dipping isnโ€™t the problem?โ€ Sawyer asked. โ€œItโ€™s the water?โ€

โ€œItโ€™s absolutely the water,โ€ she said. It was actually all water, but water where she could see the bottom, touchthe bottom, and that was pumped through a filtration system was tolerable. Maybe. For a short period. With plenty of floatation devices within reach. โ€œI mean, other than just the dirt, there are snakes and alligators and fishโ€ฆand fish and alligator poopin there.โ€ She frowned. โ€œDo snakes poop? I mean, they probably do, right?โ€

Sawyer blinked at her. โ€œIโ€™ve never really thought about it.โ€

She nodded. โ€œThey almost have to. And they probably do it in that water, too.โ€ She shuddered again. โ€œNo, thank you. There are just places I do notneed dirty bayou water.โ€

โ€œItโ€™s the poop thatโ€™s keeping you from skinny-dippinโ€™?โ€ Sawyer asked, clearly trying not to laugh. โ€œYou are really thinking about the wrong thing when it comes to beinโ€™ wet and naked, darlinโ€™.โ€

Excerpt:

Lexi could feel Calebโ€™s breath on her lips, and his bunched muscles under her palm were hot and hard. She stared at his mouth. He stared at hers. And she decided that if he wasnโ€™t going to look at her breasts, looking at her mouth like he was starving and she was a grilled BLTโ€”his favorite food in the worldโ€”was just fine with her.

Being compared, even in her own head, to a grilled BLT might not seem sexy, but in her mind, it so was. Caleb devoured those sandwiches. Heโ€™d do almost anything for one. He made sexy moaning sounds when he first tasted them. And heโ€™d proclaimed that hers were the best heโ€™d ever tasted. Yeah, put that way, along with the schnapps still coating her brain, it was strangely sexy.

โ€œCaleb.โ€

She watched his pupils dilate and his jaw clench.

Her hand went to the front of his shirt and she bunched it in her fists, watching his eyes. He didnโ€™t try to stop her. Then she tugged, urging him forward.

And he came, the hand next to her hip pressing into the mattress as she tipped her head to one side. Their lips touched. Softly. Briefly. But she felt it all the way to her bones. Heat, want, relief. She suddenly had to have more. She made a little almost-a-sob sound and licked her tongue along his lower lip.

โ€œLex.โ€

Her name was more of a groan than a word. It was the sexiest thing sheโ€™d ever heard.

โ€œCaleb,โ€she breathed.

Then the next groan became the sexiest thing sheโ€™d ever heard. It was a combination of hunger and resignation, and she felt like heโ€™d just set her nerve endings on fire.

Suddenly, Calebโ€™s hand came up to cup the back of her head, his fingers diving into her hair. And he took over.

His mouth opened over hers and his tongue stroked deep and hot. Every glide of his tongue felt as though he was running a finger over her clit. Some were firmer, some softer, some longer, some shorter, and her need ratcheted up with each one.

She ran her hands over his chest to his shoulders and up the sides of his neck, loving the hard muscles and the heat under her palms. Then she slid her hands down his sides to the bottom of his shirt. She slipped her hands underneath, moaning as she met hot, bare skin. He sucked in a quick breath and she smiled against his lips, loving having an effect on him.

And suddenly she was on her back and Caleb was moving over her. Her hands slid to his back, the muscles there bunching as he braced himself above her, still kissing her like it was his job. Instinctively, she slid her legs apart and he settled between them. The comforter was between them, but she felt him hard and hot and deliciously heavy against her. The feel of his cock pressed against her made her ache. Sheโ€™d done that to him. Sheโ€™d made him hard.

Hallelujah.

Book Review, Boys of the Big Easy series, Erin Nicholas, Going Down Easy

I’m so thrilled to have Erin Nicholas stop by today to share a little about her newest book.ย  I’ve read it and I think it’s fantabulous!

*****

Wooing a Woman: New Orleans Edition with Erin Nicholas

My newest book,ย Going Down Easy,ย is a hot, contemporary romance set in one of the sexiest cities in the country: New Orleans. Iโ€™ve loved New Orleans since my first visit there in 2011 and have been backย multipleย times. I fall more in love with the place every time Iโ€™m there. Thereโ€™s just something about the city that I canโ€™t explain but that keeps me coming back. The music, the history, the laid-back attitude, the foodโ€ฆthereโ€™s just so much to love. So finally, the right characters and stories came along and it was time to write a series set there. Here’s a little bit about my characters and book…

Gabe Trahan: dirty-talking, charming, and a little bit sweet bar owner in the French Quarter. Has lots of friends and close to his family. Has a slow, sexy drawl, panty-melting grin. And a son, Cooper, who is five years old.

Addison Sloan: restoration architect who comes to New Orleans from New York City once a month to consult on a new project with a local firm. Confident, independent (very), smart, sassy. Loves dirty-talk in a slow Louisiana drawl. And jazz. And beignets. And pralines. And pretty much anything related to New Orleans. Sheโ€™s also a single mom to five-year-old Stella.

How they meet: Addison comes into Gabeโ€™s bar with a friend. The chemistry is immediate. And Addisonโ€™s love for New Orleans is obvious. Even the mention of beignets makes her eyes sparkle, she melts when she hears jazz, she loves the cafรฉ au lait, the horse-drawn carriagesโ€”just everything. Gabeโ€™s never been much of a romantic, but suddenly he wants to get that sexy, sweet look on her face as often as possible. (You can actually read all about this in “Easy Going”, the prequel novella! Check out Goodreads to find it ๐Ÿ™‚

So whenever Addison is in town they go to jazz clubs, eat all the traditional New Orleans dishesโ€”gumbo, crawfish, pralinesโ€”and they take in everything about the city. And Addison gives him a new appreciation for his home town. Though, their favorite place is definitely the balcony on the apartment above Gabeโ€™s bar. For lots of reasons ๐Ÿ˜‰ (Did I mention the prequel novella? “Easy Going”. Goodreads).

Then, everything changes. Addison is moving to New Orleans to take a permanent job with the firmโ€ฆand she has no time or energy or interest in a full-blown, all-the-time, same-city relationship.

But Gabeโ€™s not giving up.

He has every intention of using Addisonโ€™s weakness for New Orleans and the south โ€œagainstโ€ her in a huge play for her heart. So how does he do it? Read on for hero Gabe Trahan’s Seven EASY(ish) Steps To Woo A Woman in New Orleans:

Step #1

Start off with reminding her of the sweet stuff about being with you in New Orleans. Send a basket of pralines and Magnolias. Be romantic. Do not mention dirty stuff on the card. Probably.ย

Step #2

Turn up the heat. Send her some beignets and an extra bag of powdered sugar to remind her of the night on your balcony where lots of other things ended up with sugar on them. Maybe mention the dirty stuff on the card now. Or again.

Step #3

Invite her on a horse-drawn carriage ride around the Quarter. Make it impossible for her to say no by sending the invite with a bottle of Pimmโ€™s No. 1 and tell her that thereโ€™s going to be a parade at the end. She canโ€™t resist a parade.

Step #4

Have your mutual friends suggest a night out on the town to her and then surprise her by joining them at Preservation Hall for the jazz show. Make sure you show up just before it starts. Thereโ€™s no way sheโ€™ll yell at you when she can be listening to jazz. Sheโ€™ll very likely let you stand really close and wrap your arms around her like youโ€™ve done all the other times sheโ€™s heard a jazz trumpet. You can say some dirty things in her ear here. For sure.

Step #5

A few days later, send her a book about alligators. Make sure itโ€™s something her five-year-old daughter will be interested in. A coloring book with alligator trivia would be perfect. Insert a brochure for a swamp boat tour in the book. Text her the next day and suggest you all go on the swamp boat tour together.

Step #6

After a day in the sun on the bayou with your kids, invite her to a masquerade ball. Be sure to mention itโ€™s at a plantation. And that she gets to wear a ball gown. And a mask, of course. And that there will be mint juleps. Sheโ€™ll be putty in your hands. This is your chance to do a few dirty things.

Step #7

In the end, even if some of the other stuff has failed, use the Ace up your sleeve. Show up on her doorstep with a pot of your grandmaโ€™s gumbo and tell her that youโ€™re madly in love with her and that if sheโ€™ll let you in, sheโ€™ll be able to have that gumbo regularly for the rest of her life. No one can say no to grandmaโ€™s gumbo.

Going Down Easy

Boys of the Big Easy #1

by Erin Nicholas

Release Date: August 28, 2018

Publisher: Montlake Romance

Blurb:

As far as flings go, single dad Gabe Trahan is pretty sure that Addison Sloan is his best bet. Once a month, Addison comes to New Orleans and thenโ€ฆIt. Is. On. Until Addison returns to New York, itโ€™s just hot, happily-no-strings-attached sex. And beignets. And jazz. But lately for Gabe, it isnโ€™t nearly enough.

Sure, maybe Addisonโ€™s gotten a bit hooked on Gabe. After all, who can resist a guy whoโ€™s so sexy, so charming, and soโ€ฆavailable? But maybe heโ€™s too available for her right now. Addisonโ€™s just moved to New Orleans, and relationships are definitely off the table. Besides, guys always bail when they learn her secret: sheโ€™s a single mom.

Only Gabeโ€™s not running. Worse, heโ€™s thrilled. But Addison never signed up for ever-after romance, and Gabe wonโ€™t settle for anything less. Now itโ€™s a battle of willsโ€”and when it comes to the woman heโ€™s falling for, Gabe isnโ€™t above playing a little dirty.

Excerpt:

Gabe had sent her flowers.

Addison stood staring at the gigantic bouquet of white flowers sitting on the desk she was using for the day.

โ€œThese are magnolias, right?โ€ she asked Elena.

โ€œThey are. The state flower of Louisiana.โ€ Elena stroked the petal of one of the gorgeous flowers. โ€œSomeone knows your weakness for all things New Orleans.โ€

He definitely did. Addison hadnโ€™t even needed to read the card to know who the flowers were from. Gabe knew she was a sucker for anything that was traditionally associated with the city. Beignets, bourbon, masks, beads, gas lanterns, and balconies with looping wrought iron railings. For six months heโ€™d been taking her out on the Sunday she was in town and letting her soak up the city. And now sheโ€™d gone from associating those things with New Orleans and the unique spirit of the city to associating them with him.

But why was he sending her flowers? That was new. So far, their routine was she showed up at the bar on Saturday night, they spent the weekend together, she left on Monday morning, and then thirty days later, they repeated it all over again. There was no contact in between times. No texts or callsโ€”they didnโ€™t have each otherโ€™s number. No letters or giftsโ€”he didnโ€™t have her address. And definitely no flowers.

โ€œSee you soon, Gabe,โ€ Elena read from the card. She lifted her eyes, meeting Addisonโ€™s. โ€œGabe? Whoโ€™s Gabe?โ€ Then her eyes widened. โ€œWait. These arenโ€™t from Gabeย Trahan, are they?โ€

Oh, crap. Addison took a deep breath, thought briefly about lying, and then realized there was no real reason to not tell her friend the truth. โ€œYes.โ€

Elenaโ€™s eyes widened, almost as if she hadnโ€™t expected that answer. โ€œReally? Youโ€™ve seen him since that first night?โ€

Addison rounded the desk and set the folder she was carrying on top of the nearest stack, straightening the pile of already straight files. โ€œYes,โ€ she said simply. The fewer details she offered, the better, probably.

โ€œWhen?โ€ Elena asked. โ€œI had no idea youโ€™d seen him again.โ€

And then it hit Addison . . . Elena wasnโ€™t just her friend anymore. She was Addisonโ€™s boss. Was this going to reflect badly on her? Was a just-when-she-was-in-town affair something Elena would frown upon?

โ€œI didnโ€™t think it was important to mention. We just . . . went out a couple of times.โ€ They had. Theyโ€™d gone out to Preservation Hall for jazz. Theyโ€™d gone to Cafรฉ du Monde for coffee and beignets. Theyโ€™d gone to the French Market. Theyโ€™d gone to Gabeโ€™s bedroom. And his shower. And his kitchen table. And his balcony . . .

โ€œYouโ€™reย datingย Gabe Trahan?โ€ Elena asked, planting her hands on her hips.

โ€œNo,โ€ Addison said quickly. โ€œNot dating. Weโ€™ve had . . . drinks when Iโ€™ve been in town.โ€ And many, many orgasms. And laughs. And fun.

โ€œWhich time?โ€ Elena asked.

โ€œWhich time what?โ€

โ€œWhich time that you were in town did you have drinks?โ€

Addison sighed. โ€œEach time.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™ve seen himย everyย time youโ€™ve been in town since you met him?โ€ Elena asked, clearly shocked.

โ€œYes. But,โ€ Addison added before Elena could go on, โ€œitโ€™s nothing serious. Itโ€™s been . . . a fling. Just a little fun. No big deal. Andโ€โ€”she took a deep breathโ€”โ€œthis weekend was the last time. Now that Iโ€™ve moved here, I wonโ€™t be seeing him anymore.โ€

Saying it out loud made her heart clench even harder than it had when sheโ€™d driven away from him that morning.

*****

Review:

I just love how realistic this story was – not too much melodrama, just believable issues around people trying to mesh their lives.ย  Gabe and Addison have different approaches to a lot in their lives but they are differences that could mesh together very well.ย  If only they’d let them ๐Ÿ™‚

Both are appealing – Gabe a little more so because Addison can be a big prickly but once you understand her it is so easy to see why.ย  Together they do a good job of propping each other up when they need it and that’s pretty much what any of us could hope for in a relationship I think.

Their issues are believable and they handle them rationally, with a good deal of understanding.ย  I appreciate how nothing gets blown out of proportion.ย  Instead everything is addressed in a very satisfying manner, so that by the end you are delighted with the fact that they could figure out their HEA like a couple of adults.

Sexy, charming, real and fun,ย Going Down Easyย showcases why Nicholas is a bestselling author.ย  If you are looking for real and touching and hot, this should definitely be your next read!

Excerpt:

Finn would have noticed her even if she hadnโ€™t been wearing hot-pink lingerie. And nothing else.

He really would have. She was totally his typeโ€”brunette and curvy and, apparently, a little crazy. As evidenced by the fact that she was trying to sneak into a burning building. He did seem to be attracted to crazy. No matter how hard he tried not to be.

He watched the woman stop at the east corner of the Birch Community Playhouse, the one farthest from where the firefighters were working. Then he frowned as she slipped into the shadows along the side of the theater and out of sight.

Dammit. He started after her.

As one of the cops on scene, he had to keep the area clear for the firefighters and keep the crowd of onlookers safe. If one of them happened to have a great body and be dressed in nothing but a pink bra-and-panty set, well, heโ€™d just call that a perk. And as he jogged across the street, Finn couldnโ€™t help but wonder if she was in costume or if the alarm had caught her in the midst of a wardrobe change. If that was her outfit for the show, he might need to buy a ticket.

He turned the corner to the back of the building and looked around. He didnโ€™t see her. Sheโ€™d gone inside. Dammit. He climbed up the four steps that led to the back door of the theater.

Finn touched the door and found it cool. It seemed that the flames were still contained to the wall on the other end of the theater, but it was a mistake to assume anything when fire was involved.

He stepped inside and pulled the flashlight from his belt, then shone it back and forth. He turned a full circle, not sure where to go next. Just then Finn heard a door slam somewhere behind him. He swung toward the sound just in time to see the woman step out from a room.

Her eyes went wide when she saw him.

โ€œBoston PD! Stop!โ€ Finn shouted.

She had covered up. Kind of. She now wore a robe, short, sheer, and unbelted. Which really did nothing to cover his view of her panties and bra. Or all that skin.

And maybe that was why she suddenly took off at a run.

Finn stared after her for a moment, a little stunned. She was actually running from him?

The woman made it to the other end of the lobby and through one of the doors leading into the main theater before Finn got to her. He grabbed the door as it was swinging shut, nearly smashing his fingers. The lights were off in the inner theater but, as he plunged into the darkness, he got a big whiff of whatever body spray or perfume she wore. He took a deep breath. It was nice. Lemony. Sweet andโ€ฆ

Jesus. Finn scowled and turned his flashlight back on. He was thinking about how she smelled? How about the smell of smoke that was going to be chasing them both pretty soon?

โ€œHey!โ€ he called into the theater. You have to come out, maโ€™am. Itโ€™s not safe for you to stay in the building.โ€

โ€œJust give me a damned minute!โ€ she shouted.

โ€œIโ€™m sorry, maโ€™am, I canโ€™t do that,โ€ Finn said.

โ€œI have to find something. Then Iโ€™m coming right out.โ€

โ€œMaโ€™am, I will have to remove you myself if you donโ€™t come out immediately.โ€

โ€œOh, for fuckโ€™s sake!โ€ he heard her exclaim.

โ€œMaโ€™am, this is your last warning. Stop what youโ€™re doing and come with me.โ€

Enough of this. Finn stalked over to her, put a hand around her upper arm, and turned to remove her from the building.

She dug her heels in, though, pulling against his hold. โ€œHey, you canโ€™tโ€”โ€

โ€œOh, yes I can,โ€ he told her calmly, careful to keep his eyes off her body. The heat from her skin had immediately soaked through the thin robe, and Finn felt it traveling from his palm up his arm. โ€œIโ€™ve given you several opportunities to cooperate.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re arresting me?โ€ she asked.

โ€œAre you doing something that you need to be arrested for?โ€ he asked, moving her toward the door, even with her resisting.

โ€œNo! I need to get something. Itโ€™s very important. It belongs to a friend of mine. Itโ€™s irreplaceable.โ€

โ€œMaโ€™am,โ€ he said calmly, โ€œdonโ€™t make me carry you out of here.โ€

She pulled against his grip and leaned all her weight into fighting the forward motion across the room.

Well, shit. Heโ€™d kind of figured it would come to this, but he wasnโ€™t sure he was ready to touch her more. Still, it didnโ€™t look as if he had a lot of choice. Reminding himself that he was a professional, he bent and hooked an arm behind her knees, looped the other around her back, and lifted her.

She gasped, and for a moment she didnโ€™t fight. And he thought maybe the hard part was over. But as he headed out the door, trying to ignore how warm and soft and fucking lemony she was, she started to wiggle.

Forever Mine

Opposites Attract series

by Erin Nicholas

Maya Goodwin doesn’t believe in holding back. Ever. As a cop, she never hesitated to throw herself into harm’s way to save someone. Even after an injury on the job forces her to retire, she’s not afraid to keep risking it all to get the life she wants. With a new career teaching martial arts to kids already underway, she’s looking forward to the future – and taking a chance on the unbelievably hot Dr. Alex Nolan.

Maya – daring and spontaneous – is the exact opposite of what Alex always thought he wanted. But when a nine-year-old daughter he never knew existed shows up on his doorstep, Maya is the one who helps them hold it together. With love on the line, will the guy who’s always played it safe be willing to take the biggest risk of all?

I love the heroines and heroes in this series.ย  The women are fun and sexy and a whole lot geeky.ย  Itโ€™s so refreshing to see them actually be so into their particular thing and own it ย ๐Ÿ™‚ ย And Nicholas does a fabulous job of giving them heroes who can actually appreciate them.

Maya is totally kick ass โ€“ sheโ€™s great with kids, strong & athletic, creative & fun โ€ฆ her only problem is that she doesnโ€™t acknowledge limitations.ย  And unfortunately Alex is a hemophiliac, which means that heโ€™s learned to be cautious.ย  Itโ€™s not stopped him from living his life, which is so admirable, but he canโ€™t quite throw himself into things with the same enthusiasm that Maya does.

Life has also taught Alex to keep his condition to himself, which you can bet will cause some trouble between the two of them.ย  He spends a lot of time keeping his secrets and trying to separate the different parts of his life.ย  Unfortunately Mayaโ€™s go-for-it attitude doesnโ€™t play by those rules ย ๐Ÿ™‚ ย  They will need some good communication and understanding to be able to figure out a place in the middle that will work for both of them.ย  But no one should underestimate Maya โ€“ that girls a fighter when things are important.

Entertaining and full of heart, Forever Mine helps cement Nicholas as a must-read author of charming contemporary romances.

(Characters will continue to reappear in each story, since they are such close friends, but it looks like each will stand on its own.)

Opposites Attract #1

by Erin Nicholas

Kiera Connelly leads a quiet life, and that’s just how she likes it. She’s built a name as a graphic designer and meets up with her friends online, all from the comfort of her living room couch. But when a rare outing turns disastrous, Kiera finds herself up close and way too personal with an unbelievably hot real-life hero.

Zach Ashley doesn’t see himself as a hero. He’s just a regular guy who gets to help people every day as an EMT. But when he’s called to a scene and has to treat his most gorgeous patient ever, he finds himself mixing work with pleasure. He never hesitates to put his life on the line…but will he ever risk his heart?

I think the blurb, for me, made Kiera out to be a little more โ€ฆ of a shut-in, I guess, than she actually is.ย  I expected her to be one of those people that is afraid to go outside, avoids all social interactions, only has online friends, food is delivered, doesnโ€™t do anything except spend time on the computer, more extreme things.ย  But sheโ€™s actually very well adjusted.ย  She has her issues with getting too involved in other peopleโ€™s lives, stemming from the way she grew up & a broken heart/trust, but she has friends and activities.ย  She just has a job that has her working at home, with odd hours, and she geeks out about certain things.ย  Sheโ€™s got her peculiarities but sheโ€™s not that weird.

Zach is one of those all around good guys.ย  I mean, come on, the man saves lives for a living!ย  Heโ€™s gorgeous, athletic, smart and charming.ย  But that doesnโ€™t mean his life is problem free.ย  Heโ€™s got some hang-ups of his own โ€“ needing to fix everyoneโ€™s problems & be the hero is at the top of the list.ย  Itโ€™s not a bad thing to want to help but he also has to realize that he canโ€™t do everything for everyone.

Throw together a woman who separates herself from otherโ€™s problems and a guy who gets too involved, add in some sparks and humor and great supporting characters, and things are guaranteed to get messy.ย  But these two are also going to learn and grow on their way to falling in love.ย  Itโ€™s fun, quirky and touching.ย  Nicholas definitely has a good chance at a winner with this new series!

Book Review, Erin Nicholas, Getting Out of Hand, Sapphire Falls series

Sapphire Falls, Book One

byย Erin Nicholas

Genius scientist Mason Riley can cure world hunger, impress the media and piss off the Vice President of the United States all before breakfast. But he’s not sure he can get through his high school class reunion.

Then he meets the new girl in town.

Adrianne Scott loves Sapphire Falls. The sleepy little town has been the perfect place to escape her fast-paced, high stress lifestyle. Her only plans now include opening her candy shop and living a quiet, drama-free life.

Until Mason Riley bids four hundred dollars just to dance with her.

Mason sure doesn’t look–or kiss–like a genius scientist geek. In fact, he makes Adrianne’s heart pound like nothing she’s ever experienced. Passion like this with a guy who travels the world and parties at the White House should probably be a red flag for a girl who wants a simple boring life.

Good thing no one falls in love in a weekend.

WARNING: read only if you don’t mind some naughty words, sexy times described in great detail, humor, small town quirkiness, meddling best friends, mud in the kitchen, references to bisexuality, oh and talk about candy… and that’s not a euphemism for anything… actual candy.

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this book.ย  I found it for free on Amazon and even though I should have been reading other books in my TBR pile, I was drawn to it.ย  I love the idea of the quirky hero and the woman who really understands him.ย  Itโ€™s sweet and fun and totally made me happy.

The characters are addictive and easily made their way into my heart.ย  I rooted for them from the first page and anxiously waited for them to get to their HEA.ย  Mason is too smart for his own good, which makes him a bit weird to most people.ย  But for someone who appreciates his big โ€ฆ brain, heโ€™s just perfect.

And Adrianne is that person.ย  Sheโ€™s smart and caring and loves her new town.ย  The people in it and the slower pace it can give her.ย  The fact that she truly appreciates all those things that make Mason who he is just makes her extra appealing, to him and to us.

There are so many ways that the strife could have happened between the two of them, but I really love how Nichols made her characters smarter than that.ย  Their difficulties (and how they handled them) werenโ€™t cliched and that made their story all the more enjoyable.
