One Christmas Wish

A Catalina Cove Novel

by Brenda Jackson

ISBN: 9781335201980

Publication Date: October 26, 2021

Publisher: HQN Books

Blurb:

Itโ€™s Christmas in Catalina Cove, a time of promise and second chances. But when youโ€™re starting over, love is the last thing youโ€™re wishing forโ€ฆ

Vaughn Millerโ€™s Wall Street career was abruptly ended by a wrongful conviction and two years in prison. Since then, heโ€™s returned to his hometown, kept his head down and forged a way forward. When he is exonerated and his name cleared, he feels he can hold his head up once again, maybe even talk to the beautiful cafรฉ owner who sets his blood to simmering.

Sierra Crane escaped a disastrous marriageโ€”barely. She and her six-year-old goddaughter have returned to the only place that feels like home. Determined to make it on her own, Sierra opens a soup cafรฉ. Complication is the last thing she needs, but the moment Vaughn walks into her cafรฉ, she canโ€™t keep her eyes off the smoldering loner.

When they give in to their attraction, what Sierra thought would be a onetime thing becomes so much more. Vaughn knows sheโ€™s the one. Sierra canโ€™t deny the way Vaughn makes her feel, but sheโ€™s been burned before. With Christmas approaching, Vaughn takes a chance to prove his love, and it will be up to Sierra to decide if her one Christmas wishโ€”true happinessโ€”will come true.

Excerpt:

1

SIERRA CRANE CRINGED every time her ex-husband called. Their marriage had ended almost two years ago, so why couldnโ€™t he get on with his life the way she had gotten on with hers? She hadnโ€™t heard from him since the divorce and now this was the second phone call in a month.

And why did he always manage to call her at the worst time? The dinner crowd was arriving at her soup cafรฉ, the Green Fig, and she was short a waitress tonight. The last thing she needed to be doing was talking on the phone to her ex.

โ€œWhat is it now, Nathan?โ€ she asked, trying to keep her voice low to avoid being overheard by the customers coming in.

โ€œYou know what I want, Sierra. We rushed into our divorce and I want a reconciliation. We didnโ€™t even seek counseling.โ€

She rolled her eyes. It wasnโ€™t as if counseling would have helped their marriage. She had put up with things for as long as she could, and had to remove herself from that toxic environment. His infidelity had been the last straw, and then there had been his total lack of sensitivity when her best friend Rhonda Andrews was dying.

โ€œWhy are we even discussing this, Nathan? You know as well as I do that no amount of counseling would have helped our marriage. You betrayed me. I caught you in the act. Look, Iโ€™m busy,โ€ she said when she saw customers waiting to be seated. โ€œAnd do me a favor and donโ€™t call back. Our divorce is final, and I intend for it to stay that way. Goodbye.โ€ She clicked off the phone and, for good measure, she blocked his number.

Moving from behind the counter, she assisted her staff in seating customers and taking orders. It was an hour later when the dinner rush had ended that she found the time to go into her office and work on tomorrowโ€™s menu. The monitor screen on her desk was connected to a video camera showing the perimeters of the dining area. If she was needed to assist her staff again, she would know it.

She sat in the chair behind her desk thinking about Nathanโ€™s call. The nerve of him thinking they could get back together. Not only had he cheated on her but he had resented all the trips sheโ€™d taken from Chicago to Houston to spend time with Rhonda in her final days. It hadnโ€™t mattered to him that Rhonda was terminally ill and there had been so much to do and so little time left.

The main focus had been the well-being of Rhondaโ€™s four-year-old daughter, Teryn, whoโ€™d lost her father two years earlier in Afghanistan. Without family on both sides, Sierra was Terynโ€™s godmother and Rhonda had made Sierra promise to take care of Teryn when the time came. Nathan, whoโ€™d never wanted children, had been resentful of that, too.

It had been one of those weekends sheโ€™d visited Rhonda in Houston and sheโ€™d returned home early to find another couple, namely her neighbors, in bed with her husband. Thatโ€™s when sheโ€™d found out about his swinging lifestyle. Heโ€™d confessed it was something he had tried during his college days but thought he had put behind him…until he had discovered their new neighbors had enjoyed doing that sort of thing.

When Sierra had filed for divorce, Nathan assumed if he kept sending her flowers, calling her all the time, and showing up unexpectedly at her new residence with chocolates, designer purses and jewelry, he could wear down her resistance and she would call off the divorce. He finally saw that wasnโ€™t happening.

An hour later Sierra left her office to return to the dining area. It was time for her only waitress on the floor tonight to take her break. Sierra had just stepped behind the counter when the sound of the bell above the door alerted her that she had a customer.

The Green Fig, which served lunch and dinner Mondays through Fridays, had been open for business for only a year. The restaurant closed every night at eight. Most of her customers were locals whoโ€™d known her grandmother and were happy that Ella Crane had passed her delicious soup recipes on to her granddaughter.

Sierra had a good staff. Sheโ€™d hired Emma, whoโ€™d been a friend of her motherโ€™s for years, as head cook and Maxine, whoโ€™d graduated from the New Orleans cooking school last year, as Emmaโ€™s assistant. Normally there were two waitresses, Iris and Opal, who handled the dining room, and Sherri took care of the take-out orders. On any given day there were more take-out orders than sit-down orders, especially during lunch.

Sheโ€™d hired Levi Canady as the assistant manager. An ex-cop whoโ€™d retired early from the force due to an injury, he was also a good friend of Sierraโ€™s father from their elementary school days. Levi was a godsend and would take over for Sierra whenever Teryn came home from school. He managed the restaurant every night except on Wednesdays. He also opened and closed for her on Saturdays, when the restaurant was open only for lunch. Whenever Teryn had gymnastics practice Sierra would help out in the cafรฉ until she got home. Today was one of those days.

Sierra glanced at the door and saw Vaughn Miller walk in, dressed in a business suit. On any other man the outfit would probably look like just regular professional attire, but on him it appeared tailor-made. He was a very handsome man and looking good in anything he wore was just part of who he was.

Sierra didnโ€™t know Vaughn personally, although they had both been born in Catalina Cove and had attended the same schools. She hadnโ€™t had the right pedigree to be in his social circles since his family had been one of the wealthiest in town. They had come from old money, probably as old as it could get in the cove when you were a descendant of the townโ€™s founder.

When Vaughn Miller took a seat at one of the booths, she grabbed a menu out of the rack and headed to his table. Heโ€™d come in once or twice before, but it had always been for takeout. It appeared that today he intended to dine in.

โ€œWelcome to the Green Fig.โ€

He looked up when she handed him the menu. โ€œThanks.โ€

This was the closest she had ever been to Vaughn Miller and she couldnโ€™t help noticing things she hadnโ€™t seen from a distance. Like the beautiful hazel coloring of his eyes. He had sharp cheekbones and she liked the way his nose was the perfect size for his face and the full lips beneath it. And speaking of lips…did his have to be of such sensual perfection? And then she couldnโ€™t miss the light beard that covered his lower jaw and how it enhanced those lips but didnโ€™t hide the dimple in his chin.

Vaughnโ€™s skin was a maple brown and he wore his thick black hair long. It wasnโ€™t down past his shoulders like Kaegan Chambrayโ€™s, but it was long enough to touch his collar. To her the long and tousled hairstyle did much to highlight his French Creole ancestry.

The Creoles derived from free people of color from Africa, France and Spain, as well as other mixed-heritage descendants. Those blended races and cultures were a large population of Louisiana, and more specifically, New Orleans, Catalina Cove and other surrounding cities.

Sierra had to concur with the feminine whispers around town that Vaughn Miller was a very handsome man and a sharp dresser, yet she noted he had a definite rugged masculine appeal. Even dressed nicely in a suit, all you had to do was add a tricorne hat on his head and a loop earring in his ear and he would instantly become a dashing pirate. A look that no doubt would make his great-great-great-great-grandfather, the coveโ€™s founder, Jean Lafitte, proud.

She knew six years ago heโ€™d been sent to prison for a crime he didnโ€™t commit. Three months ago, articles appeared in numerous newspapers reporting on his exoneration and how those who were guilty had been brought to justice. He had been cleared of all charges.

โ€œWhatโ€™s the special for today?โ€

She blinked upon realizing sheโ€™d been standing there staring at him the entire time. Clearing her throat, she said, โ€œTodayโ€™s special is the broccoli and cheese soup and itโ€™s served with a half sandwich. Turkey or chicken.โ€

He smiled up at her and that smile made his features even more beguiling and clearly showed that dimple in his chin. โ€œThat sounds good. Iโ€™d like a bowl with a chicken sandwich.โ€

She wrote his order down on the pad and noticed his French accent. She recalled overhearing her parents say that his mother had been French and his father mixed French and African American, and that French had been the primary language spoken in the Miller household. She also remembered hearing while growing up he would spend his summers in France as well with his grandparents. That was probably the reason the accent was still strong after all this time.

โ€œWhat would you like to drink?โ€

โ€œBrown ale.โ€

Sierra nodded. โ€œOkay, Iโ€™ll put in your order and get your ale.โ€

โ€œThanks.โ€

She turned and walked toward the kitchen. When she knew she was out of his sight and that of customers and staff, she fanned herself with the menu. Vaughn Miller had definitely made every hormone in her body sizzle.

Excerpt:

Two days later, Cash flew his Cessna to the Laramie Regional Airport. Heโ€™d ordered a rental car to be there when he arrived, and it was. Shifting his cell phone to the other ear, he tossed his overnight bag in the back seat as he continued his conversation with his sister, Charm. She was calling from Australia with her condolences.ย

Charm had tagged along with Garthโ€™s best friend, Walker Rafferty, and his wife, Bailey, on a trip to visit Baileyโ€™s sister, Gemma, who lived in Australia.ย

โ€œThanks, Charm, but you know the real deal with this. Itโ€™s not like me and Ellen had a close relationship. Like I told Garth, Iโ€™m surprised she remembered I existed long enough to put me in a will.โ€ย

Cash glanced at his watch before starting the car and switching the phone call to the vehicleโ€™s speaker system. He would get a good nightโ€™s sleep, and be at the meeting with the attorney in the morning at eleven. Then he would leave, head back to the airport and fly home to Fairbanks.ย

โ€œI need to end the call, Charm, so I can concentrate on following the directions to Black Crow. Iโ€™ll talk to you later, kid.โ€ย

As Cash headed for the interstate, he thought about the conversation heโ€™d had with his father be- fore leaving. Bart was typical Bart. Even with six adult offspring, their old man still assumed it was his God- given right to stick his nose into their business when it didnโ€™t concern him.ย

Cash had put Bart in his place just that morning when heโ€™d tried telling Cash to make sure he got everything his mother owned because it was rightly due him. Cash had made it clear to Bart that he didnโ€™t want a single thing. Heโ€™d even seriously thought about not showing up for the reading of the will.

As far as he was concerned, it was too late for Ellen to make up for the years she had been absent from his life. The only reason he had decided to come was for closure.ย The drive from Laramie to Black Crow took less than an hour. He couldnโ€™t help wondering when his mother had moved to Wyoming. According to Bart, when she left Fairbanks thirty-four years ago, she had moved to New York.ย

Cash saw the marker denoting the entrance into Black Crowโ€™s city limits, and recalled all heโ€™d learned from doing an internet search last night before going to bed. It had first been inhabited by the Black Crow Indian tribe, from which the town derived its name. The present population was less than two thousand people, and most fought to retain an old-town feel, which was evident by the architecture of the buildings. Heโ€™d read that if any of the inhabitants thought Black Crow wasnโ€™t progressive enough for them, they were quickly invited to leave. But few people left and most had lived in the area for years. It was a close-knit place.ย

He came to a traffic light and watched numerous people walking around, going into the various shops. As he sat there, tapping his hand on the steering wheel, his gaze homed in on a woman who was walking out of an ice-cream shop. She was strikingly beautiful. He couldnโ€™t help noticing how she worked her mouth on her ice-cream cone, and he could just imagine her working her mouth on him the same way.

Cash drew in a deep breath as he shifted in the seat. She looked pretty damn good in her pullover sweater and a pair of jeans. If she was a sampling of what Black Crow had to offer, then maybe he needed to hang around for another day or two and not be so quick to leave town tomorrow.

He chuckled, thinking it would take more than a beautiful face and a gorgeous body to keep him in this town. Besides, he doubted that even if he stayed heโ€™d be able to find her. He had more to do with his time than chase down a woman. Chances were, she was wearing some guyโ€™s ring. There was no way a woman who looked like her was not spoken for.ย

The driver behind him beeped his horn to let Cash know the traffic light had changed and it was time to move on. Not able to resist temptation, he glanced back for one final look at the woman and saw she was gone.ย

Just as well.ย

Excerpt:

โ€œSo, when is the wedding, Garth?โ€

Garth Outlaw raised his eyes from studying his cards. Was his brother playing mind games to mess with his concentration?

โ€œAnd just what wedding are you talking about?โ€

Garth glanced around the table and saw the smirks on the faces of all four of his brothers. Even Jess had made a trip home from the nationโ€™s capital for a week long visit.

โ€œIs anyone going to answer?โ€ Garth asked.

Jess grinned as he threw out a card. โ€œI heard it from Dad the moment I walked through the door. He claims youโ€™ve gotten over Karen Piccard, decided to settle down and do whatever needs to be done for the benefit of the company, which includes getting a wife and making babies to guarantee the Outlaw dynasty. Those were his words, not mine.โ€

โ€œWe heard the same thing,โ€ Cash said, with Sloan and Maverick nodding in agreement.

Garth didnโ€™t say anything. Being the oldest son of Bartram โ€œBartโ€ Outlaw wasnโ€™t easy, especially when his father liked spreading information that wasnโ€™t true. However, in this case, it was. At least partly. He was planning to do what needed to be done for the company. But he seriously doubted he would ever get over Karen. She would always have his heart.

โ€œNo wedding date has been set because I havenโ€™t chosen a bride.โ€

His brother Cash sat up straight in his chair. โ€œAre you really thinking about settling down with a wife and making babies?โ€ he asked, as if the thought of doing such a thing was as unheard of as living in outer space.

Garth threw out some chips. โ€œWhy not? I donโ€™t see any of you guys rushing to the altar to continue the Outlaw legacy. Not even you, Jess, and youโ€™re the politician in the family. You of all people should be thinking about acquiring a wife.โ€ A couple of years ago, Jess had gotten elected as a senator from Alaska.

A grin touched Jessโ€™s lips. โ€œNo, thank you. Iโ€™m not ready to fall in love.โ€

Garth shrugged. โ€œWho said anything about falling in love?โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re thinking of marrying a woman you donโ€™t love?โ€ This question came from Sloan.ย

โ€œFor me thereโ€™s no other way.โ€

There was no reason to explain what he meant. They knew.

โ€œAnd youโ€™ll do it because Bart says it needs to be done?โ€

Garth rolled his eyes at his youngest brother, Maverick, whoโ€™d been quiet up to now. โ€œNo, Iโ€™ll consider doing it because I think itโ€™s about time I settled down. Iโ€™m thirty-eight, and dating gets old.โ€

โ€œSpeak for yourself,โ€ Maverick said, grinning. โ€œI happen to enjoy dating a lot of women.โ€

Garth shook his head. โ€œAnd Walker got me thinking. Look how long he was a loner before he got married. If he can do it, then anyone can.โ€

Walker Rafferty was Garthโ€™s best friend. A couple of years ago, Walker had met his current wife and now they were parents to twins, a boy and a girl theyโ€™d named Walker and Westlyn. Nobody thought Walker would ever remarry after losing his first wife and son in a car accident. Surprisingly, ten years later, Walker had fallen in love again. Garth was happy for Walker, and inspired to settle down, but honestly, he couldnโ€™t see himself falling in love. He was convinced Karen was the only woman he was meant to love.

Excerpt:

A feeling of relief swept through Mercury when he located his car. Parking in the space beside it, he quickly got out and glanced around the shops in the mall, wondering where the driver had gone.

He was pissed when he pulled his phone out of his jacket to call the police again to give them his exact location. Putting his phone back, he walked around his car and was glad not to see any dents. Other than need-ing a good wash job, the old girl looked good. Deciding to check the interior, he pulled his car keys out of his pocket to open the door.

โ€œGet away from my car!โ€

Mercury snatched his head up and was instantly mesmerized by the beauty of the womanโ€™s dark brown eyes, shoulder-length curly hair that cascaded around an oval face, high cheekbones, the smooth and creamy texture of her cocoa-colored skin and one pair of the sexiest lips heโ€™d ever seen on a woman.

He immediately flashed her one of his wolfish smiles and was about to go into man-whore mode until what sheโ€™d said stopped him. Then he became blinded to all that gorgeous beauty. โ€œYour car?โ€

โ€œYes, my car. Now get away from it before I call the police.โ€

He crossed his arms over his chest. โ€œThis is my car. It was stolen from me three nights ago.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re lying,โ€ the woman snapped.

Calling him a liar was a big mistake. The one thing he despised more than anything was for someone to question his integrity. โ€œIf you think that, then by all means call the police. However, you donโ€™t have to call them since I already have. Youโ€™re the thief, not me.โ€

โ€œI am not a thief,โ€ she said, feeling brave enough to step closer and glare at him.

โ€œNor am I a liar,โ€ he said, glaring back. Suddenly a police cruiser with flashing blue lights pulled up and two officers quickly got out. One was Sherman Aikens, one of Jonasโ€™s old high school friends. โ€œI see youโ€™ve found your car, Mercury.โ€

Mercury frowned over at him. โ€œNo thanks to you guys who should have been looking for it. And my car was never lost, it was stolen, and sheโ€™s the person who has it.โ€

โ€œItโ€™s my car!โ€

Both officers glanced over at the woman and Mercury glowered. Instead of saying anything, they just stared at her, male appreciation obvious in their gazes. โ€œFor crying out loud, arenโ€™t you going to ask to see her papers on the vehicle since she claims to be the owner?โ€ he snapped out at the officers.

Sherman broke eye contact with the woman to frown at Mercury. โ€œI was going to get to that.โ€ In a voice Mercury felt was way too accommodating, considering the circumstances, Sherman said, โ€œMaโ€™am, I need to see papers on this vehicle, because it resembles one reported stolen three nights ago.โ€

โ€œIt is the one that was stolen three nights ago,โ€ Mercury snapped while ignoring Shermanโ€™s frown. As far as Mercury was concerned, Sherman could become smitten with the woman on someone elseโ€™s time.

โ€œStolen! Thatโ€™s not possible, Officer,โ€ the woman said, looking alarmed. โ€œWhy would anyone want to steal that car? Look at it. Itโ€™s old.โ€

Mercury glared at her while Sherman and the other officer unsuccessfully tried hiding their grins. โ€œItโ€™s a classic, and if itโ€™s so old for your taste, why did you buy it like you claim you did?โ€ Mercury asked her.

โ€œBecause I needed transportation and it was in my budget,โ€ she said, pulling papers from her purse. โ€œI just bought it yesterday.โ€ She handed the papers to Sherman.

Mercury thought it took Sherman longer than necesary to switch his gaze from the woman to the papers. He then said in a too-apologetic voice, โ€œSorry, maโ€™am, but these papers are fake.โ€

Shock flew to her face. โ€œFake? But thatโ€™s not possible. A nice gentleman sold the car to me.โ€

โ€œThat โ€˜niceโ€™ man conned you into buying a stolen car,โ€ Mercury said, ignoring Shermanโ€™s narrowed gaze as well as the womanโ€™s thunderstruck expression.

Switching her gaze from Mercury to Sherman, she said, โ€œPlease tell me thatโ€™s not true, Officer. I gave him three hundred dollars.โ€

โ€œThree hundred dollars?โ€ Mercury asked, not believing what sheโ€™d said.

Lifting her chin, she added, โ€œYes, I knew the car wasnโ€™t worth that much, but the man looked a little down on his luck and needed the money.โ€

Mercury shook his head. โ€œYou got that car for a steal, no pun intended. Do you not know the value of that car? Itโ€™s worth over two hundred thousand dollars easily.โ€

She rolled her eyes. โ€œDonโ€™t be ridiculous.โ€ Ridiculous? She had bought a stolen car from some-one who she thought was a nice man, and she thought he was being ridiculous? He was about to give her a scathing reply, but Shermanโ€™s look warned him not to do so.

โ€œYes, maโ€™am, unfortunately that man did run a scam on you,โ€ Sherman said. โ€œI hate you lost all that money. I need you to come down to police headquarters and give us a statement, including a description of the man who sold you the car. We will be on the lookout for him.โ€

โ€œLike you guys were on the lookout for my car?โ€ Mercury said under his breath, but when Sherman shot him a disapproving glare, he knew heโ€™d been heard regardless.

Sherman turned to him. โ€œWeโ€™re going to have to impound the car. You and Miss Donahue need to come down to police headquarters to give statements.โ€

โ€œBut Iโ€™m on my way to a job interview,โ€ the woman said, suddenly looking distressed.

Mercury refused to feel an ounce of sympathy for her since he too would be late for an interview with a potential new client. Now he would have to reschedule. Every sports agent alive would want to sign on Nor-ris Eastwood, but the parents of the high school senior with plans to go straight into the NBA had sought out Mercury. He hoped being a no-show this morning wouldnโ€™t be a negative against him. If it was, then he had this woman to blame.

โ€œAre you okay with that, Mercury?โ€

When he heard his name, he glanced up. โ€œAm I okay with what?โ€ He saw the other officer had pulled the woman off to the side to take down some information. โ€œGiving Miss Donahue a ride to the police station,โ€ Sherman said.

โ€œDonโ€™t you have room in the police car? Thatโ€™s the normal way you transport criminals, isnโ€™t it? For all we know, she could be in cahoots with the person who stole my car.โ€

Sherman rolled his eyes. โ€œYou donโ€™t believe that any more than I do, Mercury. Itโ€™s obvious sheโ€™s an innocent victim who doesnโ€™t belong in the back of a patrol car. Sheโ€™s no more a thief than we are. Look at her.โ€

Mercury didnโ€™t want to look at her, but he did any-way. He immediately thought the same thing he had when heโ€™d first seen her. She was a very beautiful woman. Her features were just that striking. And then there was that delectable-looking figure in a navy blue pencil skirt and white blouse. Sexy as hell. But stillโ€ฆ

Bane, Brenda Jackson, The Westmorelands

I’ve got twice the treat for you today – first we get to preview the newest in Brenda Jackson’s popular The Westmorelands series, featuring a sexy Navy SEAL. ย AND the great people at Harlequin has some great info for those of you who are writers and want to be featured in their Desire line.

*****

Want to write for Harlequin Desire?

Harlequin Desire is one of our oldest and most widely read lines. Readers around the world devour these short, snappy storiesโ€“and we love reading them ourselves! So what makes a true Desire? Glad you askedโ€ฆ

Senior editor Stacy Boyd, editor Charles Griemsman and associate editor Allison Carroll weigh in on what makes a story Desire-ableโ€ฆ.

At Desire, weโ€™re looking for passion and provocation in a crisp, concise package. These are 50,000-word books about high net worth heroes and resourceful heroines who give as good as they get. The stories are sexy but not raunchy; the central romance is the primary focus. Big business, royalty and ranching give the plots spice and color, but you donโ€™t want to get bogged down in the details of stock swaps, cattle sales or royal pedigrees. At the end of the day, these books are about intense emotion, strong romantic hooks and what it takes to tame an alpha manโ€™s heart. Click here to read more about: Desire Writing Guidelines

To understand what the line is all about, be sure to check out Brenda Jacksonโ€™s Westmoreland series! You can find a complete listing of the titles here.

While most Desires are set in the U.S., some have foreign settings, from fictional desert kingdoms (Olivia Gates, Conveniently His Princess) to island getaways. Then there are our writers from New Zealand and Australia, who add Down Under flavor to the line. (We love learning Australian slang from our authors, btw.)

The best way to get a sense of what weโ€™re looking for in Harlequin Desire for new writers is to take a peek at continuity books. This is where some of our most popular authors come together and write a series of connected stories. Texas Cattlemanโ€™s Club has been a hit with readers for more than a decade!

And let us not forget babiesโ€ฆBillionaires & Babies, to be precise. The baby hook is a bestseller for Desire. Take a look at Cat Schield, whoโ€™s published twelve Desires since her series debut in 2011, fulfills the Billionaires & Babies promise with A Royal Baby Surprise.

We love surprises at Desire! In fact, most of our new writers came to our attention because of the surprises they included in their stories. Our favorite submissions are the ones that take classic themes, like secret babies and cowboy heroes, and make them seem brand new.

For example, Andrea Laurenceโ€™s first book, What Lies Beneath, is an amnesia story with a twist that won her the Romantic Times Reviewerโ€™s Choice Award for First Series Romance.

And Kat Cantrell, who won Harlequinโ€™s 2011 SYTYCW contest and published her first book with Desire in February 2013, started Marriage with Benefitsโ€”a marriage of convenience storyโ€”with a heroine looking for a divorce! She followed that book with The Things She Says, an opposites attract trope mixed with a Texas road trip adventure.

If your story is a new take on classic themes, and includes sensuality, drama and an alpha hero with a heart of gold, send it our way!

And be sure to check out BANE by Brenda Jackson, available December 2015 from Harlequin Desire!

Along with checking out the Harlequin Community Forums for Desire Discussions, follow #HarlequinDesire where @Stacy_Boyd, @CharlieGrim or @AllisonPCarroll can often be found talking about what they likeโ€“and donโ€™t like!โ€“in their current manuscripts and just keep reading. And writing!
