Filthy Player

A Rough Riders Novel

by Stacey Lynn

Release Date: October 9th

Blurb:

The Raleigh Rough Riders are back, and this time Super Bowl Quarterback Beaux Hale finds himself playing the most important game of his life.

Every woman knows Beaux Hale is nothing but a player. Yet the first time he walks into Paige Hallowayโ€™s restaurant and flashes his sexy grin, she feels a heat between them spark. Too bad he opens his mouth and ruins it.

He may think his money, fame, and sexy looks will attract any womanโ€”but heโ€™s wrong.

Paige doesnโ€™t have time for a man. Sheโ€™s too busy keeping a roof over her head and taking care of her father to care about relationships.

Lucky for Beaux, heโ€™s a man who’s ready to use all the plays at his disposal. He didnโ€™t bring his team a Super Bowl victory by giving up at the first block in his pathโ€”and Paige Halloway has just become his new long-game.

Beaux also knows that sometimes, in order to win and claim your prize, you have to get a little bit filthy.

Excerpt:

โ€œYou know, youโ€™re not anything like I really imagined you were.โ€

โ€œIs that a compliment?โ€

โ€œI suppose it might be.โ€ Her lips twisted like she didnโ€™t want to admit it. I couldnโ€™t stop from chuckling. Why did this woman dislike me? Instead of it turning me off, I was curious.

โ€œOkay, then, how about this. You take care of my truck, Iโ€™ll do your favor, and then tonight, you let me take you out for dinner.โ€

โ€œYou donโ€™t even know what the favor is.โ€

โ€œDoesnโ€™t matter. Iโ€™ll still do it, and I still want you across the table from me so I can keep proving how much of a non-asshole I am.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re sort of pushy, you know that?โ€

โ€œI prefer โ€˜determinedโ€™ when I see something I want.โ€ I flicked my hand out. โ€œWhatโ€™s the favor?โ€

โ€œShe glanced toward the door to the garage and sighed again. โ€œMy dadโ€™s a fanโ€”โ€

โ€œJust your dad?โ€ I teased.

She huffed, lips pressed into a pout and continued, ignoring me. โ€œItโ€™s just, I was wondering, it doesnโ€™t have to be much, nothing big at allโ€ฆbut could you autographโ€”โ€

โ€œDone.โ€ We had boatloads of crap in the marketing department I could grab. Iโ€™d take care of it and blow her mind with my generosity. And it wasnโ€™t just because I tried to do everything I could for fans, but because she was pretty when she blushed.

Even prettier as her eyes went soft when she mentioned her dad.

Spectacular as she gritted out her favor like asking for something from someone was worse than getting teeth pulled without Novocain.

โ€œYeah?โ€ she asked. โ€œThatโ€™d be really great. But dinner, I donโ€™t know.โ€

The pretty little liar. Her blush told me she wanted it. โ€œTonight, whenever. You make the call, and itโ€™s not payback for the favor or you fixing my truck. I just want to share a meal with you.โ€

โ€œWhy? Because you want in my pants?โ€

Her tone was snippy and her shoulders tightened. Sheโ€™d handed me a loaded gun and hell if I was going to shoot myself with it.

I closed the five feet of space between us, making her step backward until she was almost plastered to my truck.

โ€œI do want in your pants, Paige. Any American male who watches you for longer than two seconds probably wants the same. And Iโ€™ll take my time getting there if I have to, so Iโ€™m not going to be a dick and lie, and Iโ€™m not being a dick by being honest. Iโ€™m just honest. But dinner is because youโ€™re pretty, and for some reason I canโ€™t explain, I want to know why you look so damn exhausted, why you just asking me for help made you look like you want to puke, and why you did it anyway. So basically, I just want to talk to you. Get to know you. Iโ€™m interested and Iโ€™m not going to hide that either. Itโ€™s not my style.โ€

โ€œWow.โ€ Her cheeks had turned pink while I was talking and by the time I was done, her lips were parted. โ€œThatโ€™s a lot to discuss at dinner.โ€

โ€œThen weโ€™ll tack on drinks and dessert at the end.โ€

Thrill of Love

The Bradens at Peaceful Harbor, MD #6

by Melissa Foster

Releasing October 4, 2017

World Literary Press

Blurb:

Do you believe in fate?

World-renowned mountain climber and nature photographer Ty Braden never believed in second dates, much less heart-pounding, steal-his-breath love. But that was before a trip to Saint-Luc, where he met funny, strong, and entrancingly beautiful Aiyla Bell, a ski instructor and fellow photographer whose hopes and dreams, and love of the outdoors, aligned perfectly with hisโ€”and whose kisses alone turned him inside out.

After spending five magical days and four sweet, soulful nights falling in love, Aiyla couldnโ€™t imagine a day without Ty. But when he asked her to go with him on his next assignment, his reputation for having women at his beck and call stopped her from upending the life sheโ€™d worked so hard to create.

Months later fate steps in when a chance encounter brings Ty and Aiyla together for a five-day wilderness event held in the Colorado Mountains. Their deep, passionate connection is stronger than ever, and Ty is bound and determined not to lose her again. But when tragedy strikes and their worlds are turned upside down, their love faces the truest test of all.

Excerpt:

โ€œDo you believe in fate?โ€

His warm breath coasted over her cheek, and she swallowed hard, paralyzed by the sound of the deep, seductive voice sheโ€™d heard in her dreams so many times she wasnโ€™t sure it was real. Her heart thundered against her ribs, and she forced her shaky legs to work. She turned, both of them rising at the same time, bringing all six-plus broad, muscular, feet of Ty Braden into focus.ย Oh God. Itโ€™s really you.ย His silky brown hair was in desperate need of a trim, stopping just short of his shoulders and framing his rugged features. The mix of longing and shock in his golden-brown eyes unearthed a storm of memoriesโ€”her hand in his, his lips on hers, deep conversations as they shared their hopes and dreams, which were as perfectly aligned as the stars in the skies of Saint-Luc.

โ€œTyโ€ came out ridiculously breathless. She wanted to scale him like a mountain, to kiss his hot, sensuous mouth again and feel him holding her as he once had. But she couldnโ€™t do any of those things. She was frozen in place, and that was probably a good thing. He was stillย Ty Braden, the world-renowned mountain climber and photographer, with a reputation as a player that preceded him.

In an effort to regain control, she shifted her gaze away and managed, โ€œWhat are you doing here?โ€

โ€œItโ€™s fate,โ€ he said confidently, as if he believed in it. โ€œFate has brought us together for another five days.โ€

She forced herself to meet his gaze, her heart thundering at the prospect of more time with him. โ€œYou donโ€™t believe in fate, remember? You believe people are in charge of their own destiny.โ€ Their last night in Switzerland, heโ€™d asked her to leave with him the next day and travel with him โ€œto see where things end up.โ€ Oh,ย how sheโ€™d wanted to throw caution to the wind and join him. But sheโ€™d worked years to build the life she had always dreamed of, and she couldnโ€™t risk it all to be one in a long line of Tyโ€™s women. Sheโ€™d fallen hard for himโ€”fallen inย loveย with himโ€”and she hadnโ€™t been able to bring herself to confront the rumors about his reputation. Instead, sheโ€™d said,ย Do you believe in fate?ย And though heโ€™d said he didnโ€™t, she always had, and sheโ€™d said,ย if this is meant to be, weโ€™ll meet up again. Theyโ€™d agreed not to exchange phone numbers or addresses, and not to track each other down by any other means, but to truly leave their future in fateโ€™s hands.

โ€œI think thatโ€™s changed, Aiyla.โ€ He said her name like heโ€™d been waiting to say it for all these months. He stepped closer, so close she could smell something minty on his breath. โ€œI canโ€™t believe youโ€™reย here. After all this time, youโ€™reย reallyย here.โ€

The longing in his voice confused her even more. She looked into his eyes, and memories swamped her. She remembered the feel of him holding her in his arms as they fell asleep fully clothed and waking to his sweet whispers and gentle kisses. Cuddling under blankets as snow fell around them and they reminisced about their childhoods and families. She felt like she already knew his five siblings, though sheโ€™d never met them. A lump rose in her throat, and she shifted her gaze over his shoulder to try to regain control. Two female competitors were whispering and watching them. Her stomach knotted again. Why did the only guy sheโ€™d ever fallen for have to come with a womanizing reputation? He hadnโ€™t seemed like a player in Saint-Luc. He hadnโ€™t even tried to sleep with her until that very last night, when she knew heโ€™d been picking up on all of her sexy signals. Signals sheโ€™d then dashed with one sentence. Sheโ€™d been seconds from going back to his hotel room when heโ€™d stepped away to answer a call. The brief moments it had taken him had given her a chance to clear the lust from her head enough to make a more rational decision. He probably thought she was a cocktease, but it wasnโ€™t merely sex sheโ€™d been avoiding. Sheโ€™d thought she was saving her heart. And sheโ€™d regretted that decision ever since.

Shaughnessy Brothers #6

by Samantha Chase

Release Date: October 3, 2017

Blurb:

Darcy Shaughnessy has gotten used to her overbearing brothers chasing away any man she wants to date. But a chance meeting with a brooding โ€“ and deliciously handsome โ€“ artist is about to make this holiday season one to remember.

There’s only one thing Benjamin Tanner loves more than his woodcarving: solitude. Then he gets snowed in with Darcy in his cozy cabin in the woods, and their heated feelings begin to melt the icy barrier between them.

With Ben’s need for privacy and Darcy’s love of family and social life, will opposites still attract once the snow clears and the holiday festivities come to an end?

Excerpt:

It had been tempting to watch her for a little bit longer. Everything about Darcy was so expressive that even though Ben hadnโ€™t heard one word of her exchange with the security guard, he had been able to imagine the entire conversation based on the look on her face.

It was highly entertaining.

โ€œWhat are you doing here?โ€ she asked, her expression one of total confusion.

โ€œSavannah called me and told me you werenโ€™t able to get on a flight. So here I am,โ€ he said, offering her a small smile.

She frowned.

Seriously? Even when he came to save her, she was still pissed at him?

โ€œWhat if I had gotten on a flight between the time Savannah called you and the time you got to the airport?โ€

He shrugged. โ€œThen I would have made a very perilous trip for nothing. I would have gotten here sooner, but people donโ€™t know how to drive in the snow. I passed a bunch of accidents.โ€

โ€œYou could have been one of them.โ€

Another shrug. โ€œI have a truck that happens to be exceptional in the snow, and Iโ€™m used to driving in it. It wasnโ€™t a big deal. You need to drive slowly, and youโ€™ll be all right.โ€

Darcy looked around and made a noncommittal sound. โ€œSo you just got here, huh?โ€

โ€œNo, Iโ€™ve been here for a while. I couldnโ€™t get past security, and it took some time to page you. I tried calling you several times, but I kept getting a message that all circuits were busy. I guess with the storm moving in and all.โ€ He paused and gave her a lopsided grin. โ€œAnyway, I saw you when you were on the escalator, but you didnโ€™t see me.โ€

โ€œThereโ€™s, like, a million people here,โ€ she said with a hint of sarcasm. โ€œAnd I wasnโ€™t looking for, well, you.โ€

He frowned at her tone. โ€œWhat did you think you were coming here for?โ€

โ€œHonestly? I thought my brother had been able to charter a plane for me.โ€

He couldnโ€™t help but chuckle. โ€œSorry to disappoint you. But the only charter you have is meโ€”in the form of a truck and a trip back to the lake.โ€

โ€œOh. So I guess Iโ€™ll get a room at the hotel,โ€ she said, and he noticed she wouldnโ€™t look directly at him.

โ€œI just planned on bringing you to the cabin until the storm is over and flights are back to normal. It wonโ€™t be more than a couple of days. No need for you to have to go to a hotel or anything.โ€

Now she did look at him. โ€œNo, really, itโ€™s okay. Iโ€™d prefer to go to the hotel.โ€

She was looking at him with a hint of defiance, and he figured heโ€™d let her have her way for now. The sooner they got on the road, the better. There was already a very real possibility they werenโ€™t going to get home until after dark. It would be pointless to drag this out.

โ€œThatโ€™s fine. No problem.โ€ He motioned toward her suitcase. โ€œIโ€™ll take that for you. Letโ€™s get going.โ€

โ€œOh.โ€

Ben could hear the relief in her voice and smiled to himself. For right now, he was happy to have a truce with her. They had a long drive ahead of them, and heโ€™d rather it be peaceful rather than tense and awkward.

He waited while she pulled her coat out and got herself together, and then they made their way out to the parking garage. The traffic was insane, and he prayed it wasnโ€™t going to be as bad as he was fearing.

It was.

And it was tense and awkward.

Excerpt:

Maybe he was right. Maybe it was time she was honest with him.

Careful to keep her voice low, she turned her head and looked off down the street. Honesty might be the best policy, but she couldnโ€™t force herself to look into that disarming hazel gaze while she said the words.

โ€œI wasnโ€™t prepared for this. I was prepared for a weekend. A little fun with someone I trusted once. Thatโ€™s different, you know, than a hookup in a bar. But youโ€™reโ€ฆyou. Itโ€™s childish, really, to still feel that way. To be jealous of a dead woman.โ€ She heaved a sigh and finally forced herself to look at him. โ€œBut I am.โ€

Her insides shook as she waited. That was the most sheโ€™d ever told him. She didnโ€™t know if she actually wanted his response and yet part of her craved it. A holdover from all those years ago. Back in college, sheโ€™d wanted him to know sheโ€™d fallen in love with him, because sheโ€™d held out this hope heโ€™d tell her he loved her back. Pathetic that the need still hovered beneath the surface.

Those keen eyes worked her face. Then, finally, he smiled, warm and alluring. โ€œSo, dinner? Next Friday?โ€

There was that sexy smile sheโ€™d known would make an appearance, and she was caving, exactly the way sheโ€™d known she would.

She heaved a sigh and nodded. โ€œFine. You win. Iโ€™ll have dinner with you next Friday. But since I owe you for the car and clearly youโ€™re not taking my moneyโ€ฆโ€

โ€œNope.โ€ He winked, eyes gleaming with playful impishness and a touch of smug self-satisfaction.

Giddy, happy little butterflies took flight in her stomach. โ€œThen Iโ€™m cooking.โ€

One dark brow arched and the corners of his mouth twitched. โ€œCan you do that?โ€

This time, her facade cracked. She punched him in the shoulder. โ€œYes, thank you very much. Contrary to popular belief, I have actually grown up.โ€

Those gorgeous eyes glinted at her. โ€œSo you have.โ€

โ€œFriday. Six oโ€™clock. Donโ€™t be late.โ€ She pivoted and marched toward her car, determined to get away from him before she embarrassed herself. As she reached into her purse, however, it hit her. Gabe had her keys. She halted, sighed, and, face hot as Hades itself, turned back.

Gabe stood grinning at her, his right arm extended. He jangled her keys, dangling from his thumb and forefinger. โ€œMissing something?โ€

She rolled her eyes and strode back to him, but when she reached for the keys, he held tight to them.

โ€œI look forward to seeing you, you know. Iโ€™ll say it again, in case you missed my point last time. Were you anybody else, that first date wouldnโ€™t have gone this far.โ€ He finally released her keys and winked at her. โ€œAnd I wonโ€™t be late. Iโ€™m never late.โ€

by Mia Sosa

Genre: Adult, Contemporary Romance

Publisher: Avon Impulse

Publication Date: September 19, 2017

Blurb:

After a very public breakup with a media-hungry politician, fitness trainer Tori Alvarez escapes to Aruba for rest, relaxation, and copious amounts of sex on the beachโ€”the cocktail, that is. She vows to keep her vacation a man-free zoneโ€ฆ but when a cute guy is seated next to her on the plane, Tori canโ€™t resist a little harmless flirting.

Hollywood heartthrob Carter Stone underwent a dramatic physical transformation for his latest role and itโ€™s clear his stunning seat mate doesnโ€™t recognize the man beneath the shaggy beard and extra lean frame. Now Carter needs help rebuilding his buff physique and Tori is perfect for the job. It doesnโ€™t hurt that she makes his pulse pound in more ways than one.

Sparks are flying, until a pesky paparazzo reveals Carterโ€™s identity. Tori is hurt and pissed. She wants nothing to do with another man in the limelight, but sheโ€™s still got to whip him into shape. Can Carter convince Tori heโ€™s worth the threat to her privacy that comes with dating a famous actor, or will Tori chisel him down to nothing before he even gets the chance?

Excerpt:

As I crawl into the tiny spaceโ€”itโ€™s been a while since Iโ€™ve traveled coach classโ€”I catch a whiff of her scent and close my eyes. Not sure if itโ€™s perfume, body wash, or what, but it smells like vanilla and reminds me of the candles my mother used to buy at the local craft store. That right there is a sign. My mother would most heartily approve of this woman.

Now to find out her name.

I turn in my seat, prepping myself for a short conversationโ€”too much too soon isnโ€™t part of the playbookโ€”but then I realize sheโ€™s not next to me. I raise myself off the cushion and pretend to stretch as I turn my head to scan the back of the plane. Sheโ€™s a few rows back, standing and chatting with a guy who doesnโ€™t appear to have anyone sitting next to him.

Oh, hell no.

Do I have to go to the restroom? You bet.

Before I stand, a bell rings and a flight attendant announces that there will be a short delay while the ground crew clears debris from the runway. Perfect.

I rise and make my way through the aisle, pushing down the bill of my baseball cap so no one notices me. But, of course, someone does. For all the wrong reasons.

A little girl with huge brown eyes and a mop of bright red hair tugs on her motherโ€™s shirt and says, โ€œMommy, that man looks like a bear.โ€

The cutieโ€™s pronouncement is loud enough that several nearby passengers chuckle. Even the object of my fascination turns and laughs. I grin at the kid, and she growls in her best imitation of a bear. So freaking adorable, that girl. Enjoying her fascination with my beard, I channel my inner Leonardo DiCaprio and growl right back.

Now Iโ€™ve done it.

The little girlโ€™s eyes go round, and her eyes water. Then she lets out a shriek like the hounds of hell are chasing her. Unfortunately, Iโ€™m the hounds, and everyone on the plane, including my future wife, knows it.

The girlโ€™s mother tries to quiet her, rocking her and telling her everything will be okay. Their seatmate, meanwhile, throws daggers at me with his eyes.

โ€œHeโ€™s so scary looking,โ€ the little girl chants over and over into her motherโ€™s chest.

โ€œSir,โ€ the flight attendant says behind me, โ€œweโ€™re getting ready to take off soon. Could you please return to your seat?โ€

Bewildered by the past ten minutes of my life, I nod and amble back to my row. How the hell did things go south that quickly? Fantasy woman returns, and my stomach drops when I catch the look of sympathy on her face. I slide down into my seat, give her a pathetic smile, and cover my face with my baseball cap as though Iโ€™m settling in for a nap. I need to regroup before I can speak to her. And I refuse to listen to the preflight safety demonstration unless the attendant can teach me how to save me from myself.

So now I know another thing: Whatever I tell my kids about how I met their mother, itโ€™s going to be a lie. A big, fat fucking lie.
