A big-city, high-powered advertising executive and a small-town firefighter learn that no matter where you started or what you’ve lost, if you open your heart, you can find joy and love again. WILD IRIS RIDGE is the latest book inUSA TODAY bestselling author RaeAnne Thayne’s charming Hope’s Crossing series.

Lucy Drake and Brendan Caine have only one thing in common. And it’s likely to tear them apart. Because it was Brendan’s late wife, Jessie—and Lucy’s best friend—who’d brought them together in the first place. And since Jesse’s passing, Brendan’s been distracted by his two little ones…and the memory of an explosive kiss with Lucy years before his marriage. Still, he’ll steer clear of her. She’s always been trouble with a capital T.

Lucy couldn’t wait to shed her small-town roots for the big city. But now that she’s back in Hope’s Crossing to take care of the Queen Anne home her late aunt has left her, she figures seeing Brendan Caine again is no big deal. After all, she’d managed to resist the handsome fire chief once before, but clearly the embers of their attraction are still smoldering…

Review:

I started the Hope’s Crossing series with book 5, Willowleaf Lane, and I definitely think I missed out by not having read the first four.  Willowleaf Lane, Christmas in Snowflake Canyon, and now Wild Iris Ridge have to be some of my favorite stories – the characters are so real, the plots are touching, and the writing is so smooth.  I sit down and before I know it hours have passed, and I’m always a little sad when I come to the end.

Although logically it doesn’t make a lot of sense, I understand the emotional reaction that Lucy has to Brendan. Her family history added to what happened after their very brief romantic encounter definitely makes it difficult for her to deal with him in anything but an emotional way.  Mix in her current crisis and she’s a bit of a mess.

Brendan is finally starting to dig himself out of the hole left when his wife died suddenly.  He’s amazingly strong, and has a great support system, and his family is much better off because of it.  They easily could have slid into disaster but he’s done a great job of keeping everything together … only to have Lucy shake it all up again.

I enjoyed seeing Lucy find a path that works for her now, develop a stronger relationship with her sister, and discover the love of Hope’s Crossing again.  It’s such a fantastic little town and the characters are so enjoyable.  And while it is great seeing how everyone fits together, Brendan and Lucy spend a good portion of it apart (most of the time on purpose as they avoid each other and their feelings). My only complaint is that I would have liked to have seen a little more interaction directly between the two. They have the history but I think we needed to see just a little bit more of the two of them together now, especially with some of their dirty laundry aired and the chance at moving forward in a more positive way.  Just a few more interactions between the two would have made me happy.

A small town full of warmth and heart, characters that you would love to call friends, touching family drama and a sweet second chance romance makes Wild Iris Ridge the perfect read for romance lovers everywhere.

(Although this is the last to be set in Hope’s Crossing, I read somewhere that Thayne is going to move to a new town but the first story will include Brendan’s brother Aiden, whose story I am so looking forward to.  I’m super excited to get the chance to meet new characters to love.)

AFlynnAuthor Info:

Avery Flynn has three slightly-wild children, loves a hockey-addicted husband and is desperately hoping someone invents the coffee IV drip.

She fell in love with romance while reading Johanna Lindsey’s Mallory books. It wasn’t long before Avery had read through all the romance offerings at her local library. Needing a romance fix, she turned to Harlequin’s four books a month home delivery service to ease the withdrawal symptoms. That worked for a short time, but it wasn’t long before the local book stores’ staffs knew her by name.

Avery was a reader before she was a writer and hopes to always be both. She loves to write about smartass alpha heroes who are as good with a quip as they are with their *ahem* other God-given talents. Her heroines are feisty, fierce and fantastic. Brainy and brave, these ladies know how to stand on their own two feet and knock the bad guys off theirs.

Young, rich, and unaware of how seriously hot he is, Brooks Davison is tearing it up as the latest shortstop for the New York Kings, despite his tendency to blush whenever girls scream his name.

When a health scare forces his best friend, Kyle Roberts, off the team, no one can stomach the thought of replacing him, especially so close to the playoffs.

Until Kyle’s sister, Sasha, steps in, convincing management to let her take his place. The idea of signing the first female player in Major League history proves too tempting for the Kings to resist.

Nevertheless, Brooks doesn’t want any part of it. Sasha is Kyle’s little sister, not some sideshow.

Yet when Kyle takes a turn for the worse, Brooks promises to do everything in his power to help Sasha win a championship for him. Because there’s no way he’s letting either of them down. Not now, not ever.

Excerpt:

“Why are you freaking out about this?” she asks, rubbing the sleep out of her eyes. “I’ll still be in the city. It’s not like we’re never going to see each other.”

“It’s better if I’m nearby…so I can keep an eye on you,” I insist as she struggles to get up off the couch while I stubbornly hold on to her feet.

“So that’s what this is all about?” She’s angry with me, but I don’t know why. “You made some kind of promise to Kyle that you’d be my watchdog. Well, you don’t have to worry about it. Kyle thought that it’d only be for a couple of days. He never would’ve put you up to it if he knew how long I was going to be here. It’s not fair to ask you to babysit me. I’ll be fine. The Kings will make sure of it.”

“And that’s what worries me,” I grumble, absently stroking her ankle. “I don’t want you falling under their influence. You need someone in your corner who will watch out for you, someone who cares about you.”

She whips around to face me. Shit. Did I really just say that? I can’t control my thoughts whenever I’m around this girl. They just come tumbling out.

“What do you mean by that?” She levels me with her gaze, daring me to lie to her. “You care about me…how exactly? Like a friend? Like the sister you never had? Or something more?”

Damn. She doesn’t mince words, does she? It’s her first night here and she’s laying it all on the line. She wants answers. She deserves answers. But I’m not ready to give them to her yet. Not when we don’t know what’s going to happen to Kyle. He trusts me to look out for her. I can’t let him down, especially once he hears about what she’s gone and done.

But Sasha doesn’t give me a chance to respond. I relax my grip on her legs, and she scoots them underneath her, drawing herself in next to me. She’s so close. I can see the gold flecks in her eyes. Our lips are inches apart. It would be so easy to lean in and kiss her. I remember how she tasted that night on the beach, sweet and soft. I couldn’t get enough of her.

Until Kyle interrupted us and told me to get the hell out of there before he beat the crap out of me.

Author Info:

Collette West grew up as somewhat of a jock-nerd hybrid. Entering the world three weeks premature, her dad nearly missed her birth because he had seats behind the dugout for a sold-out, highly-anticipated match-up between two of baseball’s biggest rivals. Not to be outdone, her book-loving mom taught her how to read by the time she was three. A love of the game coupled with an appreciation for the written word were instilled in Collette’s impressionable brain from a young age. No wonder her characters believe in the philosophy: sports + romance = a little slice of heaven.

Splitting her time between the Pocono Mountains and Manhattan, Collette indulges her inner fangirl by going to as many games as she can from hockey to baseball and downloading every sports romance novel in existence onto her iPad. When she’s not clicking away on her laptop, she enjoys walking her dog in Central Park, satisfying her caffeine craving at the Starbucks on Broadway and keeping an eye out for Mr. Right. But above all, she loves dishing with her readers. Email her at collette_west@yahoo.com.

She is the author of NIGHT GAMES and GAME CHANGER.

Fiancee For Hire, Front and Center series, Tawna Fenske

Time again to look at another new Entangled book – this one looks super good … I love the idea of an old crush coming to fruition, and Tawna Fenske has added a sassy heroine and a little danger for extra spice.  Fiancee for Hire is definitely going on my TBR file.

Blurb:

A satisfying category romance from Entangled’s brand new Lovestruck imprint…

Falling in love was never part of the plan…

Former Marine MacArthur Patton has made a small fortune on top-secret government contracts and black-ops missions, but his new assignment involves something more dangerous—marriage.

“Sweet” and “demure” aren’t in Kelli Landers’s repertoire. A badass veterinarian who neuters big dogs and bigger men on a regular basis, she can’t wait to bring Mr. Tall-Dark-and-Detached to his knees. Her longtime crush on the commitment-phobe makes her plan to seduce him even sweeter.

Love wasn’t part of the plan, but the deeper Mac and Kelli fall into their ruse, the more danger they attract, until more than just their hearts are on the line…

A Lesson in Temptation, Amanda K Byrne, Audra North, One Night in Buenos Aires, Stanton Family series

Now we get to look at two sexy new books from Entangled Select – both are full of heat and heart.  Check out the fantastic excerpts below!

*****

aLessonInTemptation_500A Lesson in Temptation

by Audra North

Blurb:

Adam Harkness pulled himself out of poverty to become one of the world’s most respected Finance professors, but at the cost of his personal life. When a well-meaning friend gifts him with a dance course, Adam decides to attend one class out of courtesy, but no more than that. He has work to do, after all – or at least, that’s what he tells himself.

After being bullied in high school, Julie Stanton took refuge in her studies. But now that her hard work has paid off and Julie has found success in her job, it’s time to focus on finding the same happiness in the rest of her life.

When Adam walks into the same tango class that Julie signed up for, she recognizes him immediately as the professor whom she had a crush on in college. Both Adam and Julie have proven themselves to be excellent scholars. But when the attraction between them turns into something more, will they be able to open their hearts and learn a new lesson – how to love.

Goodreads   Amazon   Barnes & Noble   Entangled

Excerpt:

Julie turned and looked at Adam. He was still wearing that little smile, but he hadn’t relaxed at all.

“Everyone, spread out into a circle,” Ivana called, gesturing with her arms around her body. “Spread, spread, spread!”

Next to her, Adam groaned quietly. “Not only is this a dance class, it‘s a cheerful dance class.”

She grinned in response. “I assume this is the first time you’ve taken dance?”

He looked confused for a second, as though he hadn’t realized he said that out loud, then shrugged. “This kind of thing isn’t really my cup of tea.”

True. A dance class was the last place she would have expected to see him. Maybe he was trying the same thing she was—to get out a little more and remind himself what life was really about. He’d been a workaholic even when she was in college, after all. But before she could ask him why he was here, the instructor clapped her hands again. “Now, gentlemen! Turn to your right and face the lady closest to you. Ladies, turn to your left and face the gentleman closest to you.”

Their eyes met and held, and for a moment, everything else fell away as she and Adam looked at each other. It was like the past few years hadn’t even happened. That same intense attraction she’d always had toward him was still there, pulling her forward. It was too much, all of a sudden, and she had to look away before she did something stupid, like throw her arms around his neck and try to kiss him. No way was she going to get into a situation where she’d only be rejected again. This class was supposed to be fun. Maybe once it started, she could politely excuse herself and go flirt with Trent again.

At that moment, Ivana announced, “Ladies and gentlemen, the person you are now facing will be your primary partner for the next six weeks.”

One-Night-in-Buenos-Aires-500One Night in Buenos Aires

by Amanda K. Byrne

Blurb:

As a reward for a hard-won contract, best friends Drea and Joe head to Buenos Aires for sun, wine, and the tango. But their week of relaxation is off to an ominous start when a reservation mix-up leaves them with only one option: one room…and one bed.

Exhausted from travel, the two friends figure it won’t be a big deal to share a bed for one night—right up until they wake wrapped around each other and seconds away from, well, you know.

When the two decide to follow through on their impulse, they protect their friendship by agreeing that when the vacation’s over, the fling’s over. While Drea’s convinced it’s nothing more than a mutual itch, Joe discovers Drea might be everything he’s ever wanted. Now all he has to do is convince her that what happens in Buenos Aires doesn’t always have to stay in Buenos Aires.

Goodreads   Amazon   Barnes & Noble   iTunes   Entangled

Excerpt:

“There’s a show? Cool.” He studied the runway.

“Um, yeah,” she hedged.

Before she could say another word, the same small man she’d spent most of the afternoon chatting with over glasses of wine swooped in. “Baby, you came!” Two air kisses, one beside each cheek. “And this?” He stroked Joe’s arm suggestively. “You brought me this tasty piece of man meat? Yum!”

She burst out laughing at Joe’s expression. Comical horror slid into stoic as he allowed the man to fawn all over him. The fact her new friend had a face full of makeup made it even better.

Her giggles continued while Joe glared at her, mouth pinched as he fought off a smile. He leaned forward until their noses bumped. “Careful. Or you’re gonna get it.” He flicked his tongue out and swiped her chin, and she squealed.

She plucked up her napkin and wiped her chin. “How mature.” She relaxed a fraction more. Her body might be reacting in new and scary ways to his touch, but he was Joe. Still prone to moments of juvenilism. Still making her laugh.

He put his hand on her thigh, fingers playing with the hem of her dress while they skimmed the menus. Anxiety and desire took up swords in her stomach and started battling. Higher. Off. Don’t stop. Do. She placed a hand over his, curled her fingers around it, and shifted it higher, under her dress.

His long, slim fingers flexed hard on her thigh. He lowered his menu, the question clear in his eyes. It was a fine edge she was walking. One nudge and they’d tumble over into a swirling mass of lust and heat and frenetic energy. He’d promised her, though. Promised no matter what happened between them they’d hold on to their friendship. Above all, she trusted him.

So she nodded, and his hand slid up, stroking the sensitized flesh.

Excerpt:

Trace Reeves was lost in a woman he only knew by first name. Mallory. There had to be more to her than the crush of a hot-as-hell kiss and the sweet smell of her hair as it dangled around him. Her mix of daring and confidence had left him lust drunk. Then she batted those eyes, and he could’ve sworn the badass-babe act was a front for something so much deeper. He just couldn’t put his finger on it.

Well, actually, his fingers were all over it. All over her—and what a rockin’ body.

She was the perfect way to escape after his day stuck at Landstuhl. He’d been nosing around the medical center near Ramstein Air Base. Seeing wounded survivors served as a constant reminder that he continued to fail the only person who mattered—his brother in blood and in arms. His twin turned soldier turned fallen comrade. Heart racing, he pinched his eyes closed, ordering his stomach to calm. It’d been weeks, but time felt like it had stopped. So much anger lived within him, and he couldn’t let it go.

Tonight, drowning the night in beer had been the plan. It made him forget about the fruitless questioning of wounded, shell-shocked soldiers that may’ve seen something after his brother’s attack. Screw it. He’d learned crap and had needed a drink—and a woman. Then, he’d had both.

Accidentally Married on Purpose, Love and Games series, Rachel Harris

Continuing the fantastic “Love and Games” series, which started with Taste the Heat and Seven Day Fiance, we now get Sherry Robicheaux’s story with Accidentally Married on Purpose.  I can’t wait!  The sneak peeks I’ve seen makes this one look absolutely fabulous.

by Rachel Harris

Blurb:

One ring plus one wild night equals one crazy love

Sherry Robicheaux loves men. She loves love. And she loves an adventure. So when she meets a mysterious man while working backstage at a country music concert in Vegas, she’s all about what happens in Vegas staying there.

Country music superstar Tyler Blue just wants a weekend of anonymity…though there’s something about the spunky waitress with the streaks of purple hair that tempts him like no other. Until the next morning, when they both wake up with fuzzy memories…and rings on their fingers.

Convincing Sherry to maintain the ruse for his public image isn’t the hardest part—it’s reminding himself that their time spent playing husband and wife in her small town of Magnolia Springs can’t last. Tyler’s first love will always be music—and the road is no place for a sweet downhome girl.

Excerpt:

Laughing, he threw open the door and tore up the drive, expecting Sherry to be right behind him. But when he reached the front door and turned around, she wasn’t on the porch. Confused, Tyler walked back a few steps and found her instead in the yard, face tilted to the sky, arms stretched to capture the liquid drops.

In his experience, women tended to get all Wicked Witch when it came to the wet stuff—they freaked if it touched them. While Sherry wasn’t overly dramatic about fashion, he’d seen her tackle box filled with makeup and witnessed the application ceremony. If anyone would avoid the risk of messing it up, it’d be Sherry.

But then, as he always seemed to be when it came to this woman, he’d been wrong.

“What the hell are you doing?”

She stuck out her tongue like a kid catching snowflakes and closed her eyes as the rain pelted her once flawless face. Lowering her head with a grin, she said, “It’s not like we’re gonna melt. Haven’t you ever danced in the rain for fun?”

“Danced?” Tyler edged closer to the end of the covered porch, shocked anew. Raising his voice over the torrent, he shook his head. “Can’t say that I have.”

His confession earned him a playful grin, and as she held out a hand toward him, she said, “There’s a first time for everything.”

Right now, he was dry. He was under a roof, warm and adequately dressed to impress the in-laws. But her smile was hypnotic. Placing his hand in hers, unsure why he was even doing it, he let her tug him into the storm.

As expected, it was cold. And wet. If anyone saw them out here—and with their photographic luck, people were definitely watching—they’d think he was nuts. But that didn’t matter because his adorable, silly, crazy-as-hell wife dropped his hand and began dancing. Spinning in a circle, laughing at nothing, scrunching her nose and making a Mick Jagger face as she shimmied her shoulders and swirled those luscious hips.

It was mesmerizing.

“Dancing isn’t a spectator sport,” she called out, eyebrow lifted, twirling again. “Don’t tell me you don’t dance, music man. I ain’t buying it.”

Oh, he had some moves. Not great moves, mind you, but he could carry his own. So, with his sassy brunette watching and waiting, Tyler gave the quiet street a cursory glance, and then bopped his head.

“Niiice,” Sherry teased, throwing her head back in a laugh. “Watch out, Timberlake.”

Shaking his head, a smile twitching his lips, he added his feet. Pleasure filled her eyes as she followed his every step, so he also did a Michael Jackson moonwalk, completely with a crotch grab. That sent her into hysterics. And made him feel like a damn king.

Author Info:

Rachel Harris writes humorous love stories about sassy girls-next-door and the hot guys that make them swoon. Emotion, vibrant settings, and strong families are a staple in each of her books…and kissing. Lots of kissing.

A Cajun cowgirl now living in Houston, she firmly believes life’s problems can be solved with a hot, sugar-coated beignet or a thick slice of king cake, and that screaming at strangers for cheap, plastic beads is acceptable behavior in certain situations. She homeschools her two beautiful girls and watches way too much Food Network with her amazing husband.

An admitted Diet Mountain Dew addict, she gets through each day by laughing at herself, hugging her kids, and losing herself in story. She writes young adult, new adult, and adult romances, and LOVES talking with readers!

Wow. She had him. He was impressed, and a little turned on. He ground his teeth. He would agree to her plan, only because he had no choice. He was determined to find and nail the son of a bitch who had killed his uncle. “All right, fine,” he reluctantly said.

She might lose her job if she didn’t come back with her investigative story. But he would definitely lose his job if she exposed his undercover activities and his family’s private life on the news. So he would have to keep the nosy reporter under his thumb and under his control.

One way or another.
