Crash Into Love, Love at the Beach series, Sofia Grey

This morning we have a guest post from the lovely Sofia Grey as she shares a little inspiration from her newest, Crash Into Love … oh-so-tempting.  I can’t wait to meet Jonah.

*****

Promise – Sofia Grey

Can anything be more flattering to a woman’s ego than a young and handsome man flirting with her? Especially if she is lacking in confidence.

The lyrics of Promise (Slash ft Chris Cornell) sum up this feeling beautifully:

The first time I ever saw you

You had that far away look in your eyes

And heaven’s eyes shined down upon you

And the whole room filled up with light

http://youtu.be/NPaAlAL8Z50

In Crash Into Love, my heroine, Cass, is feeling a little bruised. Divorce looms, as does the deadline for her novel and she hides from the world to lick her wounds in private.

Romance is the last thing on her mind, even with the much younger Jonah, staying in the beachside cottage next door.

~

His breath whispered across my face. It sounded ragged. I wanted Jonah’s lips on mine more than anything, and I’d have sold my soul if that would have been the price; eternal damnation would have Jonah’s name on it. Kiss me. I tilted my head the merest fraction and leaned into him at the same time as he drew closer. I don’t know who made the first move, but our lips brushed each other’s, and Jonah groaned. One hand sank into my hair while the other pressed the small of my back, guiding me into the perfect position for him to take my mouth. It was a move so practiced, so possessive, I would normally take offense, but with this man, it felt right.

Cougar! My battered self-confidence screamed at me, but I ignored it. Just one kiss. I felt his tongue flick at my lips and follow the seam, and without hesitation, I opened to let him in. I still had my wineglass in one hand, and I held that awkward and loose around his shoulders while I moved to caress his cheek. I wanted to feel his delicious stubble. His lips were soft, but the kiss was hard and hungry. Dear God, I felt so much, so turned on, I imagined myself dissolving into a sticky puddle there on the deck.

He tasted of mint and wood smoke, and he smelled of the surf. He was summer in human form. Young and strong, his body radiated heat beneath his T-shirt, and I had to touch him. I shifted to slide my hand down his stomach, across impossibly firm muscles, round the side, and down his spine to the top of his jeans, where I burrowed under his shirt. I might never get the chance to do this again, and I shamelessly caressed his skin, feeling the muscles ripple beneath my touch.

*****

Crash Into LoveBlurb:

Cass thought spending a month at a beachside hideaway relaxing and collecting shells would be the perfect escape to finish her novel. When she meets the dark and brooding and much younger Jonah, who’s staying next door, her book becomes the last thing on her mind.

Jonah would rather stay home alone than go on vacation with his brother and their friends, but does his best to tolerate the situation after being convinced to go. But when he sees the beauty next door, he can’t avoid his attraction.

Together, they break all the rules, but will Cass be able to bring Jonah out of his shell forever, or will he leave her with only the crash of the surf to keep her company?

Author bio:

Romance author Sofia Grey spends her days managing projects in the corporate world and her nights hanging out with wolf shifters and alpha males. She devours pretty much anything in the fiction line, but she prefers her romances to be hot, and her heroes to have hidden depths. When writing, she enjoys peeling back the layers to expose her characters’ flaws and always makes them work hard for their happy endings.

Music is interwoven so tightly into my writing that I can’t untangle the two. Either I’m listening to a playlist on my iPod, have music seeping from my laptop speakers, or there’s a song playing in my head – sometimes on auto-repeat.

Interview – The Duke’s Quandry

Callie Hutton, Marriage Mart Mayhem series, The Duke's Quandry

Today I get to talk to the fabulous Callie Hutton as she answers a few questions about the joys of romances.  Then we’ll take a look at her newest, The Duke’s Quandry.

And make sure you check out her gorgeous giveaway too!

*****

What do you like best about writing (or reading) romances?

I love a happy ending. No matter how tough things get in a romance novel, you know at the very end the hero and heroine will come together. I also love writing about how the love grows between them. The initial attraction is always there, and in most stories they don’t want to act on it for one reason or another. It’s watching those walls break down that make for a satisfying story.

Do you prefer historical or contemporary romances?

I prefer historicals.  In times past there were so many rules to break, and it’s fun to write a story where the hero and heroine break those rules. In today’s world it seems as if anything goes, so to me, it’s not as thrilling as an historical. Plus I was a history major in college, so reading and writing historicals is a natural for me.

What is your favorite romantic story (movie/book. fact/fiction)?

There are so many, I really couldn’t pick just one. I have loved tons of movies and books. I guess the most romantic story I’ve ever heard was when King-Emperor Edward VIII of England abdicated his throne to marry the woman he loved.

If you could be any romantic heroine, who would you be?

Christine in Phantom of the Opera.

Which of your characters/books was the most fun to write?

My most fun book to write was A Wife By Christmas. There was a lot of humor and funny scenes in that book.

What is your favorite part of The Duke’s Quandry?

Well, the ending, but I won’t give it away. So next to that I would have to say just about every time Drake and Penelope got together. She was always getting herself (and him) into trouble.

What is the one thing you wished your readers knew about your life as a writer?

That I love it, and would never want to do anything else. There are scores of stories rolling around in my head yet to be written.

London 1814…

Drake, Duke of Manchester is searching the Marriage Mart for a perfect bride. He wants a woman who is poised, sophisticated, and worthy of the title Duchess. But most of all, he wants a woman who does not want the useless emotion of love.

Socially awkward Miss Penelope Clayton isn’t meant for marriage. A serious botanist, she has no desire to wed, so being forced by her guardian to participate in the Season to find a husband is torture. She’ll never fit in with the ton, especially if they discover she’s been pretending to be a man within the scientific community.

As Drake’s family makes over Penelope, turning her from naive bluestocking to enchanting debutante, he is put upon to introduce her to society and eligible bachelors. Despite dance lessons and new gowns, Penelope is the opposite of poised and sophisticated as she stumbles from one mishap to the next. Why then, does he find it so hard to resist her?

CallieAuthor Info:

Callie Hutton always knew those stories she made up in her head would be written down one day. There was nowhere else for them to go. After years of writing articles and interviews for magazines and company newsletters, she decided to tackle writing a book. That was back in 2010. Now with twelve books under her belt, and seven more contracted, the relief at having somewhere to tell those stories is wonderful. She lives in Oklahoma with her husband, adult children and three dogs.

Author Info:

I always knew I wanted to be a writer and in grade five, I penned my first story, bound it (with staples) and a cardboard cover and did all the illustrations myself (if you’ve ever seen my drawings you’ll know how horrible they must have been. I still draw stick figures). Luckily, this book will never see the light of day again.

In high school I fell in love with historical romance and then contemporary romance. After graduating University with an English Literature degree, I married my own hero, pursued a degree in Interior Design and then opened my own business.

After the birth of our first child, I knew it was time to fulfill the dream of writing romantic fiction. I’m a hopeless romantic who is living my dream, penning happily-ever-after’s for my characters in between managing kids and the family business. Writing on a laptop in the middle of the country in a rambling old Victorian house would be ideal, but I’m quite content living in suburbia with my husband, our two young children, and very bad cat.

Book Review – Behind the Scenes

Behind the Scenes, Trish Jensen

cover38260-mediumTogether they might produce a hit TV show. If they don’t kill each other while falling in love.

Tanya Pierce’s TV-executive uncle has tapped her to host a reality show about beauty makeovers. Tanya runs an acclaimed beauty spa in a small California town—definitely outside the Hollywood spotlight, just the way publicity-shy Tanya likes it. Her partner will be AJ Landry, a sexy producer known for creating hit programs—and for distrusting women, like his ex-wife, who are looking for a meal ticket to television fame and fortune.

When Tanya and AJ meet, sparks fly. Get ready for a rollicking story filled with humor, wit, and dizzying romance.

I so want to be Tanya when I grow up! She’s sassy and smart, with a sweet big ol’ heart. I love her with AJ as she gets him to remember his faith in people and his enjoyment of life. The fantastically fun banter between the two made me laugh (a lot) and I absolutely loved watching them fall head over heels.

A little jaded, AJ can’t resist Tanya’s charm for long. At his heart, he’s a good guy but living in Hollywood (and his past) hasn’t exactly given him reason to trust in the goodness of people. But time with Tanya quickly changes things for him, which is a hoot to watch. And the rest of the crew is just as much fun as they fall under her spell too.

I was just a touch confused at the end because I’m not sure I quite understand why AJ reacted the way he did, but I love how Tanya handles it. There is also a surprise she puts together for AJ that I wish we’d seen more of the lead up to, but I quickly got over that as I thoroughly enjoyed them working toward their Happy Ever After ending. It was sweet and funny and tender but full of Tanya’s trademark sass.

A light-hearted story, Behind the Scenes is an amusing and fast read, with realistic interactions between its adorable characters and a straight-forward, entertaining story-line. It’s the perfect choice for romance readers who love a good rom-com and that squishy happy ending feeling.

Book Review – Secrets of a Gentleman Escort

Book Review, Bronwyn Scott, Rakes Who Make Husbands Jealous series, Secrets of a Gentleman Escort

cover37296-mediumHe’s the talk of the ton—for all the wrong reasons!

Society’s most outrageous—and popular!—escort Nicholas D’Arcy is renowned for his utmost discretion. So when he suddenly finds himself named and shamed by a jealous husband, he reluctantly accepts a summons to the countryside…a fate worse than death!

Annorah Price-Ellis isn’t what Nick is used to—innocent, feisty and decidedly uncomfortable with the spontaneous heat between them! Suddenly, London’s most audacious lover is out of his depth, and in danger of revealing the real man behind the polished facade…

Rakes Who Make Husbands Jealous Only London’s best lovers need apply!

This isn’t the first time I’ve read a historical book about a male escort (I’m not sure why the sudden popularity or if they were always this plentiful and I just didn’t notice) and I think that it holds up pretty well.  Nick has his reasons for doing what he does and Scott does a great job of making him complicated and compelling.  I anxiously turned pages trying to get to the bottom of why he is the man he is and whether he can let things go to grab his change at a happy ever after.

I really loved him with Annorah and was rooting for them from their first meeting.  It’s interesting to have a hero be so overt in his motivation for the things he says and does – usually they either aren’t as aware or they don’t acknowledge their end game but as a professional escort Nick is more up front about his seductive tricks.  It’s actually quite fascinating to read about his thought process.  He’s charming, sexy and witty … and plots every move he makes to come across that way.

It’s not going to be for everyone – I don’t know why we are OK with our heroes being rakes but as soon as they start taking money for it they are a turn-off – but I highly recommend it.  It’s the first of a series and I’m intrigued by the idea of finding out more about the other men in the League of Discreet Gentlemen.

Annie Seaton, Hot Rock

Today I get to welcome Annie Seaton as she shares with us a little about what it was like to write her newest book, Hot Rock.

*****

I loved writing Hot Rock. David was such a boorish hero to start with and I loved seeing him fall in love and develop into a romantic hero who would do anything to get his woman.

As Davy began to fall in love with Megan, he fought it and tried to cover it up with crass behavior to turn her away… but it didn’t work. She kept overlooking his behavior despite her best intentions to avoid him.

Writing the scenes where the spark and the attraction built between them was fun, but I really enjoyed balancing this with dreamy romance. This is the most romantic book I have written yet one of the steamiest too!

The song which follows Megan through time, and is the vehicle for Davy to look for her, still gives me a shiver.

Davy’s love and yearning for Megan is demonstrated in the words, which were to follow her through time.

‘Come back to me, Megan.

Together we will conquer time.’

Come back to me, I can’t find you.

I need you, I love you.’

I loved writing the romance into this story and I hope my readers enjoy it too.

Laurie Kellogg, No Exchanges No Returns, Return to Redemption series

cover39813-mediumThere were never such devoted sisters…

Dr. David Lambert and his wife, Brianna, received the ultimate Christmas gift from her fraternal twin. They gratefully accepted it, of course, because everyone knows you can’t return a baby like an itchy sweater. Yet, that’s essentially what Brianna does when she has a meltdown and unexpectedly divorces David. She runs from their home in Redemption, Pennsylvania, and leaves their surrogate—her sister, Casey—pregnant with his little bundle.

When David chose her beautiful twin over her, Casey McIntyre hid her hurt behind a wall of sarcasm. Now that her sister has divorced her husband, it’s increasingly difficult to remember why the hunky pediatrician is supposed to be off limits—especially since Brianna doesn’t seem to want him or care if Casey and he get involved.

David always liked and admired his selfless ex-sister-in-law—despite that the sassy preschool teacher is always busting his chops. Consequently, after his wife bails on marriage and motherhood, it’s only natural he turns to Casey for sympathy. Unfortunately, the exasperating pixie becomes more irresistible with each day she carries his child. He already mistook lust for love once and jumped way too fast into marriage. He’s not about to botch up his life that way again.

Casey wants whatever happiness she can grab, whether it’s temporary or not. The only problem is, if she lets herself love her baby (or David), what will happen to her when her sister inevitably realizes her mistake and returns to Redemption?

There is so much going on here, I don’t even know where to start. Well, the obvious place is the fact that there are two sisters fall for the same man. I’m an only child so I don’t know how I would react in such a situation … or how I would feel about sleeping with her ex. There are so many possible problems that could come up, but I think that Kellogg handles it very well. I still got a little icked out but that was going to happen regardless. She delivers Casey and David’s growing feelings with care and heart, making it a very believable transition.

Of course, this book has so much else going on but it’s delivered in a way that doesn’t feel crowded or rushed. As a very minor side story we have Casey’s friend, Andy, and David’s friend, Paul (who is also Casey’s doctor). Andy was burned by her ex and isn’t sure she can trust Paul but it’s fun to watch the two together. As a much more major side story, there are Brianna’s reasons for leaving and coming back. It’s a pretty big spoiler, one I didn’t really expect, so I won’t go into details in case you don’t already know. But it is a biggie and brings forward a lot of complications for not only her and Casey but also for David.

Then of course you have Casey and David themselves. Not only do they have to deal with Brianna leaving, but Casey is pregnant. Surrogacy has so many inherent complications but throwing in a divorce just makes it worse. And as their feelings grow, Casey has to wonder does David want her or just the baby. It’s a complete muddle but one handled quite well by Kellogg. By the time the book was over, I was rocking the new dynamics in the family. I think that it takes some very deft writing to make it all work so well.

And through it all you have some serious issues of family – resentment between siblings and parents, selfishness and selflessness, love, forgiveness and truth. There are some pretty complex things swirling beneath the surface not only between Casey and Brianna or the twins and David, but also between all three of them and their parents. Some soul searching and a few hard truths that needed to be said bring to light some heavy things that have been wearing them all down for a long time. But with love and caring, everything gets set to rights.

No Exchanges, No Returns is a complex new spin on The Gift of the Magi. One that made me laugh but also had me tearing up. It’s wonderfully compelling to get to know this complicated group and work through all of the intricacies needed to get them all to a happy ending.

(This is Book 4 in Kellogg’s “Return to Redemption” series but it can definitely stand alone. There are a couple of characters that I looked up and realized that they were in previous books, but they were just passing through with small hints on their stories. I don’t think there is anything that would impact your enjoyment of this one if you picked it up first.)
